Though they have come to be one of the defining bands of the '90s, and an entire era of alt-rock, the number of people who actually got to see Sublime live in their heyday is remarkably small. They wouldn't experience their major breakthrough until the tragic death of Bradley Nowell, so most of their shows up until the immediate tours after 40oz to Freedom started gaining traction a year after it's release took place in impromptu settings at house parties, barbecues, and bars. There have been many, many bootlegs produced of these shows, but none can boast what $5 at the Door does: It's the best sounding live recording of the band at their pre-Sublime prime, capturing their 1994 set at Tressel Tavern, as they knock out Grateful Dead covers and sound like a runaway train car that is laying it's own track as it rambles down the tracks.
Black Ice Translucent Vinyl. Mammoth Wvh is the debut, self-titled album of Mammoth Wvh - the band created by Wolfgang Van Halen. This collection includes the chart topping new single, "Distance" plus "Don't Back Down," "Epiphany," "Mammoth" and more.
At the beginning of 2015, Wolf broke ground on what would become Mammoth Wvh with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette [Alter Bridge, Slash] behind the board. Wolf began to embrace his voice, inspired by everyone from his father, to bands like AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, TOOL, and Jimmy Eat World. In addition to writing and singing every song on the self-title debut album, remarkably Wolfgang plays every instrument. "The name Mammoth is really special to me." says Wolf. "Not only was it the name of Van Halen before it became Van Halen, but my father was also the lead singer. Ever since my dad told me this, I always thought that when I grew up, I'd call my own band Mammoth, because I loved the name so much."

David Bottril (Tool, Muse, Peter Gabriel) Produced Ninth Full Length Effort Serves as Metal Mavericks' Most Ambitious Body of Work to Date!
Mastodonreturns on Reprise Records with their anxiously awaited ninth full-length album,Hushed and Grim. Over the past year, the metal mavericks recorded the album in their hometown of Atlanta, GA, collaborating with producerDavid Bottrill(Tool, Rush, Muse, Peter Gabriel) behind the board. As their most ambitious body of work to date, it consists of 15 tracks, surveying sonic landscapes of rock, psychedelia, punk, metal, alternative, and prog threaded together by the innately expressive musical interplay of these four musicians. At the same time, an atmosphere of loss, loneliness, and longing permeates through the trio of cathartic vocals as they musically say goodbye to old friend, confidant, and longtime manager the late Nick John by architecting a magnum opus that bears the influence of his eternal memory.
"Not The Smile as in ha-ha-ha, more The Smile as in the guy who lies to you every day"... so speaks Thom Yorke on the inspiration behind the name of the new trio consisting of himself, his Radiohead bandmate Jonny Greenwood and drummer Tom Skinner of UK jazz outfit Sons of Kemet. The description is borne out by The Smile's acerbic first single "You Will Never Work In Television Again," a 2:48 blast of ragged, raw energy that moved The New York Times to rave: "Over a bruising 5/4 beat and flailing guitars climbing through three chords, Yorke snarl-sings his avenging fury at 'some gangster troll promising the moon' who'd devour 'all those beautiful young hopes and dreams,' and you can almost feel the spittle flying."
Additional singles "The Smoke", "Skrting the Surface" and "Pana-Vision" - which epically closed the series finale of hit show Peaky Blinders - followed with equal critical acclaim; all are collected on The Smile’s first album, A Light For Attracting Attention, produced by Nigel Godrich.
Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions) features 16 studio recordings of alternate takes, long cuts and jam versions of Wildflowers songs as Tom, band members and co-producer Rick Rubin worked to finalize the album in 1994. The release offers fans further deep access into the writing and recording of Wildflowers, as well as realizing the full vision of the project as Tom had always intended. The collection was produced by Tom's longtime engineer and co-producer Ryan Ulyate who listened to 245 reels of 24-track tape, revealing Tom and his collaborators' evolutionary process, and finding the group willing to do whatever it took to discover the essence and magic in the material.
Co-produced byKid Harpoon(Florence + the Machine, Harry Styles) andMaggie Rogers,Surrenderis the follow-up to the Grammy-nominated artist/producer/songwriter's massively beloved 2019 debut,Heard It in a Past Life, which entered Billboard's Top Album Sales chart at No. 1 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Praised by tastemakers across the board,Heard It in a Past Lifelanded Rogers a nomination for Best New Artist.
In early 2020 - after multiple sold-out headline tours and major festival performances in support ofHeard It in a Past Life- Rogers began the process of winding down and restoring her equilibrium, just as the world was thrown into upheaval. Longing to retreat to more remote surroundings, she relocated to the coast of Maine and completely cut herself off from the noise of the outside world. She spent most of her time reading and resting and walking along the jagged cliffs, compelled by the fierce and unforgiving nature of the North Atlantic Ocean. As she immersed herself in deliberate stillness, Rogers eventually felt called to create music with the same sense of playful, open exploration and internal discovery that made her fall in love with writing and producing music back in high school. Channeling the ocean's unruly energy, she soon arrived at the controlled chaos and ecstatic physicality that would come to define Surrender.
Over the course of 12 unfettered yet exactingly crafted tracks, Rogers fully captures the frenetic intensity of the last two years of her life, bringing her bracing honesty to stories of anger and peace and self-salvation, transcendence through sex and freedom through letting go. Allowing herself abundant space to examine and embody the most complex emotions, Rogers' fierce, unflinching vulnerability ultimately alchemizes all that heightened feeling into her most joyful output yet: a body of work built for the sweaty immediacy of live performance, raw and revelatory and primed for shared abandon. Rogers recorded Surrenderin three distinct locations - her parents' garage, Electric Lady Studios in New York City and Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios near Bath, England.

