Regular price $24.00 Save $-24.00Vinyl LP pressing. 2018 release. No Mercy In This Land is a blues record by Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite. Charlie Musselwhite and Ben Harper were introduced to one another by John Lee Hooker. The legendary musician thought the two men should play together, so he brought them into the studio to record a song called simply "Burnin' Hell." The two remained friends and their paths periodically crossed out there on the road. But it wasn't until 2013 that the two met up in a studio to record what would be their Grammy winning album Get Up!. And as good as that record was, it was just the beginning. Both men agree that their friendship deepened in the many months of touring that followed. And it's that bond, that closeness, that makes this new record something special. At first glance, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite might seem an unlikely pairing. While Ben grew up in in the tree lined Southern California college town of Claremont, a bastion of culture and liberalism just east of Los Angeles, Charlie was raised in Memphis during the time of rockabilly and Sun Records. But while the two might have come to their musical knowledge in different eras and places, as Charlie explains, "We were both searchers and we're still seeking." Each of them possess an enduring hunger for musical knowledge that came to them early.

I Want To Hold Your Hand (Blue Note Tone Poet Series)
Regular price $45.00 Save $-45.00The trio of guitarist Grant Green, organist Larry Young, and drummer Elvin Jones had a unique alchemy from the first time they got together on Green’s 1964 album Talkin’ About. A couple months later the trio reconvened as a quartet with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson to record Street of Dreams. For 1965’s I Want To Hold Your Hand they subtly changed their palette again by adding tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley into the mix. The result was another simmering set imbued with sophisticated soul. The quartet elevates a collection of well-known songs with their easy-going elegance from a surprisingly successful bossa reinvention of the title track by The Beatles to the bona fide bossa nova classic “Corcovado” by Antonio Carlos Jobim. The set also includes unforgettable renditions of standards including Kurt Weill’s “Speak Low,” Victor Young’s “Stella By Starlight,” and Cole Porter’s “At Long Last Love.” I Want To Hold Your Hand capped off an extraordinarily prolific 5-year run for Green that saw him record more than 20 hard bop and soul jazz sessions for Blue Note. When the guitarist returned to the label in 1969 his style had evolved into the jazz-funk that would characterize his late career.

Christmas (Red Vinyl)
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00Christmas, Cher’s first new studio album in five years, includes 13 songs - several holiday classics and four originals. It also has a star-studded list of musical besties including Darlene Love, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé, Cyndi Lauper and Tyga.
“DJ Play A Christmas Song," the first single, was written by Sarah Hudson (Dua Lipa, Katy Perry, Troye Sivan) and her team who contributed four new songs for the album. (Full Track listing below)
Recorded primarily in LA and London, Christmas was produced by longtime collaborator Mark Taylor (“Believe”). Songs include beloved superstar duet classics “What Christmas Means To Me" with Stevie Wonder and "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" with Darlene Love. (Darlene first recorded the song with Phil Spector and a l7-year-old Cher singing background vocals); in addition to a haunting version of “Home" written and sung with Michael Bublé.
“I never say this about my own records but I’m really proud of this one. It is one of the most amazing highlights of my career,” commented Cher.
One of the many highlights is a duet by Cher and Stevie Wonder of Stevie’s “What Christmas Means to Me." Commented Cher, “Every time I hear that harmonica, I’m a teenager again. It’s a personal dream come true for me to record this song with Stevie.”
Two other standouts include an unexpected pairing with Tyga on another Sarah Hudson song called “Drop Top Sleigh Ride” produced by Alexander Edwards, Mike Crook and Ryan OG, and the magnificent "Angels in the Snow" plus "Put A Little Holiday In Your Heart" with Cyndi Lauper.
Songs For Slim (Red & Black Vinyl)
Regular price $23.00 Save $-23.00The Songs for Slim series was constructed in order to raise money for former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap's medical costs, the result of a massive right brain stroke he suffered in 2012. Fellow Replacements members Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson reunited and recorded an original Slim Dunlap song plus three additional covers. Original Replacements drummer Chris Mars also recorded a Slim cover and all five tracks were combined on a limited edition run of 250 numbered copies of 10" vinyl EPs.
Turn 21
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Blessed with a formidable front woman in Brett Anderson, a guitar heroine in Allison Robertson, and a pummeling rhythm section in bassist Maya Ford and drummer Torry Castellano, The Donnas were one of the greatest punk bands of the '90s, male or female, bringing a uniquely hedonistic yet feminist viewpoint to the genre. Now, with the full cooperation of the band, Real Gone Music is reissuing their first four albums on vinyl. With the release of 2001's Turn 21, the band was legal, and God help you if you tried to keep up with them if they showed up at your neighborhood local. Which they just might have... cuz this 2001 album chronicled the highs and lows of being on tour and on the prowl with songs like "40 Boys in 40 Nights." It also captured the full emergence of Allison Robertson as a guitar goddess, joining Angus Young as an officiant at the marriage of Gibson and Marshall. It's no wonder, then, that this album led to The Donnas' signing with Atlantic... these women-no-longer-girls were ready for the major leagues. Includes an LP-sized insert (instead of the original's CD booklet) featuring added band commentary. Remastered for vinyl by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision... and pressed in Blue "Ice Queen" vinyl!
The Donnas
Regular price $32.00 Save $-32.00Recorded when they were still in high school, The Donnas' 1997 debut was and will forever be one of the most infectious, sing-along slabs of punk ever waxed. Owing no small debt to the Ramones (all the way down to their sharing of "anonymous" names), the girls gleefully turn the sex, drugs, and rock and roll dials up to 11, except this time it's the females that are looking for some action ("I wanna huff all night" and "I'm gonna get in his pants tonight" are two representative lyrical lines). And for our Real Gone reissue of this classic, you are getting The Donnas raw and unfiltered... that's right, we actually scored the original quarter-inch 2-track master tape to the album, so you're getting an all-analog version of this punk-rock masterpiece. Band commentary just adds to the fun. Natural with black swirl vinyl pressing!
