This is the fourth Beak studio album, imaginatively titled . At it's core we always wanted it to be head music - listened to as an album, not as individual songs. This is why we are releasing this album with no singles or promo tracks. The recording and writing initially began in a house called Pen y Bryn in Talsarnau, Wales in the fallout from the weirdness of the COVID days. Remote and with only ourselves and the view of Portmeirion in the distance, we got to work. With the opening track, "Strawberry Line" (our tribute to our dear furry friend Alfie Barrow, who appears on the albums cover) as the metronomic guide for the album, we then resumed recording, as before, at Invada studios in Bristol, whilst still touring around Europe and North/South America. After playing hundreds of gigs and festivals over the years we felt that touring had started to influence our writing to the point we weren't sure who we were anymore. So we decided to go back to the origins of where we were at on our first album - with zero expectations and just playing together in a room. Hopefully we have achieved this.

Rashied Ali stood as a magnetic force for the musical environment around him. In his last decades, he sponsored rehearsal opportunities for young musicians, tightened up a neighborhood street-corner drum circles he happened to pass, and for years pulled promising young talents into his orbit. One unique group that Ali led at the 2002 Vision Festival with Frank Lowe he also took into studio-and that moment you hear on Sidewalks in Motion. This set features Ali and Lowe along with young musicians Jumaane Smith, Andrew Bemkey, and Joris Teepe. Ali edited and prepped for release by in the years after Lowe's death-but it was frozen on the runway at the time of Rashied's own untimely passing. The reborn Survival is honored to reanimate these sounds in 2025. Survival Records SR-553 is a single LP in an old-school tip-on jacket featuring photos and recollections from bassist Teepe. From 1972 until his death in 2009, Rashied Ali operated Survival Records as the primary record label for his work as a leader and other projects. Through that time, Ali documented every phase of his career as a musician.  Under the custodianship of the Ali family, Survival Records was revived in 2019 as a platform for improved, definitive reissues of the original LP releases as well as additional, hitherto unreleased performances from Ali's archive.  Survival releases have been optimized through the practices of Grammy-nominated veteran mastering engineer Joe Lizzi, the musical acuity of drummer George Schuller, and historical input from researcher Ben Young-overseen by the Estate of Rashied Ali.

Joan Shelley has been quiet since the release of her 2022 album The Spur, a career highpoint and her fifth full-length album over an incredibly fertile and busy eight-year period. She with the "Mood Ring" EP, her first new music in almost three years. The full set of 5 songs bookends a period of immense personal change for Shelley: the birth of her daughter, and moving from the place where she was raised in rural Kentucky. She finished mixing these songs at Louisville studio End of an Ear with the U-Haul parked and waiting, and listened to the mixes on the drive to her new home. This 1-sided 12" is limited to 1,000 copies worldwide. Pressed on clear vinyl with a side-B etching.

Double vinyl LP pressing. Originally issued in January 2005, 'The Secret Migration' was the sixth album by Mercury Rev. In the UK, where the band were signed to V2, the album spawned two singles, 'In A Funny Way' and 'Across Yer Ocean'. Back in 2020, Cherry Red unveiled a deluxe 5CD edition of this sometimes overlooked album, compiled and co-ordinated in conjunction with Mercury Rev's twin lynchpins, Jonathan Donaghue and Sean 'Grasshopper' Mackowiak. Four years on, 'The Secret Migration' is treated to it's first-ever reissue on vinyl - and with the added bonus of a second disc. Joining the original album are various B-sides and originally unissued out-takes. Among the bonus are cover versions of Bobby Charles' Bearsville gem 'Tennessee Blues'; 'Afraid', originally by Chicago rock band Dovetail Joint; two Paul Westerberg songs, The Replacements' 'Androgynous' and his solo effort 'Good Day'; Daniel Johnston's 'Blue Clouds'; and 'I Never Had It So Good' by Paul Williams. Formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1989, MERCURY REV quick grew to become leading figures in left field alternative rock. Earlier albums veered towards experimental, off-kilter psychedelia but by the end of the decade, the band had developed their own brand of serene, piano-based Americana with the acclaimed, best-selling LP 'Deserter's Songs' (1998). Mercury Rev are currently active with forthcoming shows over the coming months around a brand new studio album.

