My Favorite Things: 60th Anniversary Deluxe Edition
Regular price $37.00 Save $-37.00Released in 1961, My Favorite Things made John Coltrane a star with box-office pull previously reserved for the likes of Dave Brubeck and Miles Davis. The dazzling quartet treatment of the Richard Rodgers hit song features Coltrane on soprano saxophone for the first time on record and became an instant hit single in its own right. The album also became a major commercial success, receiving the Grammy Hall of Fame award in 1998 and attaining gold record status in 2018. The recently uncovered mono version of this album – once believed to be lost forever – is included in this deluxe package along with the stereo version, both having been mastered from the original tapes. This 60th Anniversary deluxe edition also includes liner notes by award-winning writer Ben Ratliff, as well as photos and Atlantic Records ephemera.

Station to Station
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00"The return of The Thin White Duke..." So begins David Bowie's tenth studio album, 1976's Station To Station. In part influenced by his role in Nicolas Roeg's film The Man Who Fell To Earth, ever the innovator, Bowie became the character The Thin White Duke; a composite, part his character from the film, alien Thomas Jerome Newton, part Buster Keaton and part European cabaret artist. After the release of 1975's soul and funk-inspired Young Americans, Bowie and the album's guitarist Carlos Alomar, Earl Slick (guitar), the E-Street Band's Roy Bittan (piano), Dennis Davis (drums), George Murray (bass) and Warren Peace (backing vocals) entered Cherokee Studios in Los Angeles to record its follow up.
Touching on his love of German electronic bands, American R&B and even film music plus the talents of his American band, Bowie crafted an album drawing on both European and American sensibilities; a transition between his recent Plastic Soul period and what would become his re-acquaintance with European culture when he moved to Berlin the following year. The opening 10-minute title track leaves the listener in no doubt that another ground-breaking Bowie transformation is taking place. From the sound of a moving train and two-note intro, through the introduction and intention of The Thin White Duke - taking in Crowley, Cocaine and Kabbalah and Romanticism - the song is a piece of paranoid and dislocated electronic-funk.
This is followed by the distinctive UK and US Top 10 single "Golden Years," which hints at the funk and soul of his previous album. "Word On A Wing" is the first of the album's two ballads, with a decidedly Christian theme – a song which in later years Bowie said was something of a cry for help. The back-to-back "TVC15" and "Stay" provide the album with a funkier feel, the former having said to have been influenced by being sprawled in front of a dozen TV monitors and a dream about a girlfriend being eaten by a TV set. A great admirer of Nina Simone's version of the song, the album's second ballad and final track is a cover of Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington's ballad "Wild Is The Wind," generally considered an inspired and classic Bowie vocal performance.
Station To Station was a top 5 success in the U.K. and U.S. It would, as many authorities said, divide the decade for Bowie. He thereafter left the US for Berlin with Iggy Pop and embarked on a journey which saw the creation of his seminal Berlin Trilogy, as well as playing a major role in Iggy's acclaimed The Idiot and Lust For Life albums.

Sign O The Times (150 Gram Vinyl)
Regular price $34.00 Save $-34.00More than any other release in his four-decade-long recording career, Prince's iconic double album Sign O' The Times captured the artist in a period of complete reinvention. Primarily recorded between the end of 1985 and beginning of 1987, the era saw the dissolution of his band The Revolution, the end of his engagement to Susannah Melvoin, and the creation (and ultimate abandonment) of the albums Dream Factory, Camille, and Crystal Ball. By the end of that period of transformation, Prince emerged with one of his most urgent and wide-ranging releases to date — an epochal double album that would be hailed as a creative, critical, and commercial triumph.

Collection
Regular price $24.00 Save $-24.00Soccer Mommy is the project of Sophie Allison, a 19-year-old Nashville native and musical wunderkind. Sophie built her reputation as a DIY artist, recording her own songs and releasing them for free on Bandcamp over the last few years. Collection compiles the best of Sophie's Bandcamp work as well as a few new songs, written, mixed and produced herself. The songs portray an artist fully-formed, mature far beyond her age singing about toxic relationships, infatuations, and all the experiences of being a teenage girl.
Or, as Sophie describes her subject matter, "crush stuff with a hint of bad to it." There's a playfulness to the music that belies the sophisticated nature of the songcraft. The songs can be sweet, they can be happily melancholic or melancholically happy, but they always cut deep. They belong on playlists and mixes, to be shared among friends and belted out during road trips. These perfect pop gems have power.
"Allison," a gorgeous meditation on the bittersweet feeling of hurting someone you love while pursuing your own dreams, showcases Sophie's talent for home recording, with multi-tracked vocals layered to perfection while the relatable and anthemic "Out Worn," is a searing takedown of the desire for male validation which strikes the perfect balance between anger and sugary pop bliss.

