Doug Liman's breakthrough film Swingers showed he had a real ear for music; for his next film, 1999's Go, he traded neo swing nostalgia for rave culture, but the beats-heavy score still took center stage. It's tale of a drug deal gone wrong dismissed by some as a Pulp Fiction rip-off when originally released, Go has become a bona-fide cult classic over the years, and it's kinetic soundtrack-composed of the most au courant artists and tracks (including the first new single in two years from No Doubt)-has always enjoyed a lofty reputation among film score cognoscenti. For this 25th anniversary elease, we've fashioned a gatefold jacket festooned with stills from the film to hold the two LPs, which we've pressed in "Blue Smoke" vinyl limited to 750 copies!

Waxwork Records is proud to release THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by David Wingo & Amman Abbasi. THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER is a 2023 supernatural horror movie directed by David Gordon Green. The film is the sixth installment in The Exorcist franchise and serves as a sequel to The Exorcist (1973).

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar^® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.

But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar^® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

ABOUT DAVID WINGO

David Wingo got his start composing music for films on David Gordon Green's debut feature, George Washington, and since that time has maintained a consistent working relationship with Green, scoring the majority of his films. In 2010 he scored Jeff Nichols' Take Shelter, and has since scored all of Nichols' films, including the forthcoming Bikeriders starring Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, and Jodie Comer. Wingo has transitioned into television over the last several years, providing the score for FX’s Mayans MC, Showtime's Kidding and HBO's Emmy Award-winning Barry, for which he received an Emmy Nomination in 2019 for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series. 

ABOUT AMMAN ABBASI

Amman Abbasi is a Pakistani-American writer-director, editor, and composer from Little Rock, Arkansas. Filmmaker Magazine listed him among the 25 New Faces of Independent Film in 2016. His film Dayveon premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, was an Official Selection of the 2017 Berlin Film Festival, and went on to get two Film Independent Spirit Award nominations in 2018, including in the coveted Someone to Watch category. As a music composer, Abbasi’s compositions have appeared in several commercials, films, and documentaries, and most recently he was a music consultant for Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills (2020). In 2008, he and his brother’s debut album, Something Like Nostalgia, topped the charts in Japan.

Waxwork Records is thrilled to present THE SANDMAN Original Soundtrack Music From The Netflix Series by David Buckley. Based on the beloved award-winning DC comics series written by Neil Gaiman, The Sandman is a rich, character-driven blend of myth and dark fantasy woven together over the course of ten epic chapters following Dream’s many adventures.

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

About the composer:

Born in England, David Buckley's first involvement with film music was as a cathedral choirboy performing on Peter Gabriel’s score for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. He continued his musical education at Cambridge University. In 2006, David moved to Los Angeles where he began collaborating with Harry Gregson-Williams on film scores, including Shrek The Third and Gone Baby Gone. He has written music for films including Wonder Woman, all the Fifty Shades movies, Big Eyes and American Hustle, and his music was featured in David O’Russell’s Joy. David was honored as a ‘Brit to Watch’ by BAFTA.

For television, David composed the music for the hit Scott Free/CBS drama series The Good Wife and continues to score the spin-off, now in its sixth season, The Good Fight (for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Title Music).

As well as film and TV, David has written the music for a number of games, including Batman Arkham Knight.

Buckley's soundtrack to THE SANDMAN is a lush and dynamic composition overflowing with analog synthesizers, full orchestra, sound design, and even usage of ancient instrumentation. It grants each character in the series their own theme, and effectively transports the listener to an otherworldly, dreamlike setting.

Having put out the soundtrack to the all-time great rom-com Sleepless in Seattle on vinyl, we HAD to release You've Got Mail, too! After all, the two films shared the same writer/director (Nora Ephron), co-stars (Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan), and even kinda the same plot with a little help from The Shop Around the Corner (except this time instead of a radio show it's an online chat room that brings the two lovebirds together, complete with hysterically out-of-date, dial-up email graphics). But most importantly, both movies boasted boffo soundtracks; like he did in Sleepless in Seattle, Jimmy Durante has the last word (with "You Made Me Love You)" but You've Got Mail also features three tunes by Harry Nilsson and songs by Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Bobby Darin, Roy Orbison, and more, with a nod to the more contemporary set with Sinead O'Connor and the Cranberries. Our release comes complete with an inner sleeve containing a ruby platter. An iconic soundtrack from an iconic film!

