Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00Notes On A Conditional Form (Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics, Clear Vinyl)
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Following 2018's A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, The 1975's much-anticipated fourth studio effort, Notes on a Conditional Form is the second of two albums from the British band's third release cycle, Music for Cars. Over the past six months, the band has dropped a selection of sonically-diverse singles from Notes on a Conditional Form. Released in July of 2019, "The 1975" features a spoken-word recording from Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg, underscored by instrumentals. On the heels of "The 1975" came the punchy, punk-infused "People," while "Frail State Of Mind," which frontman Matty Healy described as a song about anxiety, followed in October. The two most recent singles off the album included the shoegazey "Me & You Together Song," and the twangy, "The Birthday Party."
"Every time I do a 1975 record, I kind of just go through my catalogue of music, the mental rolodex," says Healy. "And I think that Notes is an interesting record, because it has our most aggressive moments and our most tranquil moments, and they're quite harshly lined up against each other. I don't have a playlist of one type of music, so I don't consume music like that, and when I'm inspired it'll never happen twice in one genre."
On Notes On A Conditional Form, the band's family has grown to encompass new collaborators too, including actor Timothy Healy, Matty's father. "Don't Worry" was written by Healy senior when Matty was 11 and was dusted down and recorded by the band for NOACF. Elsewhere, FKA twigs and Phoebe Bridgers lend their vocals as backing textures and a duet from the latter. "It became such a personal record that there were no rules anymore," adds Healy. "Anybody who had breached the intimacy of the studio was inherently part of the record already. With Phoebe, I just felt like I hadn't loved a female vocal like hers in like a decade – I was obsessed with her record."

The White Tape (Silver/White Splatter)
Regular price $24.00 Save $-24.00Soon after forming the band, Phish (aka The White Tape) was created from four-track recordings which the band and band members mixed, dubbed and circulated as a demo. It consists of an assortment of four-track recordings from 1984-1985 including four songs recorded by all the existing members of Phish as a band: "Alumni Blues," "AC/DC Bag," "Slave To The Traffic Light" and "Dog Gone Dog" (aka "Dog Log"). The balance was recorded separately by the band members and blended together from 4-track cassettes to create the album as we know it.
The White Tape highlights Phish's early development with ethereal soundscapes and interesting sketches on classics-to-be such as an acoustic "The Divided Sky" as it existed then and even an acapella rendering of "You Enjoy Myself." In 1998, The White Tape was re-mastered from the 2-track cassette master. The original art for the cassette demo was created by Trey himself and was updated for the CD release by artist Jim Pollock. A snapshot in time, The White Tape is a must-have for any fan and a perfect introduction to the band's studio work. New colored LP edition remastered from its original analog cassette master for vinyl.
"The White Tape is to me almost like if you combine all of the good pieces of all of our albums. The creative freedom of that first White Album, the playfulness of Junta, the sound quality of Hoist and the conciseness of Hoist..." - Trey Anastasio, Addicted to Noise
Nighthawks At The Diner (remastered)
Regular price $32.00 Save $-32.00After signing with Asylum Records in the early 1970s, Tom Waits recorded a series of acclaimed albums whose noir tales about the after-midnight underworld transformed the seedy into the sublime in songs laced with both dark humor and profound longing. Decades and several musical evolutions later, Waits' Asylum years still hold a special place in the hearts of many fans. Waits' first seven albums on Asylum have been remastered and will be re-released via Anti-Records.
Produced by Bones Howe and recorded in front of a live audience at the Record Plant recording studio in Los Angeles, CA in 1975, Nighthawks at the Diner debuts some of Tom Waits' greatest classics like "Warm Beer, Cold Women" and "Eggs and Sausage" with a crack jazz ensemble - Pete Christlieb (tenor saxophone), Bill Goodwin (drums), Jim Hughart (upright bass) and Mike Melvoin (piano, guitar) - backing him up and some of the greatest stage banter ever committed to record.

