Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00SZA, one of the redefining voices of today's contemporary music era, entered the music scene in 2012 with her first critically acclaimed EP, See.SZA.Run. Following that, she released S in 2013 and Z in 2014, both to rave reviews. In 2013, SZA signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, being the first female artist to join the label. SZA wrote and performed on Rihanna's Anti single "Consideration" in 2016 and helped write Nicki Minaj and Beyonce's "Feelin Myself" in 2014. Born in Maplewood, NJ as Solána Rowe, SZA grew up listening to classic and avant-garde jazz, alternative, and rap. She renamed herself finding inspiration within the Supreme Alphabet: the ‘S' stands for savior or sovereign, the ‘Z' for zig-zag, and the ‘A' for Allah.
On the strength of hit lead single "Love Galore," SZA's major label debut Ctrl claimed the No. 3 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart and entered at No. 1 on Billboard's R&B Albums and No. 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums charts. The long-awaited Ctrl is revered for its raw and honest lyrics and features guest appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, James Fauntleroy and Isaiah Rashad. Noisey describes Ctrl as "14 tracks of the dreamy R&B lusciousness that we've come to know and love the New Jersey singer-songwriter for." NPR calls Ctrl "a resolutely confident and skillful R&B album that explores the notions of control and honesty," while The Shade Room proclaims, "‘Ctrl' is actuals! Imagine ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' tailored for our generation."

Al Green-Greatest Hits
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00Al Green Greatest Hits on 180g LP!
Al Green was the first great soul singer of the '70s and arguably the last great Southern soul singer. With his seductive singles for Hi Records in the early '70s, Green bridged the gap between deep soul and smooth Philadelphia soul. He incorporated elements of gospel, interjecting his performances with wild moans and wails, but his records were stylish, boasting immaculate productions that rolled along with a tight beat, sexy backing vocals, and lush strings. The distinctive Hi Records sound that the vocalist and producer Willie Mitchell developed made Al Green the most popular and influential soul singer of the early '70s. Greatest Hits epitomizes that trademark sound with 10 of the R&B legends' all-time classics.
"The honey-voiced Green made some of the most visionary soul music of the Seventies." - Rolling Stone

Good Thing
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Good Thing is the highly anticipated follow-up to Grammy nominated R&B singer/composer Leon Bridges' breakout 2015 debut Coming Home. Produced by Ricky Reed and Niles City Sound (Josh Block, Austin Jenkins and Chris Vivion), the goal here was to take Leon's music in a more modern R&B direction while retaining his renowned style. "I loved my experience with Coming Home," says Bridges. "But Good Things allows me to show more of my influences and art. I'm excited to present this diverse group of songs live." The album is introduced by the funky soul number "Bad Bad News" and tender orchestral ballad "Bet Is Not Worth the Hand."
Good Thing is born from the song "Bad Bad News," and its lyrics "They tell me I was born to lose, but I made a good good thing, out of bad bad news." Now, Leon's story is well known; He went from working as a dishwasher and battling on the open mic scene in his hometown, Fort Worth, TX to being a Grammy nominated artist, performing at the White House, attending the Met Gala and appearing on SNL in a period of two years. Now, an artist with more experience, shows us an album that illustrates the path of a man of small opportunity who embraces the world stage. If Coming Home was Leon Bridges in black and white, then Good Thing is Leon Bridges in Technicolor.

When I Get Home (Clear)
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00When I Get Home represents the next phase in Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Solange's evolution as an artist following the release of her critically acclaimed 2016 album A Seat at the Table. Written, performed, and executive produced by Solange, When I Get Home is an exploration of origin. It asks the question how much of ourselves do we bring with us versus leave behind in our evolution. The artist returned to Third Ward Houston to answer this. The album includes contributions from Tyler, the Creator, Chassol, Playboi Carti, Standing on the Corner, Panda Bear, Devin the Dude, The-Dream, and more. It also features samples from Third Ward's own Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, poet Pat Parker, and Scarface.
"Solange's breakthrough 2016 album, A Seat at the Table, was a sweet-voiced, multilayered manifesto: the sound of one black woman finding her path forward and confronting the ways systemic racism and sexism affect personal struggles. Its successor, When I Get Home, is something different: a reverie, a meditation, a therapeutic retreat, a musicians' playground." - The New York Times
"Solange's growth as an artist has been one of music's most fascinating stories, and, like A Seat at the Table, When I Get Home serves as a thrilling reminder that this is just the beginning of the futures she still has yet to unpack. If she can make a party-friendly album so meaningful, we've barely even witnessed the tip of her vision." - Rolling Stone
"When I Get Home reminds us that she's a frontrunner of R&B in her own right. With soothing production, enveloped with numbing vocals, she leaves you in a state of utopia. This surprise album of 2019 was something we didn't know we needed." - NME

