Driven by the smash hit "Name", the album catapulted the band to mainstream success, and it was certified double platinum within a year of the release. 1975's Young Americans spent almost a year on the U.S. charts, peaking at No. 9 on Billboard's Albums chart, while its single "Fame" hit No. 1 on the Pop Singles chart. Bowie's Diamond Dogs had cracked the U.S. Top 5 the previous year, so while Young Americans was not the album that initially broke Bowie in America, it was certainly the one that aligned him with Rod Stewart and Elton John in the top ranks of the decade's Stateside superstars.

Young Americans, representing the zenith of Bowie's influential soul period, contributed in no small measure to breaking white soul music into the mainstream. The album was, in theory, about "emotional drive," but came to represent much more than that, both upon its release and over time. Young Americans is Bowie's vision of and reply to a wide swath of above-board and underground musical and socio-political influences, including soul music, politics, sex, drugs, dancing, and the cultural scenes of downtown New York and uptown Philadelphia.

A No. 2 U.K. chart peak made it Bowie's first studio album in three years not to reach the top spot. Nonetheless, the album's legacy would be profound, as a new movement of U.K. soul drew inspiration from Bowie's cool version of Americana and revolutionized British pop in the process. 2018 marks the 25th anniversary of Liz Phair's landmark album Exile in Guyville and Matador Records is celebrating the occasion with the release of the extensive 7LP/3CD Girly-Sound To Guyville box sets and this standalone 2LP reissue of the original 1993 album remastered by Emily Lazar at The Lodge.

Ever since her audacious debut, Exile In Guyville, landed in 1993, Liz Phair has been cipher for a certain kind of aesthetic. She's been called "the female face of indie rock," a "slacker poet of the first degree" and a "brainy bad girl," but she forever remains America's sardonic sweetheart. With Exile..., Phair created what's considered a track-by-track response to The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main St by reverse-engineering sexual objectification for the female gaze, all while keeping her tongue firmly in cheek.

Fusing lo-fi production with a singer-songwriter sensibility, Phair helped shape what would become "indie rock" and defied expectations of what a female rock star could be. Digitally remastered and expanded deluxe 20th Anniversary edition of their 1989 debut album including 12 previously unreleased live bonus tracks. Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, Bleach was released in June of '89 and remains unequivocally/unsurprisingly Sub Pop's very favorite Nirvana full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of their 1991 sophomore effort, Nevermind. Subsequently Bleach went on to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The bonus tracks are an unreleased live recording of a complete February 9th, 1990 show at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Packaging contains a 52-page booklet which includes previously unreleased photos of the band.

On 1998's Yield, Pearl Jam and Brendan O'Brien teamed up once again for a spirited session marked by the breakthrough of band members (guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard, bassist Jeff Ament and drummer Jack Irons) bringing in finished songs for Eddie Vedder to add his signature lyrics to. With a more accessible mainstream rock sound and a full-scale tour (and replacing Irons with Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, the band's drummer to this day), Yield became the band's fifth straight album to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Pearl Jam is pleased to reissue the highly sought after Yield back on vinyl for the first time since its original 1998 release in celebration of the 20th anniversary of it's 1996 predecessor No Code. Following 2018's A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, The 1975's much-anticipated fourth studio effort, Notes on a Conditional Form is the second of two albums from the British band's third release cycle, Music for Cars. Over the past six months, the band has dropped a selection of sonically-diverse singles from Notes on a Conditional Form. Released in July of 2019, "The 1975" features a spoken-word recording from Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg, underscored by instrumentals. On the heels of "The 1975" came the punchy, punk-infused "People," while "Frail State Of Mind," which frontman Matty Healy described as a song about anxiety, followed in October. The two most recent singles off the album included the shoegazey "Me & You Together Song," and the twangy, "The Birthday Party."

"Every time I do a 1975 record, I kind of just go through my catalogue of music, the mental rolodex," says Healy. "And I think that Notes is an interesting record, because it has our most aggressive moments and our most tranquil moments, and they're quite harshly lined up against each other. I don't have a playlist of one type of music, so I don't consume music like that, and when I'm inspired it'll never happen twice in one genre."

On Notes On A Conditional Form, the band's family has grown to encompass new collaborators too, including actor Timothy Healy, Matty's father. "Don't Worry" was written by Healy senior when Matty was 11 and was dusted down and recorded by the band for NOACF. Elsewhere, FKA twigs and Phoebe Bridgers lend their vocals as backing textures and a duet from the latter. "It became such a personal record that there were no rules anymore," adds Healy. "Anybody who had breached the intimacy of the studio was inherently part of the record already. With Phoebe, I just felt like I hadn't loved a female vocal like hers in like a decade – I was obsessed with her record."

The Front Bottoms are an American indie band that originated in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. In August 2007, after Brian Sella (vocals, guitar, lyricist) finished his first year of college, he and childhood friend Mathew Uychich (drums) began playing together under the name The Front Bottoms. Soon after, Uychich's brother Brian Uychich (keyboard, vocals) began sitting in on their practices. Brian asked to join the band, playing an old keyboard he found in the Uychich family attic.
