The R.E.M. of 1987's Document was a sinewy, muscular rock beast, primed and ready to dominate the airwaves. Peter Buck's distinctive jangle and chime was still apparent on "Disturbance At The Heron House" and "Welcome To The Occupation," but, for the most part, his guitar playing took on a sharp, steely quality. Accordingly, he turned in some of his most memorable recorded performances: launching "Finest Worksong" with urgent, metallic riffs; embroidering the swampy funk of "Lightnin' Hopkins" with Andy Gill-esque tension and atonality; and punctuating the band's supercharged cover of Wire's "Strange" with a neat, Nuggets-style psych-pop solo. Michael Stipe also summoned up a clutch of startling performances here: bending and twisting his voice like an old time preacher around "Lightnin' Hopkins" and rattling off a rapid-fire alternate history of the 20th Century on the exhilarating "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." Document's savage break-out single "The One I Love" provided R.E.M. with their first major US hit single when it peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard singles chart.

Double vinyl LP pressing. 2018 release, the fourth studio album by British band Mumford & Sons. The album was recorded at The Church Studios in London with producer Paul Epworth. The album features the lead single, "Guiding Light". The band recorded more than 25 songs with Epworth and were intent on keeping the "collaborative spirit" of their live shows and 2016 EP Johannesburg. Marcus Mumford has said that much of the album was recorded in "non-gender specific Friday night lads sessions" with friends where they would play music, "smoke cigarettes and have a great time". Around 100 people were involved in these sessions, with some being featured on the record, including American singer-songwriters Maggie Rogers and Gill Landry.

2018 marks the 25th anniversary of Liz Phair's landmark album Exile in Guyville and Matador Records is celebrating the occasion with the release of the extensive 7LP/3CD Girly-Sound To Guyville box sets and this standalone 2LP reissue of the original 1993 album remastered by Emily Lazar at The Lodge.

Ever since her audacious debut, Exile In Guyville, landed in 1993, Liz Phair has been cipher for a certain kind of aesthetic. She's been called "the female face of indie rock," a "slacker poet of the first degree" and a "brainy bad girl," but she forever remains America's sardonic sweetheart. With Exile..., Phair created what's considered a track-by-track response to The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main St by reverse-engineering sexual objectification for the female gaze, all while keeping her tongue firmly in cheek.

Fusing lo-fi production with a singer-songwriter sensibility, Phair helped shape what would become "indie rock" and defied expectations of what a female rock star could be. While her sexually provocative lyrics is what first enthralled the indie press, it was her fearless singing, her effortless hooks and the specificity of her lyrics that connected with fans.

Since their humble beginnings nearly 25 years ago, when they started playing in a San Diego garage, Blink-182 has gone on to become one of the defining rock bands of their generation, selling over 50 million albums worldwide and rocking audiences from Adelaide to Zurich. The trio of bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker, emerged from the SoCal pop-punk scene of the early-90s and quickly gained a reputation for their raucous live shows, incredibly catchy songs and irreverent, tongue-in-cheek humor. Blink-182's latest studio release, California, with new member Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio who replaced DeLonge, debuted at #1 in July 2016, giving the band their second career #1 album and first in 15 years.

Blink-182's third studio album, and first with new drummer Travis Barker, Enema of the State, marked their breakthrough to the mainstream and went on to sell 15 million copies worldwide, launching them to global fame. The band enlisted producer Jerry Finn, who a few years earlier had worked on Green Day's smash, Dookie, and recorded the album at various studios throughout San Diego and Los Angeles over a three-month period. "What's My Age Again?," "All the Small Things" and "Adam's Song" became hit singles and staples on MTV and crossed over into Top 40. "What's My Age Again?" achieved the highest success on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart, where it peaked at #2. The subsequent "All The Small Things" crossed over from alt-rock radio to contemporary hit radio, peaking at #6 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

The album peaked at #9 on the Billboard 200, selling 109,000 copies in the U.S. its first week and eventually was certified five times platinum. The album was also an international phenomenon: quadruple platinum in Canada, triple platinum in Australia, double platinum in Italy, platinum in the UK, as well as gold in Austria, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the Philippines and Switzerland. Ranked #37 on Rolling Stone's 2016 list of the "40 Greatest Punk Albums of All Time," the album is cited as having an enormous impact on contemporary pop punk, reinventing it for and inspiring a new generation and spawning myriad bands.

