3D Country (IEX) (Indie Exclusive, Clear Vinyl, Red, Reissue)
Regular price $26.99 Save $-26.99In the summer of 2021, Geese emerged from out of nowhere, sparking a hype cycle unlike anything that had been seen for a young American rock band in recent memory. Suddenly a band that had previously planned to release some music, break up, and go away to college was touring the world. And during this entire process, that very same band everyone was getting to know ceased to exist. On a practical level, Geese are still the group we were introduced to in 2021. But spiritually, Geese have returned as an entirely different prospect. Their new album 3D Country is the sound of a restless, adventurous band redefining themselves. Anyone who has seen Geese live recently might've noticed the band adopted a different vibe onstage - more of a volcanic, unpredictable aesthetic. It turns out that wasn't a flipside to the recordings of Projector, but foreshadowing that there was more to the story. Knowing they were now beyond teenage basement experiments and were instead making something for an audience who would hear it, Geese felt emboldened. "When we were writing Projector it was about narrowing the scope, trying to do more with less," Gus Green says. "When we started writing for 3D Country we were trying to do a lot more and seeing what worked and what didn't." At the same time, they're well aware of how significant a departure they've made. "As music listeners, we all appreciate bands who change over time, and are comfortable with risk," Cameron Winter adds. It wasn't necessarily a given that Geese would overhaul their sound, but with age came new adventures and interests. "Maybe the last record was our teenage angst and 3D Country is our newfound twenty-something arrogance," he quips.

Getting Killed (Clear Vinyl)
Regular price $24.98 Save $-24.98Geese return with their 3rd album, 'Getting Killed'. They tracked the album with Kenneth Blume in 10 fast-paced days. With scant time for overdubbing, what emerged is a chaotic comedy, shambolic in structure but passionately performed, informed by an exacting vision. Big riffs are layered on choir samples; hissing drum machines pulse softly behind screeching guitars. They balance a disarming tenderness with an intensified anger, trading their love of classic rock for a disdain for music itself.

Projector
Regular price $24.98 Save $-24.98Geese are a quintet of native Brooklyners who formed during their freshman year of high school. They are also one of the most hyped exports to emerge from the borough in years with a complex and energetic sound built from scraps of post-punk, prog, and a deep lineage of New York rock & roll. During the front half of 2020, the band's home-recorded demos suddenly became a target for serious label attention and, having just graduated from high school, Geese found themselves fielding offers from both sides of the Atlantic. New York's Partisan and London's PIAS won out in a joint deal resulting in the release of the band's full-length debut, Projector. Members Cameron Winter (vocals, keyboards), Gus Green (guitar), Foster Hudson (guitar), Dominic DiGesu (bass), and Max Bassin (drums) project a sense of confidence and benefit from the kind of chemistry forged during youth. Over the album's nine tightly arranged cuts, Geese come off far more professional and experienced than they have a right to be. Echoes of Television, the Strokes, and Alt-J, are present in their blend of intricate guitar lines and kinetic rhythms. Opener "Rain Dance" is a captivating and frantic bit of psychedelic post-punk that immediately sets the album's nervy tone. On "Low Era," they mix spidery guitar runs with a moody groove and Winter flexes his range with a rough-hewn falsetto oddly reminiscent of late-'70s John Martyn. Throughout the set, Geese cover a nice range of dynamics, indicating the depth of their influences and tastes. Projector is an impressive debut and all-around solid effort from a band at the start of a promising career. ~ Timothy Monger
Projector (IEX) (Indie Exclusive, Colored Vinyl, Orange, Reissue)
Regular price $25.98 Save $-25.98Geese is a band that begins and ends in Brooklyn, as a project between friends to build a home studio out of a basement. Their songs are born from the same ambition: make music by any means necessary. They began recording together with sneakers as mic stands and blankets draped over the amps, all within the afternoon following a school day, up until they ran the risk of noise complaints. Recently, they signed a record deal, so they are thinking about moving on from sneaker-laden mics and blanketed amps, but their musical ethos has not changed a bit. Curiously alien, yet strangely familiar, the band's debut album, Projector, is a product of five teenagers whose love of music touches every part of their lives: their restless anxiety about their futures, and their pent-up frustration with their present-a perspective all too familiar in today's uncertain world.
