Happy Days - 180gm Vinyl [Import]
Regular price $58.00 Save $-58.00Double 180gm vinyl LP pressing housed in gatefold jacket. Includes bonus track. 1995's Happy Days found the group travelling further into a hybrid of heavy metal and improvisation certainly with the addition of Mark Feltham (from Nine Below Zero) on harmonica, who had added his distinctive sound to the later Talk Talk albums, the group create a mesmerizing sound on the more ambient tracks, offering a clear pathway to later groups such as Mogwai. There is still room for some anthemic shoegaze, however, on tracks such as Shocking and Judy Staring Up At The Sun, which features guest vocals from Tanya Donelly.

Sable, Fable - CD
Regular price $14.98 Save $-14.98Compact Disc
Bon Iver's three-song collection SABLE, was a prologue mired
in darkness, a controlled burn clearing the way for new possibilities. fABLE is the book that follows. Where SABLE, was a work of solitude, fABLE is an outstretched hand. Radiant, ornate pop music gleams around Vernon's voice as he focuses on a new and beautiful era. On every song, his eyes are locked with one specific person. It's love, which means there's an intense clarity, focus, and honesty within fABLE. It's a portrait of a man flooded and overwhelmed by that first meeting ("Everything Is Peaceful Love"). There's a tableau defined by sex and irrepressible desire ("Walk Home"). This is someone filled with light and purpose seeing an entire future right in front of him: a partner, new memories, maybe a family. There's something undeniably healing about infatuation. Cleaving to someone else can feel like light pouring in from a door that's suddenly swung wide. But there's a reason SABLE, is of a piece with fABLE; the shadow still rears it's head in lighter times. Even when you've reached a new chapter, you'll still find yourself back in your own foundational muck. A fable isn't a fairy tale. There's good stuff: unbridled joy and trips to Spain. But fables aren't hinged on happy endings; they're here to instill a lesson. As the album winds to a close, he acknowledges the need for patience and a commitment to put in the work. There's a selfless rhythm required when you're enmeshing yourself with another person. The song-and by extension the entire album -is a pledge. He's ready to find that pace.

Call Me
Regular price $30.98 Save $-30.9850th Anniversary Vinyl LP Reissue with Lacquers Cut from the Original Master Tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound
2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Al Green's Call Me, and to celebrate, Hi Records/Fat Possum will reissue the 1973 R&B classic on vinyl with lacquers cut from the original master tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. A combination of 'sweet' and 'funky' is certainly the secret to Al Green's gloriously sentimental and sensual pop songs. Green's subtly controlled falsetto, which he tones right to the threshold of audibility, swings along gently always anchoring the proceedings. However, this sublime set also belts out some fiery sounds right from the very first number. The sinuous, swinging request in the brilliant hit single "Call Me," the relaxed and groovy "Stand Up" with its sharp wind interjections which demand one's unerring attention, are typical of Green's style, just as is his almost disturbing capability to gain comfort from loneliness ("I'm So Lonesome, I Could Cry"). This rhythmically powered music can best be described as light, intensive, dynamic but never flashy ("Your Love Is Like The Morning Sun") and it finds its earthly culmination in soul ("Jesus Is Waiting") and spiritual depth.

Capacity (ECO/RECYCLED VINYL VINYL)
Regular price $29.98 Save $-29.98The trails that Brooklyn’s Big Thief -- Adrianne Lenker (guitar, vocals), Buck Meek (guitar), Max Oleartchik (bass), and James Krivchenia (drums) -- take us down on 2017’s Capacity, the band’s highly critically acclaimed sophomore album, are overgrown with the wilderness of pumping souls.
After 2016’s stunning Masterpiece, Capacity was recorded in a snowy winter nest in upstate New York at Outlier Studio with producer Andrew Sarlo. The album jumps right into lives marked up and nipped in surprisingly swift fashion. They are peopled and unpeopled, spooked and soothed, regenerating back into a state where they can once again be vulnerable. Lenker’s songs introduce us to a gallery of multifaceted women and deal with the complicated matters of identity — at once dangerous and curious, though never unbelievable. Lenker shows us the gentle side of being ripped open. Tricked into love, done in and then witnessing the second act of pulling oneself back together to prepare for it to all happen again, but this time to a sturdier soul, one who is going to take the punches better than ever before and deal some jabs and roundhouses of their own.
The album is thick with raw, un-doctored beauty: most of the songs on Capacity were played for the rest time in the studio and were recorded the same day. “There is a darker darkness and a lighter light on this album,” Lenker explains. “The songs search for a deeper level of self-acceptance, to embrace the world within and without. I think Masterpiece began that process, as a reaction from inside the pain, whereas I feel Capacity examines the pain from the outside.”

