Regarding the album's release, vocalist Brandon Flowers noted, "This record feels like a great way to clean everything up and move onto the next thing." According to vocalist Brandon Flowers, Direct Hits was originally entitled Cream. He notes, "The initial idea, which maybe was better, was Cream. It was my idea. It was a play on the fact that we put out a B-sides compilation called Sawdust. And so it made sense to call the ones that were our best Cream."

Imploding the Mirage
Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00Imploding the Mirage is The Killers highly anticipated sixth studio album. Following-up 2017's Wonderful, Wonderful, the new LP was produced by the band in conjunction with Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado of Foxygen and recorded in Los Angeles, CA and Park City, UT. It's the first album of their career to be created outside of their hometown of Las Vegas, NV. The Killers describe Imploding The Mirage as "the light after the dark; the overcoming of sadness and moving into celebration. It's a record about eternal love, perseverance through hard times, and the strength gained from friendships and familial bonds whilst weathering a storm."
In an interview with Q magazine, frontman Brandon Flowers said that the sound of the album, "Somehow captures Manchester and Bruce Springsteen. I think that's when we're at our best, when we're able to take these different elements and make them work." Lead single, "Caution" features former Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham and finds Flowers singing "I'm throwing caution" over soaring synths and reverb-heavy drums. On the quirky, funky fellow track, "Fire in Bone" Flowers lists off things that feel ‘Fire in Bone': from feeling "empty," "wrung-out," "unseen" and "preyed upon," to feeling "big time" and "major league." It hones in on the need to appreciate those that are there to pick up the pieces, which seems particularly crucial in these times.
Imploding The Mirage also features a brilliant array of collaborators, another first for the band who have typically kept guest spots on their albums to a minimum. The list of featured artists includes Lindsey Buckingham, k.d. lang, Weyes Blood, Adam Granduciel (War On Drugs), Blake Mills, and Lucius.

Sam's Town
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Very much a 20th century band, The Killers have turned their initial obsession with British alternative pop, indie rock and lo-fi into a huge, stadium-filling sound that manages to retain integrity while appealing to the mainstream. In that happy place they've released four studio albums that have sold an estimated 22 million copies worldwide (all four topping the UK charts) and matched the long form discs' Platinum status with massive hit singles.
Following up an album that sold over six million copies in the UK, Europe and the US alone could have been daunting but the Killers were on such a roll that Sam's Town (2006) took them even further. Flowers' distinctive lyrics and voice and his increasing piano and electric keyboards skills added new depth to a disc recorded in Nevada and London with co-producers Alan Moulder and Flood keeping the sound razor contemporary.
Since it was obvious by now that the band was already established, and wearing the trappings of stardom well, they could have taken a critical backlash. They didn't because the lead single "When You Were Young" expanded their sonic ambition with a heartland sweep that nodded to Bruce Springsteen's first two albums and topped the US Alternative Songs chart (it made #2 in the UK). While the lovely "For Reasons Unknown" slipped through the net it is another standout cut. The same applies to "Read My Mind," a piece that Brandon still considers to be amongst his very best.
