Transparent Green Vinyl. Minecraft - Volume Alpha is the work of German composer and musician Daniel Rosenfeld. Using C418 as his moniker, Rosenfeld crafted the sweeping soundtrack and vibrant sound design which helped breathe life into Minecraft's voxel-based universe. Fans and critics were universally enamored with his beatless, nuanced electronic pieces upon release. Popular gaming site Kotaku named it among The Best Game Music of 2011, calling the music "remarkably soothing," and The Guardian has compared Rosenfeld's delicate piano and sparse ambient motifs to legendary artists Erik Satie and Brian Eno. In an interview feature with C418, Polygon distilled Volume Alpha to its essence: "It's not bound by the retro aesthetic of Minecraft's graphics. It transcends them. The album is an attempt to uplift the combined game/music experience into the sublime."

In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. Dirty Dancing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - Various Artists on LP

A cornerstone of '80s pop culture, Dirty Dancing (1987) reflected back on the early-'60s culture of summer vacation life at a resort in New York's Catskill Mountains. With its heavenly mix of generation gap melodrama, well-programmed rock, R&B, Latin and pre-disco music, coming-of-age sexuality among its teens, and of course plenty of laughs and "dirty dancing," the movie has stood the test of time over the last three decades.

The Dirty Dancing soundtrack album soared on the wings of the original chart hits "Hungry Eyes" (Billboard Hot 100 #4); "She's Like the Wind" (Hot 100 #3); and the Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe Award-winning "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" (Hot 100 #1). Those three songs were among the six new originals produced for the soundtrack album, which spent 96 weeks on the Billboard 200 albums chart spanning 1987-'88-'89, including 18 weeks at #1.

The soundtrack also included five well-chosen pop classics that were featured in the movie. Those five hits, all dating from the 1950s and '60s, are: "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes (Hot 100 #2, 1963); "Stay" by Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs, "Hey Baby" by Bruce Channel, "Love Is Strange by Mickey & Sylvia and "In The Still Of The Night" by the Five Satins.

Limited four vinyl LP set. The original Broadway cast album of Hamilton, a fusion of hip-hop and pop-driven musical theater, is now available from Atlantic Records. Cast members from the blockbuster new musical Hamilton, which recently opened to widespread critical acclaim at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, began recording their parts for this release in August of 2015. This album was produced by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson and Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter, founding members of the Grammy-winning hip-hop band, The Roots. Hamilton is a musical about Alexander Hamilton, with music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show was inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, by historian Ron Chernow.

Quentin Tarantino's all-time classic Oscar nominated 1994 film Pulp Fiction features an equally as impressive soundtrack that includes famous dialogue from the movie by the likes of John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman and Bruce Willis along with iconic musical selections from none other than Chuck Berry, Maria McKee, Al Green, The Statler Brothers, Kool & The Gang, Ricky Nelson, Dusty Springfield, Dick Dale, Peter Green and Urge Overkill. Continuing to exploit their creative urges to their ends, multi-platinum electronic duo Daft Punk (Guy-Manuel de Homen-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) took on one of their most ambitious projects to date in 2008, when they agreed to score the modern remake of the hugely influential 1982 film, Tron. Daft Punk's reverence of the original film and the themes that define it (the evolving relationship between humans and technology, specifically) rendered them discontented working within the means of their own studio. "We knew from the start that there was no way we were going to do this film score with two synthesizers and a drum machine," stated Guy-Manuel. Enlisting a 100-piece orchestra, they emerged from the studio after two years with a work whose importance superseded the editing process of the actual film - the movie was cut to the score, atypically. Tron: Legacy peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was certified gold shortly thereafter. 180g vinyl 2LP-set housed in a gatefold jacket with glow-in-the-dark lettering.

It's just five notes plucked out on a piano, so sparsely arranged that it feels like barely more than a sketch, so simple that an untrained player can easily pick it up, but it's one of cinema's greatest musical accomplishments. By now, John Carpenter's hypnotic theme to his 1978 horror masterpiece Halloween has embodied slasher-stalker anxiety for generations of filmgoers, and woven itself so into pop culture that it's become musical shorthand for the entire horror genre. And like the seemingly unkillable Michael Meyers, it's back once again.

In 2018, Carpenter returned to the franchise his iconic creation spawned for the first time since 1982's Halloween III: Season of the Witch, erasing the 40 years of sequels and reboots that happened under other filmmakers, and returning the story to his original vision. While directing duties for the new Halloween and its sequels have been turned over to David Gordon Green, Carpenter has stayed on to provide them with their unmistakable sonic identity, as integral to Halloween as Michael Meyers' death's-face mask and glimmering butcher knife.

Carpenter has been composing and recording his own scores since he created the soundtrack to his first film, 1974's Dark Star, on a EMS VCS 3 modular synthesizer. While originally a cost-cutting measure, he continued scoring most of his films even after he started making multiplex staples in the 80s and 90s, with the soundtracks to the Halloween series, They Live, and Escape from New York becoming classics in their own right. Over the past two decades, Carpenter's directed only one feature (The Ward in 2010), but during that time he's come to be recognized as much for his musical vision as his filmography. His boldly assertive compositions and pioneering use of synthesizers have inspired musicians in cinema and far beyond. His influence has been felt from the underground to pop radio, and played a foundational role in the modern synthwave movement. Since 2015, Carpenter's released three albums of original music on Sacred Bones, created alongside Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, with remixes provided by some of his more notable fans.

Like the film itself, Carpenter's score to the second installment of the new Halloween trilogy, Halloween Kills, stays true to the spirit of what made the 1978 original great while bringing it firmly into the present. The music is unmistakably Carpenter: the sinister vintage synth tones, the breath-stealing sense of menace that he conjures with just a few dissonant notes. But with a broader sonic palette, new digital techniques at his disposal, and a deeper sense of musicality, the Halloween Kills score is the work of a master artist who nearly 50 years into his career continues to push his creative limits and find new ways to thrill and terrify his fans.