N.W.A. Greatest Hits [Explicit Content]
Regular price $37.99 Save $-37.99In the course of little more than three years, N.W.A. reached unprecedented superstardom with their no-holds-barred missives from Los Angeles' toughest streets. Defining the style that came to be known as "gangsta rap," N.W.A. propelled the genre into an expanded musical realm and topped the charts with their own challenging and illuminating style of rhymes unprecedented in their brutal reality over complex, funk-fueled tracks. "The World's Most Dangerous Group" spawned three of the most important figures in gangsta rap's evolution in the process: cornerstone hip hop artist Eazy-E, street lyricist extraordinaire Ice Cube and mega-producer Dr. Dre.
This the group's first Greatest Hits package, was originally issued in 1996, and gathers all the hits that made them infamous including "Fuck Tha Police," "Straight Outta Compton," "Express Yourself," "100 Miles And Runnin'," "Gangsta Gangsta," "Alwayz Into Somethin'," and "Real Niggaz Don't Die" among others. This 2LP-set from Priority Records augments the original track listing with the two bonus cuts "Chin Check" (from the Next Friday soundtrack) and "Hello" (which first appeared on Ice Cube's sixth studio album War & Peace Vol. 2).

Blue Lines (180 Gram Vinyl)
Regular price $29.98 Save $-29.98Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Blue Lines is the 1991 debut album by English trip hop group Massive Attack, released on their Wild Bunch label through Virgin Records. A highly-influential album, Blue Lines featured breakbeats, sampling, and rapping on a number of tracks, but the design of the album differed from traditional hip hop. Massive Attack approached the American-born hip hop movement from an underground British perspective and also incorporated live instruments into the mixes. It features the vocals of Shara Nelson and Horace Andy, along with the rapping of Tricky Kid. Blue Lines proved to be popular in the club scene, as well as on college radio stations. In a contemporary review of Blue Lines, Dele Fadele of NME hailed the album as "the sleekest, deadliest, most urbane, most confounding LP 1991 has yet seen", writing that Massive Attack "put current changes on the dancefloor in perspective and map out blueprints for what must surely come next" and that "after Blue Lines the boundaries separating soul, funk, reggae, house, classical, hip-hop and space-rock will be blurred forever."

Silver Bleeds the Black Sun...
Regular price $24.98 Save $-24.98For more than three decades, AFI has been in a nearly constant state of reinvention. The band have made it a point to evolve with every album-sometimes dramatically so-never allowing themselves to become too comfortable in one genre or rest on any of their impressive career laurels. It's an approach that has grown their audience but also challenged it with a sonic identity that can shift in wild, unexpected directions. Now with their twelfth album, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun..., AFI are once again at the start of a bold new chapter, only this time they've even managed to surprise themselves. How does a band that's known for creative upheaval still find ways to push themselves out of their comfort zones? Typically the group would start an album by immediately throwing themselves into writing and simply letting their intuitive musical shorthand guide the process, but for Silver Bleeds the Black Sun... AFI set out to purposely change their creative approach all together. This time it started with a conversation: how could they break new ground? The key to moving forward actually ended up coming from AFI's collective past. "We started with something that sounded like Echo & the Bunnymen," explains guitarist Jade Puget, who produced and engineered the album. "But eventually we ended up with this melange of death rock and post-punk-all this stuff from the late '70s and early '80s that we grew up on, like Sisters of Mercy, and Bauhaus, and Siouxsie and the Banshees." The goal became making an album with a singular mood, something dreamy and ethereal, and the band members found themselves diving headfirst into influences that had always been deeply embedded in AFI's musical core, but now were being brought to the forefront. Silver Bleeds the Black Sun... is dark and otherworldly, but also grandiose and stately, biting and beautiful in equal measure-in other words, it's very AFI, yet not quite like any version of the band you've ever heard before.

Acclaimed alternative-pop band The Marías released their eagerly awaited debut album CINEMA, on June 25th via Nice Life Recording Company/Atlantic Records. CINEMA was written and produced entirely by Zardoya and her partner - producer and multi-instrumentalist Josh Conway - within their LA apartment. The duo is joined by their closest friends Jesse Perlman (guitar) and Edward James (keys) to round out the band. CINEMA features tracks in both English and Spanish, when dreaming up their first full-length, Zardoya and Conway mined inspiration from such hyper-imaginative filmmakers as Pedro Almodóvar and Wes Anderson, achieving an untamed emotionality that acutely amplifies the most intimate of feelings. In addition to those influential classic films, the album's title also pays homage to the work María and Josh first collaborated on - creating music for film + television scores. (In a nod to the bilingualism of their work, the title CINEMA carries the same meaning in both English and Spanish).

Raw Power
Regular price $31.98 Save $-31.98Nearly 38 years since the initial recording sessions began in the summer of 1972, the controversy surrounding Raw Power has never abated and has only added to the album’s mythic status. First released on Columbia Records in 1973, the savagely bombastic Raw Power by Iggy & The Stooges is perhaps the first record that could truly be called punk.
Produced by Iggy Pop and mixed by David Bowie, it was the confluence of the Stooge’s ages, hormones, creativity, ability, experience, tastes, lack of supervision, contempt for authority, and ambition that has made Raw Power one of the most iconic and revered albums of all time!
Like a lot of albums ahead of their time, upon initial release Raw Power was embraced by the forward thinking ‘disenfranchised youth’ world-wide, the punks in training, rather than the mass pop culture. The album almost single-handedly detonated the punk-rock movement in the next few years after its release, becoming THE album against which all others were measured, where it remains to this day. Before the Sex Pistols, before the Ramones, before The Clash, there was Iggy & The Stooges and Raw Power!
"As the Stones had Chuck Berry, the loosely defined punk movement looked to Iggy." - David Bowie
