The Matrix (Music From the Motion Picture) (Clear w/ Red & Blue Swirl Vinyl)
Regular price $50.00 Save $-50.00Every decade or so a science fiction film comes along that captures the Zeitgeist and simultaneously casts a searchlight into the murk of what's to come. Such a film was The Matrix. Released in 1999 to a public already grappling with huge technological change and subject to Y2K hysteria whipped up by the media, The Matrix wove such au courant tropes as Japanese animé, Hong Kong martial arts films, cyperpunk sci-fi, and hacker hero worship into a tale of druggy paranoia whose vision of a grim future marked with universal surveillance and pathological interconnectedness actually looks less paranoid by the day.
And its soundtrack was similarly forward-looking. Instead of offering the blues-based, heavy metal rock that might have populated the score had the movie been made a decade before, The Matrix tapped into the new, breakbeat electronic sounds making inroads into popular music. The result was a propulsive audio ride perfectly mated to the film's cinematographic "bullet time" innovations, a doom-laden, neck-snapping blend of stoner metal, hip hop, and electronica.
On the eve of the franchise's fourth installment, Real Gone Music reissues the equally ahead of its time original soundtrack to The Matrix as a colored vinyl 2LP-set with gatefold packaging featuring stills from the original film production.

I Told You I Was Freaky LP (IEX) Metallic-Purple
Regular price $25.98 Save $-25.98Flight of the Conchords' 2009 sophomore album is back on vinyl with this limited, colored-vinyl pressing! Metallic-purple vinyl.
Judging from the range displayed on their second album, I Told You I Was Freaky, Flight of the Conchords have yet to unearth a genre which can withstand their artistry. Unflinching in their lyrical stance, sophisticated with their arrangements, crafting melodies which always lodge firmly in the frontal lobe. Their rhymes are fearless, their thesauruses dog-eared. Only cool, confident specimens of manhood such as these could drop three-dollar vocabulary busters like "dungarees" and "pantaloons" while still mesmerizing the ladies with their undulating "Sugalumps." Vivid imagery? Check: The ardent "Angels" should spur listeners to think twice the next time they consider catching a snowflake on their tongues. Better still, the amorous odyssey of the album's zenith, "We're Both in Love with a Sexy Lady," unfolds before the listener's very ears in real time. Flight of the Conchords are making history, and You! Are! There!

Go (Music From The Motion Picture) (25th Anniversary)
Regular price $43.00 Save $-43.00Doug Liman's breakthrough film Swingers showed he had a real ear for music; for his next film, 1999's Go, he traded neo swing nostalgia for rave culture, but the beats-heavy score still took center stage. It's tale of a drug deal gone wrong dismissed by some as a Pulp Fiction rip-off when originally released, Go has become a bona-fide cult classic over the years, and it's kinetic soundtrack-composed of the most au courant artists and tracks (including the first new single in two years from No Doubt)-has always enjoyed a lofty reputation among film score cognoscenti. Unbreakable
Regular price $38.00 Save $-38.00Waxwork Records is proud to present the debut film score vinyl release to M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable (2000).
Unbreakable, about a security guard named David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who becomes the sole survivor of a train wreck, posed the question of what would happen if superheroes were real. At the insistence of a mysterious, rare-comic-book collector named Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), who suffers from a medical condition that makes his bones shatter on the slightest impact, Dunn comes to believe that he has super strength and is impervious to injury or illness. Not only that, he has the ability to see or sense the evil deeds of others simply by touching them.
The Unbreakable score, by James Newton Howard, was the second collaboration between Shyamalan and Howard, following their work together on The Sixth Sense. The Unbreakable score experience was unlike any the composer had had before. “Night sat there and storyboarded the whole movie for me,” Howard said. “I’ve never had a director do that for me. He wanted something that was very different, very distinctive, that immediately evoked the movie when people heard it.”
Howard and Shyamalan chose to simplify the score, and minimized the number of instruments (strings, trumpets and piano), with limited orchestrations. Some compositions were recorded in a converted church in London. “You could have recorded the same music in a studio in Los Angeles, and it would have been great, but there is something about the sound of that church studio,” Howard said. “It's definitely more misterioso.”
James Newton Howard is an American composer, conductor, and producer. He has scored more than 100 films and is the recipient of a Grammy Award, Emmy Award, and eight Academy Award nominations. His scores include The Fugitive, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Hunger Games film series.

Firestarter (Original Soundtrack) (Colored Vinyl, Yellow, White)
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00The horror master John Carpenter is back with his Halloween franchise
collaborators Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter for their infectious new soundtrack to the 2022 adaptation of Stephen King's Firestarter. This marks the first official soundtrack that the team has composed together outside of the Halloween franchise and their inspiration and evolution as a creative team is on full display. The film is a new take on the thriller examining a girl with extraordinary pyrokinetic powers and her fight to protect her family and herself from sinister forces that seek to capture and control her. The film releases theatrically on May 13th, 2022 and stars Zac Efron, Sydney Lemmon, Ryan Kiera, is directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil) and created by the producers of The Invisible Man. The story has become a classic and the intense nature of the film creates a canvas for a dynamic soundtrack. The Firestarter soundtrack utilizes some of the best elements of Carpenter's famous musical repertoire and charts exciting new territory. The tracks range from fist pumping sci-fi anthems to slow reverb drenched piano ballads and each utilizes a variety of sonic applications. Skulking beats, skittering synths, crushing guitars and an ever-lurking echo come together to create an album that is atmospheric and also deeply melodic, cohesive and eclectic. These three musicians are all working in the peak of their individual and collaborative creativity and this soundtrack further solidifies them as masters of the craft.
