It's not too far fetched to say that the Spice Girls rejuvenated the British pop market with a verve and swagger not seen since the days of Beatlemania. True, Britpop was in its pop phase when they burst onto the scene with their single "Wannabe" making them overnight sensations – becoming household names took a week – but that style while vital to the independently minded was pretty much an all-male preserve. The Spice Girls catered for the all-important younger end of the market, and their parents but it was impossible to escape them or ignore them.

Their debut album Spice, a canny amalgam of R&B, dance and teeny bop pop, took the concept of Girl Power to arenas – having filled those they would soon be filling stadums. They made records and broke them. Spice was a No. 1 in 17 countries and went 10x Platinum in the UK alone. The rest was hardly icing on their sweet cake either. America made them 7x Platinum and Europe, Canada and Australasia all crumbled thereafter. Spice sold nearly 30 million copies on its own and the next three albums ensured they'd become the best selling female group of all time. Brilliantly managed and marketed by Simon Fuller and Virgin it goes without saying that everything they did thereafter turned to Gold and beyond.

Considering the Spice Girls' 2007 Greatest Hits collection was released seven years after their third and final studio album, Forever (2000) the fact it still sold seven million copies is testimony to the durable nature of Girl Power. Available for the first time on vinyl, the special edition picture disc contains no less than four top 10 smash hit singles including "Wannabe," "2 Become 1," "Spice Up Your Life," "Viva Forever," "Goodbye" and many more. The double sided picture disc comes packaged in a die cut sleeve, with 12 "x 12" insert.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2018 holiday release. Eric Clapton's first ever full-length studio holiday album, Happy Xmas, is on Clapton's Bushbranch Records/Surfdog Records. Happy Xmas is Clapton's 24th studio album and his first since 2016's I Still Do. It mixes instantly recognizable holiday classics with lesser-known unique titles along with an original new song "For Love On Christmas Day." The album also features cover art illustration by Clapton himself. Clapton's bluesy spins on the classics are quite a delight: "White Christmas," "Away in a Manger," "Jingle Bells (In Memory of Avicii)," "Silent Night," "Merry Christmas Baby," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and more (including some obscure holiday tunes and a new original, too).

1981's October saw U2 rising not only to the usual challenges of proving that you're more than a one-album wonder, but to the specific pressure of creating new work as the clock ticked ever louder. Where Boy had only brushed against a mainstream audience in the UK, peaking at No. 52, October reached No. 11. "Fire" was the opening shot, and it made some noise. The song was their first hit single at home, reaching the Top 5 in Ireland, and gave U2 their first UK Top 40 entry. Next came "Gloria," the second single and the opening track. The song's Latin chorus foretold an LP with strong religious themes, but also with a developing sense of the band's songwriting maturity and instrumental dexterity. The innate percussive tension of "I Threw A Brick Through A Window" and urgency of "Rejoice" were offset by the measured, near-instrumental "Scarlet" and the affecting piano balladry of "October" itself.

The Marfa Tapes is a collection of beautifully intimate and raw songs written and recorded by Jack Ingram, Miranda Lambert, and Jon Randall in the tiny, middle-of-nowhere town of Marfa, TX. Barely a dot on the map, Marfa is an eccentric outpost in the midst of a vast expanse of nothingness, the perfect place to lose – or find – yourself. For Lambert, Randall, and Ingram, it's both. Over the past several years, the desolate location has become a songwriting haven for the trio, yielding both massive hits and profound personal growth. When they returned for five days in November 2020 though, they came not to write, but to record, capturing a captivating new album inspired by the stark beauty of west Texas and the deep, lasting bonds the three have forged there. Recorded raw and loose with just a pair of microphones and an acoustic guitar, The Marfa Tapes is a stunning work of audio verité; an intimate, unadorned snapshot of a moment in time fueled by love, trust, and friendship.

"I'll never forget pulling into Marfa that first night at 4am," said Lambert. "The stars were like nothing I'd ever seen before, just this endless blanket hanging so low you could reach up and touch them. I immediately understood why this place was so special." "There's no TV, no radio, nothing to do out there but pour a cocktail, sit around the campfire, and talk," continued Randall. "Eventually, that just inevitably leads to songs. There's no pressure to write, but most of the time, the three of us can't seem to help ourselves." "There's something singular that happens in that moment of collaboration and creation, something you can never really recreate in the studio," notes Ingram. "Our hope with this album was to share a little bit of that magic with people."

The trio recorded much of the album outdoors, inviting the ambient sounds of the desert to seep into their live, bare bones performances, and the atmosphere is utterly transportive. While a couple of the tracks may already be familiar to listeners – ACM Song of the Year "Tin Man" as well as fan favorite "Tequila Does" – the vast majority of these songs have never been heard outside of Marfa. The result is a rare glimpse inside the creative process of three of the genre's most accomplished writers and performers; a candid, unvarnished look at Lambert, Randall, and Ingram's undeniable chemistry in its purest, most honest form.