2006's The Devil Wears Prada remains one of the funniest and smartest comedies of this millennium. And the studio that made it, 20th Century Fox, knew it all along-they actually bought the film rights to Lauren Weisberger's novel before it was even published! Similarly, the soundtrack took the same, limitless expense account approach... what do you suppose they shelled out for the rights to Madonna's "Vogue," U2's "City of Blinding Lights," and Alanis Morisette's "Crazy?" The rest of the soundtrack is top shelf, or should we say haute couture, too, featuring indie-rock stalwarts Moby and Ray LaMontagne, funk/acid jazz legends Jamiroquai, and more dance-pop of the sort you'd be likely to hear while watching beautiful people slink down a catwalk. Mutant, in partnership with Lakeshore Records and Legendary Entertainment, is proud to present The Toxic Avenger - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, featuring a wildly eclectic score and original songs by composers Brooke and Will Blair. In this unhinged reimagining of Lloyd Kaufman's cult classic, the brothers capture the chaos, the silliness, and the triumphant heart of the original Troma trilogy. The guitar-drenched orchestral score careens from surfy crime-jazz and occult rock to Bossa Nova, classic superhero motifs, and an unhinged take on Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" (featured in the original Toxic Avenger) - complete with burps, farts, and the Prague Philharmonic. The pair also deliver original songs, including the nu-rap/slop-rock hit "(We Are) Crazy and Dangerous" from on-screen goth villains The Killer Nutz, their B-side "My Baby is an Axe," and the classic Doo Wop ode to young lovers "The Good Things" by fictional '50s group The Whoopsie Dews. Over 120 musicians in eight countries contributed to the soundtrack, including Medirecon. A generator recorded this 16-piece Kyiv-based string ensemble after Russian forces cut power to the city's power grid during the early days of the occupation. The year-long composing effort resulted in a soundtrack that's as fun, messy, and moving as the Troma films that inspired it. "The original Toxie soundtrack was such a bonkers mash-up of styles," says Will Blair. "Dancey-pop songs would be followed by punk rock, then go immediately into big orchestral pieces, followed by weird electro score - and it not only worked, it became part of the Troma experience. We trusted it would work with Macon's version of Toxie, and we're grateful he cut us loose to throw everything we had at it." Written and directed by the Blairs' older brother, Macon Blair, and starring Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon, The Toxic Avenger follows janitor Winston Gooze, who - after a freak toxic accident - mutates into an unlikely hero battling corporate overlords and corruption to save his son and his community. The album also comes complete with liner notes by writer/director Macon Blair as well as composers Brooke Blair and Will Blair, and is pressed on 140gm toxic black and green vinyl with glow-in-the-dark splatter and housed inside a silver mirrorboard jacket with glow-in-the-dark elements. IDLES and acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan) quickly formed a creative kinship, united by a deep mutual respect for each other's work. When Aronofsky began developing his latest film, Caught Stealing (starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz) he turned to IDLES, his favorite band, to shape the film's sonic identity. Waxwork Records is proud to present the debut film score vinyl release to M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable (2000).

Unbreakable, about a security guard named David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who becomes the sole survivor of a train wreck, posed the question of what would happen if superheroes were real. At the insistence of a mysterious, rare-comic-book collector named Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), who suffers from a medical condition that makes his bones shatter on the slightest impact, Dunn comes to believe that he has super strength and is impervious to injury or illness. Not only that, he has the ability to see or sense the evil deeds of others simply by touching them.

The Unbreakable score, by James Newton Howard, was the second collaboration between Shyamalan and Howard, following their work together on The Sixth Sense. The Unbreakable score experience was unlike any the composer had had before. “Night sat there and storyboarded the whole movie for me,” Howard said. “I’ve never had a director do that for me. He wanted something that was very different, very distinctive, that immediately evoked the movie when people heard it.”

Howard and Shyamalan chose to simplify the score, and minimized the number of instruments (strings, trumpets and piano), with limited orchestrations. Some compositions were recorded in a converted church in London. “You could have recorded the same music in a studio in Los Angeles, and it would have been great, but there is something about the sound of that church studio,” Howard said. “It's definitely more misterioso.”

James Newton Howard is an American composer, conductor, and producer. He has scored more than 100 films and is the recipient of a Grammy Award, Emmy Award, and eight Academy Award nominations. His scores include The Fugitive, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Hunger Games film series.

Ty Segall meets a new non-rock challenge head-on; soundtrack music for the documentary film Whirlybird. A variety of synth sounds, electric keyboards, drums, percussion and saxophone (and yeah, a few guitars) form a shifting impressionist counterpart, instrumental music that dialogues with and serves to frame the film’s compulsive themes and images.