Vinyl LP pressing. Dude Ranch is the second studio album by Blink-182. Recorded at Big Fish Studios in Encinitas, California with producer Mark Trombino, the album was released in the United States on June 17, 1997, jointly through independent label Cargo Music and major label MCA Records. MCA signed the band in 1996 following moderate sales of their debut Cheshire Cat (1995) and growing popularity of the trio in Australia. Dude Ranch was the band's final recording released on Cargo and their last with original drummer Scott Raynor before he was dismissed from the band in 1998. The band recorded the album during the winter of 1996-1997. With lyrical material written on the band's nonstop tours over the previous years, as well as completed songs, the band recorded with Trombino in sessions that lasted for five weeks.

With Teens of Denial, his first real "studio" album with an actual band, Will Toledo moves from bedroom pop to something approaching classic rock grandeur and huge (if detailed and personal) narrative ambitions, with nods to the Cars, Pavement, Jonathan Richman, Wire, and William Onyeabor. Teens of Denial refracts Toledo's particular, personal story of one difficult year through cultural touchstones such as the biography of Frank Sinatra, the evolution of the Me Generation as seen in Mad Men and elsewhere, plus elements of Eastern and Western theology. Jane's Addiction's third release Ritual De Lo Habitual is one of the cornerstones of 1990s alternative rock. The double platinum affair features the group's breakthrough hit "Been Caught Stealing," as well as the genre classics "Stop!," "Ain't No Right" and "Classic Girl," alongside the back-to-back epics "Three Days" and "Then She Did." Unfortunately, Ritual De Lo Habitual would also serve as the band's final album with the original lineup. Known for their explorative and restless sound, taking influence from old style rock like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Pink Floyd as well as from electronica and hip hop, each of Radiohead's albums marks a cornerstone in their musical evolution. Debut Pablo Honey (1993) was their answer to grunge while follow-up albums The Bends (1995) and OK Computer (1997) offered atmospheric, almost avant-garde tones.

With the near impossible task of following up their critically acclaimed masterpiece OK Computer, Radiohead took another bold leap at the turn of the millennium with 2000's Kid A, an experimental album built largely around the union of electronica and mood. Musically, Kid A is as accomplished as anything Radiohead has ever produced and it's overflowing with eye-opening musical mosaics which are absolutely stunning in their insight and beauty.

Kid A initially proved to be controversial as critics labeled the mixture of electronic beats, jazz horns and strings as "difficult" but tracks like the soaring "Optimistic" kept fans loyal and saw Radiohead crowned as masters of composition. A left-field hit, Kid A was eventually nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year and won for Best Alternative Album.

Originally a postpunk outfit with gothic leanings, The Cure evolved into one of the most visionary, creatively satisfying and influential groups to come of age in the 1980's. Limited 180gm audiophile vinyl LP pressing including insert. Shangri-La Dee Da was the fifth studio album by American Hard Rock band Stone Temple Pilots. It was produced by Brendan O'Brien and released in 2001. The album was certified Gold. While recording the album, the band also worked on a documentary and coffee table book. Neither was released, however, and limited footage was made available through the band's official website in the form of live performance-based music videos. The album's most successful song 'Days of the Week' was only being performed at a handful of dates on the supporting tour for the album. However, the album's second single 'Hollywood Bitch' has become a staple of the band's live set ever since their 2008 reunion.

With synthesizers and mind-numbing excess on the rise, The Smiths took the road less traveled, challenging listeners with outspoken lyrics and taunting guitars.