SATURDAY NIGHT IN SAN FRANCISCO (CRYSTAL VINYL)
Regular price $48.00 Save $-48.00Jazz writer Walter Kolovsky proclaimed that Friday Night In San Francisco "may be the most influential of all acoustic guitar albums." LPs of it have been a demonstration staple on turntables around the world for over 40 years. To celebrate the lasting impact of this singular album and the legendary concert that it represents, Impex Records proudly presents the long-awaited follow up, Saturday Night In San Francisco!
Working with hours of original 16-track live session tapes, Al Di Meola and his team have brilliantly curated this musical tour-de-force, bringing to life for the first time on 180g vinyl LP the explosively virtuosic final performance of Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco De Lucia at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, December 6, 1980. In the exclusive essay by music historian Charles L. Granata, Di Meola says of that final night: "It's exciting because the audience was right there with us, savoring every single note of music. And, we were ripping. It was crazy good!"
Impex worked carefully with Di Meola, mixing engineer Roy Hendrickson (SPIN Studio), and mastering engineer Bernie Grundman to recreate the magic of Friday Night In San Francisco so these never-before-released solos and trios burst out of your system with striking clarity, dynamics and technical brilliance. "Crazy good," indeed.
A Very Lonely Solstice (IEX) (Clear) (Colored Vinyl, Clear Vinyl, Indie Exclusive)
Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00Robin Pecknold brings light to the bleakest of winters with Fleet Foxes' 'A Very Lonely Solstice,' a 13-track career spanning collection recorded in December 2020, at Brooklyn, NY's St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church. Now being released for the first time on vinyl, CD and digital formats, 'A Very Lonely Solstice' captures a poignant moment in time. The recording was originally broadcasted as a live-stream event on the winter solstice of 2020, just days after New York declared a state of emergency tightening restrictions again in response to increasing COVID-19 cases. Pecknold describes the set as "me by myself on the longest night of the year... honoring the loneliness of 2020 with a nylon string and some songs new and old." Fans worldwide tuned in while quarantined at home, finding solace and a sense of community in a period of extreme isolation. Much of 'A Very Lonely Solstice' showcases a solo focus on Pecknold who offers up acoustic arrangements of fan-favorite songs spanning Fleet Foxes' catalog. Selections cover all four of the band's studio albums, including their 2008 self-titled debut album ("Tiger Mountain Peasant Song") to 2011's Helplessness Blues ("Blue Spotted Tail") and 2017's Crack-Up ("If You Need To, Keep Time On Me"), all the way to their latest release, Shore. Resistance Revival Chorus joins Pecknold on Shore tracks "Wading In Waist-High Water" and "Can I Believe You." Also featured: a cover of Nina Simone's "In The Morning" and a rearrangement of the traditional "Silver Dagger."

A Collection of Great Dance Songs
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. A Collection of Great Dance Songs is a compilation album by Pink Floyd, released on 23 November 1981 by Harvest Records. The title is facetious, given that Pink Floyd are not known for making particularly danceable music. This is perhaps evidenced by the album art, which featured a photograph of ballroom dancers anchored to the ground so they cannot move. The album contains alternative mixes of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (which comprises parts 1, 2, 4 and 7) edited down for time reasons, and "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" (which combines the intro from the single mix with the album version). Also, the track "Money" was re-recorded as Capitol Records refused to license the track to Columbia/CBS Records. David Gilmour re-recorded the track himself, guitars, keyboards, bass guitar and vocals and co-producing the song with James Guthrie. Dick Parry reprised his saxophone role on the track. There are some differences between the re-recorded version and the original; mainly in the saxophone and guitar solos and the overall use of reverb. The drumming is noticeably different from Nick Mason's, especially during the guitar solo, with very little of the tom-tom fills heard on the original.

Regular price $43.00 Save $-43.00To celebrate a decade since the arrival of My Head Is An Animal, Of Monsters and Men present a 10th Anniversary colored vinyl 2LP reissue. Originally released in Iceland in 2011, this edition has four bonus tracks that were not on the 2012 U.S. version, including two never-before-heard songs: "Phantom" and "Sugar in a Bowl." Both songs were written at the same time as the rest of the songs on My Head Is An Animal, yet were only newly recorded. The band first performed "Phantom" in 2010 for the renowned Icelandic music competition Músíktilraunir, and their eventual win helped to jump-start their career. Meanwhile, "Sugar In A Bowl" was never recorded or performed in any capacity. "This album is how most of you got to know us and how we got to know you and for that we are forever grateful," said the band regarding the special release. "Thank you to everyone that listened to and supported us this past decade. Here's to another ten years!"

Boyz N The Hood (Various Artists)
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00Boyz N The Hood is the critically acclaimed story of three friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles neighborhood, and of street life where friendship, pain, danger and love combine to form reality. "The Hood" is a place where drive-by shootings and unemployment are rampant. But it is also a place where harmony coexists with adversity, especially for three young men growing up there: Doughboy (Ice Cube), an unambitious drug dealer; his brother Ricky (Morris Chestnut), a college-bound teenage father; and Ricky's best friend Tre (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), who aspires to a brighter future beyond "The Hood." In a world where a trip to the store can end in death, the friends have diverse reactions to their bleak surroundings. Tre's resolve is strengthened by a strong father (Larry Fishburne) who keeps him on the right track. But the lessons Tre learns are put to the ultimate test when tragedy strikes close to home, and violence seems like the only recourse. The Oscar-nominated 1991 film's gold-certified soundtrack peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and is comprised of '90s hip-hop (Ice Cube, 2 Live Crew) and R&B (Tevin Campbell, Tony! Toni! Toné!) plus a few score pieces from Quincy Jones and Stanley Clarke.
