David Bowie Comes Into Own as a Singer-Songwriter on 1971's Diverse Hunky Dory: 180g Vinyl LP Touts Remastered Sound, Includes "Changes," "Life on Mars," "Oh! You Pretty Things"

David Bowie's Hunky Dory still sounds as invigorating, fresh, and kaleidoscopic in scope as it did upon original release more than five decades ago. Built from a six-song demo he had used to entice RCA to sign him and featuring the timeless songs "Changes" and "Life on Mars," Bowie's first album recorded with producer Ken Scott finds the musical chameleon back in the role of singer/songwriter. He pays tribute to his influences with the postmodern pop songs "Andy Warhol," "Song for Bob Dylan," and the Velvet Underground inspired "Queen Bitch." Almost immediately, Bowie followed the record up with the instant classic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. "Hunky Dory gave me a fabulous groundswell," Bowie told Uncut. "I guess it provided me, for the first time in my life, with an actual audience – I mean, people actually coming up to me and saying, 'Good album, good songs.' That hadn't happened to me before. It was like, 'Ah, I'm getting it, I'm finding my feet. I'm starting to communicate what I want to do."