Natural Born Killers (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Explicit Content)
Regular price $31.00 Save $-31.00Natural Born Killers (A Soundtrack For An Oliver Stone Film) - Various Artists on 2LP
A hallucinatory satire on America's culture of violence and the tabloid media's encouragement of that culture for its own benefit, Oliver Stone's controversial 1994 film Natural Born Killers tells the story of two mass murderers who become cult heroes. Their fame is the result of exploitation by an amoral television tabloid talk-show journalist played by Robert Downey, Jr. The film mixes video, documentary film techniques, animation and rear-projection images to involve the viewer in both the action and the interior world of killers Mickey (Woody Harrelson) and Mallory Knox (Juliette Lewis).
Long before he composed Oscar and Grammy award winning scores for the likes of David Fincher's The Social Network, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, Trent Reznor produced the soundtrack to Natural Born Killers. In addition to songs written especially for the film like "Burn," the sprawling 27-track affair also includes the two NIN cuts "Something I Can Never Have" and "A Warm Place," plus material from a diverse array of artists like Leonard Cohen, L7, Cowboy Junkies, Bob Dylan, Duane Eddy, Patsy Cline, Dr. Dre and Tha Dogg Pound.
On his approach to compiling the soundtrack, Reznor told MTV: "I suggested to Oliver [Stone] to try to turn the soundtrack into a collage-of-sound, kind of the way the movie used music: make edits, add dialog, and make it something interesting, rather than a bunch of previously released music."
Continuing with its soundtrack reissue campaign UMe will be reissuing this title back on vinyl for the first time in years!

Expensive Shit
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.002014 vinyl LP pressing of the Afrobeat star's 1975 album. Nigerian police, seeking to put down this independent-minded rascal, tried to plant a joint on Kuti during a gathering at his home. Wise to their plan, he quickly swallowed the joint, but the police then threw him in jail to produce the evidence from his feces. He escaped charges with some wily plotting, and then produced this song mocking the police for wasting resources on hassling him instead of furthering justice in Nigeria. Opening brass rounds give way to interplay between Fela's narration about the episode and responses from his group of female singers.

"Marvel Studios' Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director," Kendrick Lamar said. "The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. Eggnog (Colored Vinyl, Green)
Regular price $22.00 Save $-22.00*BACK IN PRINT ON TRANSLUCENT GREEN VINYL!!! Originally released as a 10-inch in 1991, Eggnog is a wild ride into the outer limits of Melvins-dom. The first side cuts loose with three quick blasts. "Wispy" has the Lorax (Lori Temple Black) on bass and Dale Crover on drums, pounding one note in unison while Buzz Osborne bellows and whispers and turns his guitar on and off. "Antitoxidote" is a rabid horse galloping off into the desert, with yet more stops and starts and feedback detonations. "Hog Leg" sounds like a syphillitic Jimmy Swaggert trying to mimic Dio while being backed by a drunken ZZ Top cover band. Side Two features the side-long epic "Charmicarmicat," with seasick waves of guitar and slow-motion madness bringing communicable disease and poisonous jellyfish ashore, stinging and infecting the unsuspecting sunbathers before gently washing out to sea again.

The Latin Bit (Blue Note Tone Poet Series)
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00Grant Green had already recorded a prolific 10 sessions of classic hard bop and soul jazz for Blue Note over a 2-year span by the time he arrived at Van Gelder Studio in 1962 to record his album The Latin Bit. The concept of the album was a departure for Green with the guitarist exploring Latin and Brazilian influences with a band featuring Johnny Acea on piano, Wendell Marshall on bass, Willie Bobo on drums, Carlos "Patato" Valdes on conga, and Garvin Masseaux on chekere. As Nat Hentoff wrote in the album's liner notes: "It is because of Green's remarkably consistent ease in many varieties of material, that this album of jazz with a Latin tinge becomes so seamless a blending of Latin idioms and blues-laced, modern mainstream swinging." The highly enjoyable set includes joyful takes of "Mambo Inn" and "My Little Suede Shoes," as well as a lyrical and beguiling version of "Besame Mucho."
Blue Note Records' acclaimed Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series continues in 2022. Launched in 2019 in honor of the label's 80th Anniversary, the Tone Poet series is produced by Joe Harley (from Music Matters) and features all-analog, 180g audiophile vinyl reissues that are mastered from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray of Cohearent Audio. Tone Poet vinyl is manufactured at RTI in Camarillo, CA, and packaged in deluxe Stoughton Printing "Old Style" gatefold Tip-On jackets. The titles were once again handpicked by Harley and cover the crème de la crème of the Blue Note catalog along with underrated classics, modern era standouts, and albums from other labels under the Blue Note umbrella including Pacific Jazz and United Artists Records. Every aspect of these Blue Note/Tone Poet releases is done to the highest-possible standard. It means that you will never find a superior version.
"The LPs are mastered directly from the original analog master tapes by Kevin at his incredible facility called Cohearent Mastering. We go about it in the exact same way that we did for so many years for the Music Matters Blue Note reissues. We do not roll off the low end, boost the top or do any limiting of any kind. We allow the full glory of the original Blue Note masters to come though unimpeded! Short of having an actual time machine, this is as close as you can get to going back and being a fly on the wall for an original Blue Note recording session."