In 1976David Bowierelocated to Berlin, enlistingBrian EnoandTony Viscontito begin recording the albums that would become known as his "Berlin Trilogy":Low(1977),Heroes(1977) andLodger(1979). Most of the music across the three albums wasn't even recorded in Berlin, the unifying factor actually being Bowie, Visconti and Eno. In fact the only album of the three to literally be recorded in Berlin was the second installment, Heroes. Joining the fold here was King Crimson's Robert Fripp whose strapping guitar lines proved to be the perfect foil for Bowie and Visconti's ahead of the curve sonic innovations.
Propelled by the spectrum spanning singles "Heroes" and "Beauty And The Beast," the LP peaked at No. 3 in the UK album chart in November 1977, a year in which it was also named Album Of The Year in bothNMEandMelody Maker. No mean feat considering the other great music that was released that year, not least of all, both of Iggy Pop's first solo releases,The IdiotandLust For Life, two records which Bowie also had a very big hand in. There's old wave, there's new wave, and there'sDavid Bowie!

The War On Drugsreturn withI Don't Live Here Anymore, their first studio album in four years. Over the last 15 years,The War on Drugshave steadily emerged as one of this century's great rock and roll synthesists, removing the gaps between the underground and the mainstream, between the obtuse and the anthemic, making records that wrestle a fractured past into a unified and engrossing present. The War On Drugshave never done that as well as they do with their fifth studio album,I Don't Live Here Anymore, an uncommon rock album about one of our most common but daunting processes – resilience in the face of despair.
Just a month afterThe War On Drugs'A Deeper Understandingreceived the 2018 Grammy for Best Rock Album, the core of Adam Granduciel, bassist Dave Hartley, and multi-instrumentalist Anthony LaMarca retreated to upstate New York to jam and cut new demos, working outside of the predetermined roles each member plays in the live setting. These sessions proved highly productive, turning out early versions of some of the most immediate songs on IDon't Live Here Anymore. It was the start of a dozen-plus session odyssey that spanned three years and seven studios, including some of rock's greatest sonic workshops like Electric Lady in New York and Los Angeles' Sound City. Band leader Granduciel and trusted co-producer/engineerShawn Everettspent untold hours peeling back every piece of these songs and rebuilding them.
One of the most memorable sessions occurred in May 2019 at Electro-Vox, in which the band's entire line-up – rounded out by keyboardist Robbie Bennett, drummer Charlie Hall, and saxophonist Jon Natchez – convened to record the affecting album opener "Living Proof." Typically, Granduciel assemblesThe War On Drugsrecords from reams of overdubs, like a kind of rock ‘n' roll jigsaw puzzle. But for "Living Proof," the track came together in real time, as the musicians drew on their chemistry as a live unit to summon some extemporaneous magic. The immediacy of the performance was appropriate for one of the most personal songs Granduciel has ever written.
The War On Drugs'particular combination of intricacy and imagination animates the 10 songs ofI Don't Live Here Anymore, buttressing the feelings of Granduciel's personal odyssey. It's an expression of rock 'n' roll's power to translate our own experience into songs we can share and words that direct our gaze toward the possibility of what is to come.
Double vinyl LP pressing. 2022 release from the alternative rockers. "We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slip stream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waist band of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed. 'Return of the Dream Canteen' is everything we are and ever dreamed of being."
