Give My Love To London - Red
Regular price $23.98 Save $-23.98GATEFOLD 180G RED VINYL. Faithfull's previous four albums in the 21st century have all been strong, but this one tops them. Her writing collaborators here include Nick Cave, Anna Calvi, Ed Harcourt, Patrick Leonard, and Tom McRae. Her bandmates are an all-star unit too, and include Harcourt, Adrian Utley, Dimitri Tikovoi, Rob and Warren Ellis, and strings. Cave co-wrote one song with her (the tender "Deep Water") and one for her: the glorious "Late Victorian Holocaust," the album's hinge piece. Give My Love to London is as complete a portrait of the artist - at least from the late '70s on - as we've ever had. In total, it reveals no abatement in her creative renaissance. This reissue is a special one with a red colored vinyl edition.
Track List
- Give My Love to London
- Sparrows Will Sing
- True Lies
- Love More or Less
- Late Victorian Holocaust
- The Price of Love
- Falling Back
- Deep Water
- Mother Wolf
- Going Home
- I Get Along Without You Very Well
Before The Poison - Clear
Regular price $23.98 Save $-23.98180G CLEAR VINYL. Before the Poison is an album that concerns itself with both sides of love, friendship, and redemption, not desolation or desperation. That said, there is plenty of human shadow in these ten songs. PJ Harvey wrote three songs here, co-wrote a pair with Faithfull, and is present on all of them. Nick Cave co-wrote three with the singer and his Bad Seeds back her on these tracks. She also co-wrote one a piece with Blur's Damon Albarn and composer Jon Brion. Along with Harvey and Cave, Rob Ellis and Hal Willner aided in production. Therefore, Before the Poison, like it's predecessor, Kissin' Time, is an album of collaborations. But unlike that offering, this one is seamless; it's songs are sequenced impeccably and all feel of a piece linked by emotional thematics. Before the Poison is poetic and unnerving; it stands alone in her catalog in the same way that Broken English did - but this time, on the other side of the mirror. This reissue is a special one with a clear colored vinyl edition.

Easy Come Easy Go - White
Regular price $32.98 Save $-32.98GATEFOLD 180G WHITE VINYL. Songstress Marianne Faithfull last collaborated with producer Hal Willner on her iconic Strange Weather album in 1987 and the match also feels effortless and natural here. Like Strange Weather, Easy Come Easy Go is a covers collection, featuring Faithfull in different musical settings and interpreting the songs of everyone from Merle Haggard to Smokey Robinson to Duke Ellington to Randy Newman to the Decemberists to Morrissey with a killer guest list including Antony Hegarty, Rufus Wainwright, Teddy Thompson, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Jarvis Cocker, Jenni Muldaur, Sean Lennon, Warren Ellis, Nick Cave, and Keith Richards. The core band on this set includes old friends like Marc Ribot and Greg Cohen as well as drummer Jim White, Rob Burger, Doug Weiselman, Steve Weisberg, Barry Reynolds, Steven Bernstein, Marty Ehrlich, and Lenny Pickett. The sense of stylistic sprawl on these 12 songs is incredible. For example, the album opener, a cover of Dolly Parton's "Down from Dover," features the full band and guests numbering 18 strong! Faithfull's trademark deep-throated, whiskey-and-cigarettes-ravaged voice shows up in excellent form and take you on journeys through love, lust, tragedy, and longing and bring you home again. This reissue is a special one with a white colored vinyl edition.

Universal Mother
Regular price $29.98 Save $-29.98Sinéad O'Connor is widely regarded as one of the most influential female performers of the '90s, not only for her sensational performances and raw vocal emotion but also for her outspoken confidence to express herself publicly. Sinéad was born in Dublin in 1966, and was discovered by Paul Byrne, drummer of U2 protégés In Tua Nua, while singing wedding covers in the city. After co-writing the first In Tua Nua single, she left school to focus on music, studying voice and piano at the Dublin College of Music before relocating to London in 1985. Released in September 1994, Universal Mother was described by Sinéad as "the first attempt to try to expose what was really underneath a lot of the anger of the other records". The album features sparse, striking but delicate arrangements on intense and honest songs. Standout moments include the singles 'Thank You For Hearing Me' and 'Fire On Babylon', along with contributions from Germaine Greer (on opening track 'Germaine'), and Sinéad's son.

I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got
Regular price $30.98 Save $-30.98Limited 180gm vinyl LP repressing. I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got became Sinéad O'Connor's popular breakthrough on the strength of the stunning Prince cover "Nothing Compares 2 U," which topped the pop charts for a month. But even it's remarkable intimacy wasn't adequate preparation for the harrowing confessionals that composed the majority of the album. Sinéad O'Connor ranked among the most distinctive and controversial pop music stars of the alternative era, the first and in many ways, the most influential of the numerous female performers whose music dominated airwaves throughout the last decade of the 20th century. Brash and outspoken - her shaved head, angry visage, and shapeless wardrobe a direct challenge to popular culture's long-prevailing notions of femininity and sexuality - O'Connor irrevocably altered the image of women in rock; railing against long-standing stereotypes simply by asserting herself not as a sex object, but as a serious artist, she kick-started a revolt which led the way for performers ranging from Liz Phair to Courtney Love to Alanis Morissette.

