Ramones
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00The Ramones sounded like nothing else when their self-titled debut came roaring onto the scene in 1976. Even so, original drummer Tommy Ramone did do a pretty good job describing the band's primal sound when he penned the quartet's press bio that same year. "The Ramones all originate from Forest Hills and kids who grew up there either became musicians, degenerates or dentists. The Ramones are a little of each," he observed. "Their sound is not unlike a fast drill on a rear molar."
Named the "Greatest Punk Album Of All Time" by Rolling Stone, and certainly one of the most important and influential albums of all time, the 29-minute masterpiece helped launch the punk rock scenes in both America and Britain, and also went on to inspire countless other artists for generations to come. Bringing a bubblegum sensibility to the fast-and-hard mentality, their primal sound is considered a blueprint for all things resembling snotty, catchy, ear-bleeding punk rock.
And with cornerstone anthems like "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Beat on the Brat," "Judy Is A Punk" and "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" as its first four songs alone, Ramones stature and supremacy is hard to argue.
Hunky Dory
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00David Bowie's Hunky Dory still sounds as invigorating, fresh, and kaleidoscopic in scope as it did upon original release more than five decades ago. Built from a six-song demo he had used to entice RCA to sign him and featuring the timeless songs "Changes" and "Life on Mars," Bowie's first album recorded with producer Ken Scott finds the musical chameleon back in the role of singer/songwriter. He pays tribute to his influences with the postmodern pop songs "Andy Warhol," "Song for Bob Dylan," and the Velvet Underground inspired "Queen Bitch." Almost immediately, Bowie followed the record up with the instant classic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. "Hunky Dory gave me a fabulous groundswell," Bowie told Uncut. "I guess it provided me, for the first time in my life, with an actual audience – I mean, people actually coming up to me and saying, 'Good album, good songs.' That hadn't happened to me before. It was like, 'Ah, I'm getting it, I'm finding my feet. I'm starting to communicate what I want to do."

Sigma Oasis (Green/Black)
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00"Sigma Oasis came to be during the first week of November 2019, but it wasn't planned that way at all. We were headed up to The Barn to rehearse for our fall tour and ended up discussing this batch of relatively recent songs that we were particularly proud of and always wished we had recorded, but hadn't had a chance to yet. Trey suggested calling up Vance Powell as he mixed and engineered Ghosts Of The Forest. Vance was very familiar with the space and the console so we set up the gear with no room dividers, no click tracks. Nothing. Just like a Phish show. Open space. We played for a couple days. We just played a bunch of songs - very quickly, a few takes, very organic, natural, live, honest. We had the best time. When we were done, our photographer Rene came up and asked us to come out on the porch and snap a photo. It took about two minutes. And that's the album cover - a snapshot of our band at that point in time.
"Vance had some stuff on his schedule so he asked as a favor if we would mind if he didn't mix until early March. Now four months might sound like a long time, but it gave all of us time to work on the tracks - Page overdubbed a lot of keyboards at home. Trey went to a studio in New York and did vocals and percussion. We had time to pick which songs we wanted to work on. We let a few of them go, which was difficult, but that's ok. When we recorded the album, we didn't plan to release it this way. But today, because of the environment we're all in, it just feels right. We don't know the next time that we're all going to be able to be together. This is an opportunity to have a moment where the Phish community can share something despite being physically separated.
"The last line of the chorus of "Sigma Oasis" sums up this point - There's no place to get. There's nothing to achieve. There's no place to be. We're here. Right here, right now is as good as it gets. "You're already there." It's a content state of mind. You're just completely in the moment. "You're already there." You already have everything you need. Sigma Oasis. It aligns with where we are in our career and as friends and musicians. There's a joy to the playing. We're not clamoring to make it. Make what? We're already there! Sigma Oasis." - Phish

Definitely Maybe
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Vinyl LP pressing. Remastered edition of Oasis' classic debut album. 'In 20 years' time, people will buy DEFINITELY MAYBE and listen to it for what it was. That's what is important.' Noel Gallagher, August 1994. Remarkably confident words from a guitarist on the eve of his band's debut album release. But Oasis were always certain in their abilities - and the public were just as clear the five-piece were on the right track. Let's get the statistics out of the way. On it's release in August 1994, DEFINITELY MAYBE sold a record-breaking 86,000 copies in it's first week, the highest first-week sales for a debut album in Britain. It has since gone on to sell 5 million around the world. Over the course of their eight albums until disbanding in 2009, Oasis sold over 70 million albums. More importantly, the songs sound as fresh and relevant today as they did 20 years ago. A hunger to escape will always sound vital, especially if it's sung as mesmerically as Liam Gallagher and written with the urgency of Liam's older brother Noel.

The 5x-platinum affair peaked at No. 1 on four charts including the Billboard 200 and gave Korn their first entries on the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts with "Got The Life" and "Freak On A Leash." The latter also earned the band their first Grammy Award. Further album standouts include "B.B.K.," "Children of the Korn" and "All in the Family."
"We were listening to tons of rap, but we also liked bands like Pantera and Sepultura and as we evolved, I think we learned to mix those two styles better," notes Jonathan Davis. "Plus, I grew up on new wave and I always wanted to make music that had lots of melody. We got that into the first two records, but Follow the Leader was where we were able to really emphasize the hooks and people loved that shit." "We never wanted to sound like every other band," Reginald Arvizu adds. "Even though we liked all those bands that were part of the sound that we helped create, we've always wanted to be step ahead of everyone else who was doing this kind of music."
"In attack and distemper, Korn have the Nineties hip-hop, amp-death aesthetic...down to ferocious perfection." - David Fricke, Rolling Stone

Jubilee
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00From the moment she began writing her new album, Japanese Breakfast's Michelle Zauner knew that she wanted to call it Jubilee. After all, a jubilee is a celebration of the passage of time – a festival to usher in the hope of a new era in brilliant technicolor. Zauner's first two albums garnered acclaim for the way they grappled with anguish; Psychopomp was written as her mother underwent cancer treatment, while Soft Sounds From Another Planet took the grief she held from her mother's death and used it as a conduit to explore the cosmos. Now, at the start of a new decade, Japanese Breakfast is ready to fight for happiness, an all-too-scarce resource in our seemingly crumbling world.
Jubilee finds Zauner embracing ambition and, with it, her boldest ideas and songs yet. Inspired by records like Bjork's Homogenic, Zauner delivers bigness throughout – big ideas, big textures, colors, sounds and feelings. At a time when virtually everything feels extreme, Jubilee sets its sights on maximal joy, imagination, and exhilaration. It is, in Zauner's words, "a record about fighting to feel. I wanted to re-experience the pure, unadulterated joy of creation...The songs are about recalling the optimism of youth and applying it to adulthood. They're about making difficult choices, fighting ignominious impulses and honoring commitments, confronting the constant struggle we have with ourselves to be better people."
Throughout Jubilee, Zauner pours her own life into the universe of each song to tell real stories, and allowing those universes, in turn, to fill in the details. Joy, change, evolution – these things take real time, and real effort. And Japanese Breakfast is here for it.
