Grant Green ranked alongside Wes Montgomery as the most exciting new jazz guitarist of the early 1960s. Green recorded a couple of dozen very memorable albums for Blue Note in styles ranging from modal jazz to soul jazz, bop, funk, Latin and spirituals. 1961's Grant's First Stand was recorded soon after the prolific guitarist was discovered by Lou Donaldson and brought to the Blue Note roster with great acclaim. He's heard here in a stripped-down trio with just Hammond from Baby Face Willette and drums from Ben Dixon. The set is raw and soulful and very much in the vein of what Donaldson was bringing to the label at a time. This 180g LP pressing from Vinyl Passion comes complete with the bonus track "Swingin' At Sugar Ray's."

  1. Miss Ann's Tempo
  2. Lullaby Of The Leaves
  3. Blues For Willareen
  4. Baby'S Minor Lope
  5. Tain't Nobody's Bizness If I Do
  6. A Wee Bit O'Green
  7. Swingin' At Sugar Ray's (bonus track)