Sun Without the Heat
Regular price $23.98 Save $-23.98On her new album Sun Without the Heat, McCalla brings more playfulness and joy than she has on previous records when she speaks to the concerns that have shaped her career, mainly including an ethos in which you must look back at lost and erased histories before you can embrace a forward vision of Afrofuturism and the importance of music making to heal and forge relationships across differences. Across Sun Without the Heat's ten tracks, she achieves this with music that combines jazz, Haitian Twoubadou, American blues, folk and Brazilian Tropicalismo. Born in New York City to Haitian emigrants and activists, McCalla possesses a stunning mastery of the cello, tenor banjo and guitar. A founding member of Our Native Daughters alongside Rhiannon Giddens, Amysthyst Kiah and Allison Russell and an alumna of Grammy award-winning band The Carolina Chocolate Drops, McCalla has also received considerable praise and attention for her solo works, including 2014's Vari-Colored Songs: A Tribute to Langston Hughes, which prompted the New York Times to rave that "her voice is disarmingly natural, and her settings are elegantly succinct" and 2022's Breaking The Thermometer (4/5 review from The Guardian). Lyrically on Sun Without the Heat, McCalla draws from the writings of Black feminist Afrofuturist thinkers Octavia Butler, Alexis Pauline Gumbs and Adrienne Maree Brown, among others, with frequent themes being grief, connection and motherhood. Like these authors, McCalla is thinking hard about collaboration as a means of creative expression, community thinking, personal salvation, and rectifying social injustice. "The stories we've been told about ourselves and the stories that we have to learn to undo the stories we've been told," she explains."Sometimes these are painful stories to tell. This is especially vivid in the title song, "Sun Without the Heat."

Super Moon
Regular price $19.98 Save $-19.98Southern California alternative rock band Dirty Heads deliver their seventh studio album, Super Moon. The 10-track collection was helmed by four-time Grammy-winning Nashville, TN-based super producer Dave Cobb (A Star is Born soundtrack, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson) and is introduced by the title track single "Super Moon," which vocalist Jared "Dirty J" Watson describes as "a 70's sci-fi kung fu Western car chase soundtrack. It gives you a look into the sonics, tone, and creative narrative of this album. It was all recorded live in the same room to tape in Studio A in the old RCA building in Nashville where legends like Johnny Cash and Elvis recorded a lot of their work." Follow-up summer anthem, "'Lift Me Up' is a classic Dirty Heads, a weed song," adds Watson. "We tapped into our own lives - we used to be drug dealers, so this is our version of Curtis Mayfield's 'Pusherman,' the theme song for some Shaft-style weed-seller." The vocals and instrumentals lay you back, setting your mind to wander, while the alternative rock riff gets a slight reggae infusion.

Bloom
Regular price $24.98 Save $-24.98Larkin Poe, the dynamic sister duo known for their electrifying blend of Southern rock, blues, and Americana, emerges once again onto the musical landscape with their eagerly anticipated album, 'Bloom'. Following their Grammy-winning success with 'Blood Harmony' in 2024, the duo has ventured deeper into their musical journey, crafting a collection of songs that resonate with introspection, authenticity, and a profound connection to their roots in American music. The album "Bloom" marks a significant evolution in Larkin Poe's creative journey. All the songs were born from collaborations between Megan, Rebecca, and co-producer Tyler Bryant, reflecting a synergy that extends beyond mere musical partnership. As Rebecca observes, "'Bloom' is about finding oneself amidst the noise of the world, about wholeheartedly embracing the flaws and idiosyncrasies that make us real." This theme of self-acceptance is central to the album's narrative: celebrating individuality against a backdrop of contemporary blues and rock influences.

The band is most often noted for it's loud/soft musical dynamic and Aaron Perrino's soaring vocals, screaming in key one moment and howling a falsetto the next. The band has a large die-hard fan base in what is often called "the three Bs": Boston, Buffalo, and Belgium. Their first full-length album New Parade was released in 1999. Enduringly credible, Magazine have always been the music connoisseur's choice; frequently name checked by some of the most gifted musicians of recent years including Radiohead, Morrissey, Jarvis Cocker, U2, Johnny Marr and MGMT. NME. Com went so far as to included Magazine in a poll as one of the most influential bands of all time. Created by frontman, Howard Devoto - who co-formed Buzzcocks with Pete Shelley - Magazine's sound focused on the double barrels of Dave Formula's swirling keyboards and John McGeoch's ahead-of-it's-time innovative guitar work, underpinned by Barry Adamson's pulsing yet deviously irregular basslines. Atop of this sat Howard Devoto's lyrics. Leading the vanguard of post-punk, their released four groundbreaking albums before disbanding. 2011's No Thyself, released following a 2009 reformation, is repressed for the first time on colored vinyl and features unseen images and new notes from band members compiled and curated by Rory Sullivan-Burke.
