...And Justice for All
Regular price $42.98 Save $-42.98The digitally remastered edition of Metallica ...And Justice for All is the fourth studio album by the heavy metal icons, originally released on August 25, 1988. It was the first Metallica studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted after the death of Cliff Burton in 1986. ...And Justice for All was recorded in early 1988 at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles. It features long and complex songs, fast tempos, and few verse-chorus structures. The lyrics feature themes of political and legal injustice seen through the prisms of censorship, war, and nuclear brinkmanship... And Justice for All was acclaimed by music critics. It was included in The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics' poll of the year's best albums, and the single "One" earned Metallica its first Grammy Award (and the first-ever in the Best Metal Performance category) in 1990. Double 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Includes digital download.

Louder Than Love, Soundgarden's second full-length studio album and major label debut (after the independently released, Grammy-nominated Ultramega OK), was originally released by A&M Records on September 5, 1989, and was the last to include bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Recorded with producer Terry Date at Seattle's London Bridge Studios, it announced the arrival of a major force on the emerging Pacific Northwest rock scene, later to include Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
The album peaked on the Billboard chart at #108, yielding the singles, "Loud Love," "Hands All Over" and the radio-only promo "Get on the Snake," the latter of which was featured in the 1989 movie Lost Angels. Guns N' Roses later paid tribute to the band by covering "Big Dumb Sex" on their 1993 album, The Spaghetti Incident? as part of a medley with T. Rex's "Buick MacKane." Q magazine named the album one of the "50 Heaviest Albums of All Time" in 2001.
Newly remastered from the original analog tapes by Bob Ludwig, UMe is pleased to reissue Louder Than Love on 180-gram vinyl in August 2016 complete with an accompanying digital download card for 320kbps MP4 AAC audio.

Meat is Murder
Regular price $28.98 Save $-28.98The Smiths' eclectic 1985 release finds the band branching out into rockabilly, post-punk and flashes of funk, all while refining the guitar pop of their debut. Produced by Morrissey and Johnny Marr, Meat Is Murder is the band's sole studio album to reach No. 1 on the U.K. charts. "The Headmaster Ritual" and "I Want the One I Can't Have" are fine elaborations on the formula the band introduced on their debut, while "Rusholme Ruffians" is an infectious take on rockabilly. There was no other British group making music quite like this in 1985.

Clean
Regular price $27.98 Save $-27.98Sophie Allison aka Soccer Mommy's debut Clean is an emotional album, heavy on themes of growth, isolation, and change, but balanced by a lightness of touch, and with hooks to spare. "Still Clean" is a stunner of an opening track, with the signature warmth of Allison's voice coupled with one of her best refrains. Her growth as a lyricist is most evident on "Cool," a sharply observed character study describing an aloof stoner girl, so cool and untouchable, and the agony she inflicts on her boyfriend. "Flaw" is the comedown from a song like "Cool." A melancholy ode to lovesick self-loathing that finds ecstasy in sadness. "Scorpio Rising" crystallizes these themes of identity, jealousy, and the desire to be someone else. Clean – the cohesive record Allison dreamt of making – is a true step forward, a strong and mature album from an artist just coming into her power.

III
Regular price $27.98 Save $-27.98The Lumineers' new album III is audacious: every note, every syllable, and every moment of silence in between is emotionally charged. It's darker in tone than previous albums and is presented in three chapters, with each one centering on one main character from a fictitious family known as the Sparks, who span three generations in the album's storyline. III's concept began while the band was writing in the Catskill mountains, where producer Simone Felice works. Mixing raw emotional themes with their ear-catching melodies, expressive vocals and trademark acoustic sound, III moves masterly in artistic directions not yet traveled by the band. Regarding the cinematic new record, multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites says, "This collection of songs worked out in a beautiful way, and I feel with this album we've really hit our stride." Vocalist Wesley Schultz adds that lead single "Gloria," "is about love between an addict and her family." 180g vinyl 2LP-set with three bonus tracks.

Throwing Copper
Regular price $38.99 Save $-38.9925th Anniversary Vinyl 2LP Reissue featuring the Original Ablum Plus Three Bonus Tracks!
Initially released in April 1994, Throwing Copper cemented Live's position as one of the most instrumentally powerful and lyrically impactful bands of the modern alternative-rock era. Throwing Copper, which topped the Billboard 200 Albums chart a year after its initial release, also features a pair of No. 1 Modern Rock singles ("Lightning Crashes," "Selling The Drama") and has since been certified 8x multiplatinum by the RIAA, having sold over 8 million copies.
Produced by Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) and recorded at Pachyderm Recording Studios in Cannon Falls, MN, Throwing Copper built upon the earnest sonic template the tight-knit four-piece band from York, PA established with their compelling 1991 debut album, Mental Jewelry. From the anthemic manifesto of "Selling the Drama" to the fervent declaration of "I Alone" to the unrelenting charge of "All Over You" to the emotional-rollercoaster journey of the epic "Lightning Crashes," Throwing Copper handily reinforced Live's drive to connect with their ever-expanding audience in as many ways as possible.
Frontman Ed Kowalczyk humbly recognizes how Throwing Copper continues to elicit indelible, deep-rooted feelings to this day, "The fact that these songs have become part of our fans' DNA – that this album still matters to them and there's still such an emotional connection – that is the real accomplishment. All of the other things are great, that there are all of these trophy moments to reminisce about. But at the end of the day, the process and the journey and the music transcend all of those."