In 1991, four kids from the suburbs of Chicago, IL formed Cap'n Jazz, arguably one of the most influential rock bands of the last 30 years. Those kids, brothers Tim & Mike Kinsella, Victor Villarreal, and Sam Zurick, were joined by Davey von Bohlen in 1994 and recorded their only full-length album before calling it quits - Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped on, and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over - often referred to as Shmap'n Shmazz. Originally released on the Man With Gun label, the album quickly fell out of print after the band's breakup, with the songs eventually making their way to the Analphabetapolothology compilation, released in 1998 via Jade Tree Records. As a testament to this legendary debut, Polyvinyl is thrilled to announce the vinyl reissue of Shmap'n Shmazz, which has been remastered from the original tapes - restoring the original album on vinyl for the first time since 1995, including it's original artwork. With the unmatched intensity heard in the opening track, "Little League," coupled with eccentrically poetic lyrics, this iconic album has influenced countless artists since it's release and unintentionally sparked a new genre. Pitchfork calls the album "a touchstone of Midwestern emo," while Vulture placed "Little League" at #3 on their 100 Greatest Emo Songs of All Time list. Musician Devendra Banhart has also expressed his love for the band in a 2017 Joan of Arc documentary, describing Tim's powerfully striking vocals like "going to the zoo on quaaludes, but all the other animals are on speed." In addition to the band's influential legacy, Cap'n Jazz was the catalyst to the formation of other notable bands featuring the original members, including American Football, Joan of Arc, The Promise Ring, Owls, Owen, Make Believe, Ghosts and Vodka and many more.

Anxious' second album Bambi arrives this winter on Run For Cover Records. It's been a whirlwind few years for the Fairfield, Connecticut five-piece - since the release of their debut album Little Green House, there's been little time for anything other than consistent touring with bands like Bayside, Drug Church and The Wonder Years. Somewhere during that endless grind, vocalist Grady Allen was sitting in a hotel room and stumbled upon a name typed into a long-forgotten memo on his phone: Bambi. "We should have named the band Bambi," he recalls admitting to his bandmates. Bambi stuck with the band after that night and eventually it evolved from a "what-if" into the name of Anxious' second full-length album. Bambi is a record of remarkable growth, depth, ambition, and energy. It takes all the unsolvable and unavoidable problems of exiting adolescence and makes them resonate in urgent and authentic new ways. The album has deep roots in the storied lineage of Northeast tri-state hardcore and emo, but it also fully embraces the widescreen alternative rock songwriting at which Anxious have previously only hinted. It's a statement of purpose, the kind of album that comes from a band reconciling where they've been with where they want to go. Bambi is the sound of Anxious putting everything on the line-and coming out on the other side better than ever. Inspired by "big swing" records like Blink-182's self-titled or Jimmy Eat World's Clarity, Anxious set out to redefine the band without losing sight of what made them work in the first place. Double vinyl LP pressing. 2025 release. Lefty is a cross-genre double-album from critically acclaimed indie band Penny & Sparrow. Of the album, they said, "We wanted to record a double album for the challenge of it, and also for the chance to be sonically rangy and eccentric. The idea of offering all sorts of sounds, structures, melodies, and lyrical approaches in 20 songs was creatively exciting to us, so we did it. Lefty is a long collection of both real and made up things. We wrote poetry, true stories, literary fan fiction, horror, erotica, slice-of-life vignettes, dream scenarios, saloon conversations, elegies, a toast, a few confessions and at least two love letters. All of them belong together because each one is an extension of us, of the things we love. We are the ties that bind Lefty. "

Rufus Wainwright's Dream Requiem is an extremely prestigious project, the result of a commission from major cultural institutions in the US, UK, and Europe. This world premiere recording features a new composition by the legendary, Grammy-nominated musician, who has collaborated with the who's who of the pop music world. With narration by Meryl Streep, the project will be followed by a worldwide tour starting in January 2025. Written during the pandemic, it's a requiem "for the people we have lost in this crisis, for the past from which we are cut off and for the future to which we do not yet know how to connect, a Requiem for human contact, solidarity and the human voice that have all become dangerous and contagious"; It's also a reflection on environmental collapse and the increase in the number of natural disasters. The text of Dream Requiem weaves together words from the Latin Mass for the Dead - as used by his hero Verdi - with Lord Byron's apocalyptic poem 'Darkness', written after the volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora in 1815 and which brought about "the year without summer".
