10th Anniversary Remastered 180g Vinyl 2LP Edition

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is a musical ensemble founded circa 2007 in Los Angeles, California by singer/songwriter Alex Ebert. Disillusionment with his major label experience with Ima Robot drove Ebert to maintain a DIY recording ethos for his next project. In 2009 the troupe issued their Laurel Canyon-inspired rag-tag debut album, Up From Below, a pioneering release in the folk-pop revival movement which offered up a unique mixture of folk and soul with flourishes of film composer Ennio Morricone's grandeur. The album yielded the majestic hit "Home" as well as sweeping fan favorites "40 Day Dream" and "Janglin." In August 2019 the group will perform a headlining show at Los Angeles' Greek Theater in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their breakthrough LP. The show also serves as album release party for a remastered version of Up From Below, presented here on double 180g vinyl LP.

Over the course of a more than 40-year career, Steve Vai has routinely transformed what would appear to be outrageously impossible into something very, very possible... and still also pretty outrageous. From his days as Frank Zappa's "stunt guitar" player to his more recent expansive and exploratory solo work, Vai has continually challenged notions of traditional guitar playing and composition - and on more than one occasion even reimagined the very instrument itself. Which, he'll admit, is not necessarily his intention. "I don't sit around and say, 'Okay, what can I do now that pushes the boundaries?," Vai explains about his approach to the guitar. "What I do say to myself is, 'Okay, Vai - what are you going to do now that's going to interest you, that's going to fascinate you, and that's different than anything you've done before?" The answer to that question comes in the form of Vai's newest and 10th solo album, Inviolate, a nine-song opus that does indeed push the boundaries of instrumental guitar music - this time out, Vai quite literally invented not just a new guitar, but also a new guitar-playing technique. "An inviolate inspiration is one that comes to you completely pure," Vai explains. "It appears almost in it's completeness, and there's a recognition of it as being right for you - perfectly right for you. There's no excuses in it. There's no fantasy in it. There's just a recognition of 'yes.' And then you capture that in a way that's authentic to your unique creativity. Hopefully, that's what I've done with this record."

In 1992, The Residents pondered their 20th Anniversary. A best-of collection had been proposed, and the group gathered together to draw up a potential tracklist. All was well until one of the Eyeballed Entities, unconsciously expressing something none of them had been able to verbalize, threw up on that tracklist.

Once the dust had settled, somewhere in there, amongst the resulting soggy mess of vomit, paper and ink, The Residents noticed the proposed best-of song titles had congealed into a collage of new, never before heard tunes. 'Kick A Cat' and 'Picnic In The Jungle' had become 'Kick A Picnic', whilst 'Amber' and 'Six Things To A Cycle' had become 'Six Amber Things'. You get the idea.

This was it! Inspired by the rather repulsive mess that sat before them, the group chose to take the entire episode as a sign and began recording collages of select tracks from their back catalogue as instructed by those soggy scraps. What better way to celebrate twenty long dreary years of obscure stardom and sacrifice a few of their own sacred cows at the same time?!

Never before released on vinyl, and with their 50th Anniversary in mind in 2023, The Residents now present 'Our Finest Flowers' for your consideration again. The classic 1992 20th Anniversary album, which saw The Residents rework lyrics, melodies and themes from their entire back catalog into an album of new tracks, on vinyl for the first time.