Durand Jones & The Indications
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00In the fall of 2012, Jones left his small-town in Louisiana for the foothills of Indiana. Alto saxophone in tow he enrolled in the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. "Being a singer was never part of the plan," Jones admits. But soon enough he found his way in front of a rowdy rock-n-roll band belting out a rambunctious rendition of "Dock Of The Bay," to a basement full of drunken undergrads. That rowdy band unfolded into The Indications - comprised of Aaron Frazer (drums), Blake Rhein (guitar), Kyle Houpt (bass) and Justin Hubler (organ). Inspired by a handful of dusty and obscure 45s bearing names like The Ethics, Brothers of Soul and The Icemen, The Indications set out to make a record steeped in heavy drums, blown-out vocals, and deep grooves. Gathered around a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder and a case of Miller High-Life, the group spent their Sunday evenings recording into the early hours of the morning. With comparisons from Charles Bradley and Lee Fields to Al Green, the only thing that separates this band from those greats is their youth. Having now taken their raucous live show all across the US, the band have galvanized a following that are ready to take them to the next level.

Third Full-Length Following 2013's Universally Acclaimed Victim of Love
Soul singer Charles Bradley's star has been on the rise since the release of his widely praised 2011 debut album No Time For Dreaming, and his ascent has continued long after the release of his triumphant second album, 2013's Victim of Love. Dubbed "The Screaming Eagle of Soul," the singer is proud to present his highly anticipated third album Changes, on Daptone imprint Dunham Records.
The album is named for his popular, "smoldering" (SPIN) cover of the Black Sabbath track. "I think about the lyrics very closely when I sing ‘Changes' and get emotional," notes Bradley. "It makes me think of my mother and the changes in my life since she passed away."
By now, Bradley's remarkable, against-all-odds rise has been well documented: how he transcended a bleak life on the streets and struggled through a series of ill-fitting jobs before finally being discovered by Daptone's Gabriel Roth. The documentary Charles Bradley: Soul of America, directed by Poull Brien, follows Bradley's extraordinary journey during the electrifying and transformative months leading up to the release of debut album No Time for Dreaming.
The year following the release of No Time For Dreaming was one triumph after another and Victim of Love saw Bradley emerging from his past heartaches stronger and more confident, overflowing with love to share. Victim of Love went on to receive overwhelming praise and was included on numerous "Best of 2013" lists while the album's title track was also named one of Rolling Stone's "Best Songs of 2013."
Produced by Thomas Brenneck and backed by Menahan Street Band, with Changes, the powerhouse performer brings music fans of all ages another unforgettable set of songs and will continue to bring his live shows to stages around the world.

It's a record that connects the dots between Digable Planets, Erykah Badu's Baduizm, the warm, inviting breezes of the West Coast, and the stories that only happen very late at night or very early in the morning, all played by musicians who are carrying the soul torch for the new generation.

Serving as Gaye's first venture into the funk genre and romance-themed music, Let's Get It On incorporates smooth soul, doo-wop, and quiet storm. It has been noted by critics for it's sexually suggestive lyrics, and was cited by one writer as "one of the most sexually charged albums ever recorded." Following the breakthrough success of his socially conscious album What's Going On (1971), Let's Get It On helped establish Gaye as a sex icon and furthered his mainstream appeal. It produced three singles-the title track, "Come Get to This", and "You Sure Love to Ball"-that attained Billboard chart success. Let's Get It On became the most commercially successful album of Gaye's recording career, and it further expanded his creative control during his tenure with Motown.