Cleopatra
Regular price $28.98 Save $-28.98Vinyl LP pressing. 2016 album from the Grammy-nominated outfit. It took four years for The Lumineers to follow up their platinum-plus self-titled debut - which spent 46 weeks on the Billboard 200 and peaked at #2 - but Cleopatra is well worth the wait. During that time, The Lumineers - whose original members Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites founded the band in Ramsey, New Jersey back in 2002 - earned a pair of Grammy nominations (Best New Artist, Best Americana Album). Cleopatra proves Schultz and Fraites - along with cellist/vocalist Neyla Pekarek- are neither taking their good fortune for granted, nor sitting back on their laurels. With the help of producer Simone Felice (The Felice Brothers, The Avett Brothers), the man Wesley calls "our shaman," the band ensconced themselves in Clubhouse, a recording studio high atop a hill in rural Rhinebeck, N.Y., not far from Woodstock. The band had total artistic freedom in writing and recording the album, so Wesley and Jer pushed the envelope on experimental tracks like the stream-of-consciousness, purposely lo-fi "Sick in the Head," the yearning, piano chord build-up of "In the Light," or the closing orchestral instrumental, the aptly titled coda, "Patience." "We continue to make the kind of records we want to," says Wesley. "We believe in this music. It's a true labor of love. We just want to keep reaching more people with our songs." Given the evidence on The Lumineers' eagerly anticipated sophomore album Cleopatra, that shouldn't be a problem.

R.E.M. achieved global success with the 1988 release of Green, the Athens, Georgia quartet's sixth studio album and first for Warner Bros. Records, which would be the band's label home for the rest of their recording career. While R.E.M. was fast becoming one of the most acclaimed and revered acts in the U.S., Green was their first album to gain the attention of a worldwide audience.
Packed with tracks destined to be definitive additions to the band's canon, including "Orange Crush," "Pop Song 89," and "Stand," Green was certified double platinum by the RIAA and doubled the domestic sales of the band's previous release. Green continued R.E.M.'s dedication to the message of social consciousness, as evidenced by the album's title, which would go on to became a ubiquitous buzzword for environmentally friendly initiatives.
"On paper, this looks to be the band's biggest album ever - strong singles material ("Get Up," "Stand" and "Orange Crush"), a major label, a more accessible sound. So it's not for nothing that the album is titled Green, although environmental concerns, naivete and the generally positive attitude of the record must also have something to do with it." - Michael Azerrad, Rolling Stone

2016 Vinyl Reissue of 1986 Classic!
Very few albums are regularly credited with changing people's lives. R.E.M.'s Lifes Rich Pageant is one of them. For a generation that came of age in the 80s, as well almost everyone that came within earshot of its contents, the Georgia band's 1986 landmark effort remains an utterly distinctive sonic blend of elegance and whimsy, seriousness and humor, artfulness and accessibility. It's here that R.E.M. evolves beyond its college-rock identity albeit retains its youthful innocence, here where Michael Stipe's enigmatic vocals finally attain the same level of prominence as the group's potent rhythm section.
Lyrically, R.E.M. hits upon more concrete themes, and while Stipe's occasionally mumbled singing still lacks clear enunciation – a trait that adds to the songs' mystique and surrounding textures – there's no mistaking the overt political and environmental sentiments in tunes such as the hit "Fall on Me" and gorgeous "Cuyahoga." Similarly, "Flowers of Guatemala" epitomizes R.E.M.'s hallmark ability to turn allegory into dreamy poetry, the counterpoint melodies, atmospheric guitar fills, and majestic bridges all enchanting devices of a band that manages to get its point across via spiritual performances and indirect suggestiveness.
Such qualities lie at the heart of Lifes Rich Pageant, on which subtle details and concerted purposes unite to make transcendent, lasting art. Bolder, more pronounced, refined, and immediate than that on previous efforts, Mike Mills' bass lines and Peter Buck's swelling guitar passages augment the hard-driving beats as well as Stipe's increasingly upfront vocals. Disposing with the intentional murkiness and subconscious approach of earlier records, R.E.M. goes in attack mode here, with even mellow numbers resonating with an attention-getting kick. It doesn't hurt that the band covers the field with expertly executed songs that comprise garage rock, jangle pop, rustic country, and more either.

Much to the delight of critics and fans the world over, they did more than deliver-they far exceeded expectations. - Building from the sweeping, three-guitar attack that punctuated the best movements of Pablo Honey, The Bends is grand and forceful; it resonates with anguish and despair. Although the influences-R.E.M., the Pixies, and U2-are still there, this is unmistakenly Radiohead maturing and defining their own sound.

Known for their explorative and restless sound, taking influence from old style rock like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Pink Floyd as well as from electronica and hip hop, each of Radiohead's albums marks a cornerstone in their musical evolution. Debut album Pablo Honey (1993) was the band's warning shot and answer to grunge, a promising effort with Thom Yorke's vulnerable yet acerbic vocals already in place and a textured three-guitar dynamic that's strident one moment and wonderfully atmospheric the next. In terms of musical maturity, Radiohead was clearly years ahead of their time even at these early stages, yet the band was only scratching the surface with the strong-minded songwriting of "Stop Whispering" "Anyone Can Play Guitar" and surprise hit "Creep."

Known for their explorative and restless sound, taking influence from old style rock like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Pink Floyd as well as from electronica and hip hop, each of Radiohead's albums marks a cornerstone in their musical evolution. Granted classic album status almost immediately upon its release in 1997, Radiohead's third album OK Computer transformed the British quintet from a highly promising rock act into 'The Most Important Band in the World,' a distinction the group has wrestled with ever since. Combining elements of bombastic prog rock with alternating time signatures and traditional pop songwriting, OK Computer was a bold artistic departure from the sound of the band's well received prior efforts and it was the first true sign of the band's now legendary restless ambition.
