Sometimes, Forever – the immersive and compulsively replayable new Soccer Mommy full-length – cements Sophie Allison's status as one of the most gifted songwriters making rock music right now. The album finds Sophie broadening the borders of her aesthetic without abandoning the unsparing lyricism and addictive melodies that made earlier songs so easy to obsess over. To support her vision, Sophie enlisted producerDaniel Lopatin, whose recent credits include the Uncut Gems movie score and The Weeknd's Dawn FM.
This is the debut from Oxford, England's five piece, dance rock band. Completing the circuit between the minimalism of American composer Steve Reich, guitars that sound like insects and tennis player Andy Roddick, theirs is a uniquely winning formula. Driving percussion high in the mix, guitars played above the 12th fret, no chords and splashes of synth color all come together like the schematics for a piece of precision engineering.
Life Is Yours (Colored Vinyl, White, Indie Exclusive)
Foals take a fresh, thrilling new direction on with their upcoming album 'Life Is Yours', which will be released on June 17th via Warner Records. 'Life Is Yours' is the follow-up to the triumphant, two-part 'Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost', which proved to be a pivotal pinnacle in the band's story. It's hardly the cure for anything but Antidotes, the debut album from Oxford's Foals, is a strong addition to the eternal tradition of dance-friendly art rock most recently exemplified by Franz Ferdinand and Klaxons. The five ex-public schoolboys that make up Oxford's Foals are hardly lacking self-confidence-comically cocky frontman Yannis Phillipakis could annoy for the nation and the band rejected producer David Sitek's original mix-but Antidotes is anything but pony. After spending their youth in rigorous "math rock" outfits, Foals started out in 2005 with the stated intention of having fun. Rather delightfully, this amounted to the discovery that audiences are well disposed to acts they can dance to. A clutch of well-received singles and a guest spot on popular sixth-form satire Skins sealed their popularity. Their origins in academic rock are sometimes obvious, but fine drummer Jack Bevan keeps things moving throughout. Opener "The French Open", with it's gleeful chanted vocals (in French) and fashionable Afrobeat tinged guitar lines, evokes Talking Heads' dada nonsense classic "I Zimbra", itself older than any Foal. First top thirty hit "Cassius" saw jazz-punk back in the charts for the first time since that perennial football crowd favourite "Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag". "Olympic Airways" is a charming if oblique tale of escape that couldn't be further from the bus stop/chip shop style while "Red Socks Pugie" already sounds like a single in waiting. The lyrics might charitably be described as impressionistic and Phillipakis's voice remains nondescript. But with better tunes than Bloc Party and a self-conscious precision that recalls Mogwai in their pomp, the effortlessly pretentious Foals are unmistakably the sound of 2008.

Born out of a series of studio sessions,LP.8was created with no preconceptions or expectations: an unbridled exploration into the creative subconscious. After releasing her sophomore album Inner Song in the midst of the pandemic, Kelly Lee Owens was faced with the sudden realization that her world tour could no longer go ahead. Keen to make use of this untapped creative energy, she made the spontaneous decision to go to Oslo instead. There was no overarching plan, it was simply a change of scenery and a chance for some undisturbed studio time.
It just so happened that her flight from London was the last before borders were closed once again. The blank page project was underway. Arriving to snowglobe conditions and sub-zero temperatures, she began spending time in the studio with esteemed avant-noise artist Lasse Marhaug. Together, they envisioned making music somewhere in between Throbbing Gristle and Enya, artists who have had an enduring impact on Kelly's creative being. In doing so, they paired tough, industrial sounds with ethereal Celtic mysticism, creating music that ebbs and flows between tension and release.
One month later, Kelly called her label to tell them she had created something of an outlier, her ‘eighth album'.
2022 release. After blazing a trail with 2020's critically acclaimed Good Luck Seeker, The Waterboys waste no time in delivering their brand new record All Souls Hill. The album is nine tracks of Waterboys brilliance, all mixed by Scott himself. All Souls Hill is current, on the money social commentary, but with an air of hope. "All Souls Hill is mysterious, otherworldly, tune-banging and emotional." comments Mike. "I made it with Waterboys old and new and my co-producer, brilliant sonic guru Simon Dine. It's nine songs tell stories, explore dreamscapes, and cast a cold but hopeful eye on the human drama."
