Not that you could go wrong with "It Won't Be Long," "Hold Me Tight" and "You Really Got a Hold on Me." This album from Dacus, which features vocal contributions from boygenius bandmates Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers, was built on an interrogation of her coming-of-age years in Richmond, VA. Many songs start the way a memoir might and all of them have the compassion, humor, and honesty of the best autobiographical writing. Most importantly and mysteriously, this album displays Dacus' ability to use the personal as portal into the universal.

Tron: Legacy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Continuing to exploit their creative urges to their ends, multi-platinum electronic duo Daft Punk (Guy-Manuel de Homen-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) took on one of their most ambitious projects to date in 2008, when they agreed to score the modern remake of the hugely influential 1982 film, Tron. Daft Punk's reverence of the original film and the themes that define it (the evolving relationship between humans and technology, specifically) rendered them discontented working within the means of their own studio. "We knew from the start that there was no way we were going to do this film score with two synthesizers and a drum machine," stated Guy-Manuel. Enlisting a 100-piece orchestra, they emerged from the studio after two years with a work whose importance superseded the editing process of the actual film - the movie was cut to the score, atypically. Tron: Legacy peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was certified gold shortly thereafter. 180g vinyl 2LP-set housed in a gatefold jacket with glow-in-the-dark lettering.

Dropout Boogie
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00After 10 albums, the last five of which have gone top 10 or better, six Grammy awards, and sold-out tours around the world, The Black Keys are back: The duo, called "one of the best rock 'n' roll bands on the planet" by Uncut, delivers its eleventh studio album, Dropout Boogie. Ushered in by lead single, "Wild Child," Dropout Boogie features collaborations with Billy F. Gibbons (ZZ Top), Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound), and Angelo Petraglia (Kings of Leon). As they have done their entire career, the duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney wrote all of the material in the studio, and the new album captures a number of first takes that hark back to the stripped-down blues rock of their early days making music together in Akron, Ohio, basements.
"That's always been the beauty of the thing Pat and I do. It's instant," Auerbach says. "We've never really had to work at it. Whenever we'd get together, we'd just make music, you know? We didn't know what we were going to do, but we'd just do it and it would sound cool. It's the natural chemistry Pat and I have. Being in a band this long is a testament to that. It was a real gift that we were given. I mean, the odds of being plopped down a block-and-a-half from each other in Akron, Ohio – it just seems crazy."
After hashing out initial ideas as a duo at Auerbach's Nashville-based Easy Eye Sound studio, Auerbach and Carney welcomed new collaborators Gibbons, Cartwright, and Petraglia to the Dropout Boogie sessions. Although The Black Keys previously co-wrote songs with frequent producer/collaborator Danger Mouse, this is the first time they have invited multiple new contributors to work simultaneously on one of their own albums. Both Cartwright and Petraglia can be heard on "Wild Child."
"Living in Nashville and making records here has opened both of our minds to that experience a little bit more," said Auerbach. "I knew Pat would love working with both of these guys, so we decided we'd give it a shot. It was the first time we'd ever really done that. It was fun as hell. We just sat around a table with acoustic guitars and worked out a song ahead of time." "The cool thing with Greg is that he wants to approach stuff with a story in mind – there's a plot, almost," added Carney.
The Black Keys had previously jammed with ZZ Top guitar legend Billy F. Gibbons more than a decade ago in Los Angeles, while ZZ Top was working on an album with producer Rick Rubin. "We never even really wrote one song – we just had some ideas we put down," Carney said. "We really just wanted to hang out with him. We stayed in touch, and Dan invited him to the studio once we started working on this album."

Wave of Mutilation: Best of Pixies
Regular price $32.00 Save $-32.00The Pixies Wave Of Mutilation: Best Of The Pixies on 2LP
One of the most revered college-radio bands of the late 1980s and early '90s, the Pixies combined smart yet surreal pop with jagged, punk-influenced rock and, oddly enough, broke up just as the alternative music scene went mainstream. Fueled by Black Francis's oft-maniacal vocals and bizarrely catchy songs, the Boston-based quartet, rounded out by bassist/vocalist Kim Deal, guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering, consistently crafted fascinating albums during their brief but headstrong run. This 23-track collection, released in tandem with their highly anticipated 2004 reunion tour, captures many of their finest moments.
Proceeding semi-chronologically, Wave Of Mutilation begins with the rambunctious ditty "Bone Machine." Other early gems include the strange anthem "Holiday Song," the anthropomorphic ode "Caribou" and Deal's signature song, "Gigantic." The band's beloved 1989 album, Doolittle, is amply represented by seven songs, including the pleading "Hey," the mischievous "Monkey Gone to Heaven," the fierce "Debaser" and the pop-perfect "Here Comes Your Man." Latter-day tunes include rockers such as "Dig for Fire," "Alec Eiffel" and "Planet of Sound," along with two B-sides, "Into the White" and an excellent cover of Neil Young's "Winterlong." If you're looking for the Pixies motherlode, this is it.

Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00The Foo Fighters Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace On Vinyl LP
In 1997, Foo Fighters teamed with alt-rock production cornerstone Gil Norton to make their best album, The Colour and the Shape. Ten years later, they've regrouped with Norton for a disc that's more sophisticated and diverse, if a tad less rockin'. The curveballs include "Stranger Things Have Happened," a solo soul-searcher where leader Dave Grohl's accompanied by just his acoustic guitar and a ticking metronome, and "Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners," an acoustic guitar duet for Grohl and guest virtuoso Kaki King. Plus "Summers End" tickles the Foos' classic-rock fetish with a dead-on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young arrangement. There's still enough of the intense, snarling power-pop that's Foo Fighters' longtime forte. "The Pretender," "Erase/Replace," and "Long Road to Ruin" combine sheer thrust, zeal, and melody like no other group currently on the charts. Yet the finale, "Home," makes its clear that this is a changed band--or, at least, that Grohl's a changed man. With only his piano for company, Grohl's pleading voice reveals fragile layers of insecurity and loneliness as he sings "all I want is to be home." Seems this rock & roll road warrior's mellowed some, albeit without compromising Foo Fighters' vitality.

From 2 To 3
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00From 2 To 3 is the new album from Peach Pit. This new album draws inspiration from 60s-70s rock and folk music, with the band citing Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Eagles, Glen Campbell, and George Harrison as their biggest influences.
If friendship had a sound, it would be Peach Pit. The wistful grooves, glassy guitars, and sun-kissed melodies feel like they could only be made by musicians who have spent close to a lifetime (or at least half of their lives) together. The Vancouver quartet—Neil Smith [vocals, guitar], Chris Vanderkooy [guitar], Peter Wilton [bass], and Mikey Pascuzzi [drums]—trace their union back to high school.
Peach Pit gained traction with their 2017 full-length debut album, Being So Normal, and graced the bills of festivals such as Shaky Knees Festival, Bonnaroo, Firefly Festival and many more. In 2020 Peach Pit revealed You and Your Friends, which DIY Mag hailed as “12 tracks of infectious indie-pop gems” while Atwood Magazine described the band as being “at the cutting edge of the alternative music scene.” And now Peach Pit carry this momentum into 2022, and kick off the next chapter of the band and their friendship with From 2 To 3.

The White Tape (Silver/White Splatter)
Regular price $24.00 Save $-24.00Soon after forming the band, Phish (aka The White Tape) was created from four-track recordings which the band and band members mixed, dubbed and circulated as a demo. It consists of an assortment of four-track recordings from 1984-1985 including four songs recorded by all the existing members of Phish as a band: "Alumni Blues," "AC/DC Bag," "Slave To The Traffic Light" and "Dog Gone Dog" (aka "Dog Log"). The balance was recorded separately by the band members and blended together from 4-track cassettes to create the album as we know it.
The White Tape highlights Phish's early development with ethereal soundscapes and interesting sketches on classics-to-be such as an acoustic "The Divided Sky" as it existed then and even an acapella rendering of "You Enjoy Myself." In 1998, The White Tape was re-mastered from the 2-track cassette master. The original art for the cassette demo was created by Trey himself and was updated for the CD release by artist Jim Pollock. A snapshot in time, The White Tape is a must-have for any fan and a perfect introduction to the band's studio work. New colored LP edition remastered from its original analog cassette master for vinyl.
"The White Tape is to me almost like if you combine all of the good pieces of all of our albums. The creative freedom of that first White Album, the playfulness of Junta, the sound quality of Hoist and the conciseness of Hoist..." - Trey Anastasio, Addicted to Noise
$5 At The Door
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Though they have come to be one of the defining bands of the '90s, and an entire era of alt-rock, the number of people who actually got to see Sublime live in their heyday is remarkably small. They wouldn't experience their major breakthrough until the tragic death of Bradley Nowell, so most of their shows up until the immediate tours after 40oz to Freedom started gaining traction a year after it's release took place in impromptu settings at house parties, barbecues, and bars. There have been many, many bootlegs produced of these shows, but none can boast what $5 at the Door does: It's the best sounding live recording of the band at their pre-Sublime prime, capturing their 1994 set at Tressel Tavern, as they knock out Grateful Dead covers and sound like a runaway train car that is laying it's own track as it rambles down the tracks.

The follow-up to his breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, it was the first album he wrote and released as a bona fide rock star. It was one of six Bowie entries in Rolling Stones list of the 500 greatest albums of all time (at #277) and ranked No. 77 on Pitchfork Media's list of the top 100 albums of the 1970s. Lacking the thematic flow found on it's predecessor, Aladdin Sane was described by Bowie himself as simply "Ziggy goes to America"; most of the tracks were observations he composed on the road during his 1972 US tour, which accounted for the place names following each song title on the original record labels.
