Mr. Bungle's debut for Warner Bros., originally released in 1991, is one of the most difficult major label 'rock' records of all time. Led by Mike Patton and with downtown New York legend John Zorn as producer, Mr. Bungle is a twisted and schizophrenic ride through genres from metal to klezmer, all punctuated by Patton's brutal, filthy, and often hilarious lyrics. Faith No More may have seen greater success but there's no doubt that Mr. Bungle was the better representation of Mike Patton's artistic vision. Brutal and brilliant, and reissued on 180 gram vinyl.

DISCO VOLANTE is the second studio album by American experimental rock band Mr. Bungle. Released in 1995, it is considered by many to be the most experimental of all their albums, picking up inspiration from a wide variety of musical styles including Death Metal, Techno, 1950s space age pop, musique concrète and Italian avant-garde. Faith No More's vocalist Mike Patton also uses a great number of vocal effects boxes and samples throughout the album. The album's title refers to the name of the yacht of the same name featured in the James Bond ?lm Thunderball. 'Disco Volante' has been well received by critics, being called a 'totally original and new musical style, and an album that sounds like nothing that currently exists'. The track 'Desert Search for Techno Allah' is described as 'a middle eastern Techno number that has to be heard to be believed'. This is a band whose sole purpose is to break all the pre-existing rules of music and doesn't think twice about taking chances.

This was the final album before the band’s separation in 2000. It was created 4 years after their largest critical success, Disco Volante. This album takes after a more ska influenced vibe, toning down on the metal and jazz from their other albums. Nobody ever accused Mr. Bungle of being suckers for a good melody. The syncopated blasts of cartoonish noise that fill 1991's Mr. Bungle and 1995's Disco Volante are one part speed metal and one part Speedy Gonzalez. Initially, the band served as a more aggressive outlet for singer Mike Patton, widely known for his work in Faith No More. But with Faith No More no more, Patton and Mr. Bungle decided to sweeten the Bungle batter with a little songcraft. California boasts harmonies (yes, harmonies!) that would make the Brothers Wilson proud. Opening with a chorus of seagulls and crashing waves that gives way to slide guitar, strings, and Patton singing (not screaming), the poppy yet symphonic "Sweet Charity" announces that this is not your bike messenger's Mr. Bungle album. Songs like the easy strummin' "Retrovertigo," the sultry Scott Walker-esque "Pink Cigarette," and the orchestral "Vanity Fair" make California 1999's golden-hair surprise.

Milky Clear. Originally released in 2005 by Island records in the UK and Europe, and by Rykodisc in the US, Witching Hour is the third studio album from the Liverpool formed electric outfit Ladytron, now celebrating 20 years since it's release. Described at the time by Pitchfork as "the most urgent and immediate of their career", it contains notable singles "Sugar", "International Dateline" and "Destroy Everything You Touch".

3 Feet High and Rising is the debut studio album by hip hop trio de la Soul and was released on March 3, 1989. It marked the first of three full-length collaborations with producer Prince Paul, which would become the critical and commercial peak of both parties. Critically, as well as commercially, the album was a success. It contains the singles, "Me Myself and I", "The Magic Number, " "Buddy, " and "Eye Know". The album title came from the Johnny Cash song "Five Feet High and Rising". It is listed on Rolling Stone's 200 Essential Rock Records and The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. When Village Voice held it's annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll for 1989, 3 Feet High and Rising was ranked #1. It was also listed on the Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Released amid the 1989 boom in gangsta rap, which gravitated towards hardcore, confrontational, violent lyrics, de la Soul's uniquely positive style made them an oddity beginning with the first single, "Me, Myself and I". Their positivity meant many observers labeled them a "hippie" group, based on their declaration of the "D.A.I.S.Y. Age" (Da. Inner. Soul. Yall). Sampling artists as diverse as Hall & Oates, Steely Dan and The Turtles, 3 Feet High and Rising is often viewed as the stylistic beginning of 1990s alternative hip hop (and especially jazz rap).

For more than three decades, AFI has been in a nearly constant state of reinvention. The band have made it a point to evolve with every album-sometimes dramatically so-never allowing themselves to become too comfortable in one genre or rest on any of their impressive career laurels. It's an approach that has grown their audience but also challenged it with a sonic identity that can shift in wild, unexpected directions. Now with their twelfth album, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun..., AFI are once again at the start of a bold new chapter, only this time they've even managed to surprise themselves. How does a band that's known for creative upheaval still find ways to push themselves out of their comfort zones? Typically the group would start an album by immediately throwing themselves into writing and simply letting their intuitive musical shorthand guide the process, but for Silver Bleeds the Black Sun... AFI set out to purposely change their creative approach all together. This time it started with a conversation: how could they break new ground? The key to moving forward actually ended up coming from AFI's collective past. "We started with something that sounded like Echo & the Bunnymen," explains guitarist Jade Puget, who produced and engineered the album. "But eventually we ended up with this melange of death rock and post-punk-all this stuff from the late '70s and early '80s that we grew up on, like Sisters of Mercy, and Bauhaus, and Siouxsie and the Banshees." The goal became making an album with a singular mood, something dreamy and ethereal, and the band members found themselves diving headfirst into influences that had always been deeply embedded in AFI's musical core, but now were being brought to the forefront. Silver Bleeds the Black Sun... is dark and otherworldly, but also grandiose and stately, biting and beautiful in equal measure-in other words, it's very AFI, yet not quite like any version of the band you've ever heard before.

Ex-boxer turned showman, Screamn' Jay Hawkins was born Jalacy Jay Hawkins in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1929. He was a talented singer-songwriter, musician and actor and during the sixties became infamous for his macabre stage performances that would plague him for the rest of his professional career. Hawkins recorded his signature song "I Put A Spell On You" in October 1956 for Okeh Records, reputedly while drunk, and later claimed that he didn't even remember making the record. It might explain the wild screaming and cannibalistic grunts that secured his fame and led to his pioneering shock rock stage show. He reprised the song in 1967 with a funky beat which found a release in the States on Decca Records coupled with a rework of the Shades Of Blue "You're An Exception To The Rule". The '67 version features here as the title track to the 1977 album released on the New York Versatile label. Now extremely sough-after this up tempo long-play fuses reimagined standards with new Hawkins compositions and includes the 1973 single "Africa Gone Funky" featuring the legendary Skull Snaps as the backing band, an appropriate choice given Hawkins' smoking skull-on-a-stick, named Henry!

Rilo Kiley - Under The Blacklight

With this record, New Order properly arrived as a band that could make a consistent, coherent album. Great, tuneful songs (three of which are deliciously poppy) no filler, and a big, full sound that perfectly blended the electronic with the organic, made this their best album so far. There was only one non-album single this time, (the rather weak "Shellshock") and in-fact two songs were actually (the shock! the horror! Sell out! Sell out!) lifted from the album as singles. But fear not, the remixed, extended versions of "The Perfect Kiss" and "Subculture" are so unbelievably good that I think New Order were forgiven!

Featuring remastered audio from 2019 previously only available in the 'Movement Definitive Edition' boxsetThe debut album from New Order, originally produced by Martin Hannett, who had previously collaborated with Joy Division, features eight original tracks all written after the sudden death of Joy Division's Ian Curtis, including 'Dreams Never End' and 'Truth' which were both penned very shortly in a writing session in the summer of 1980. The album charted at #1 spot on the UK independent albums chart in 1981.
