Natural Born Killers (A Soundtrack For An Oliver Stone Film) - Various Artists on 2LP

A hallucinatory satire on America's culture of violence and the tabloid media's encouragement of that culture for its own benefit, Oliver Stone's controversial 1994 film Natural Born Killers tells the story of two mass murderers who become cult heroes. Their fame is the result of exploitation by an amoral television tabloid talk-show journalist played by Robert Downey, Jr. The film mixes video, documentary film techniques, animation and rear-projection images to involve the viewer in both the action and the interior world of killers Mickey (Woody Harrelson) and Mallory Knox (Juliette Lewis).

Long before he composed Oscar and Grammy award winning scores for the likes of David Fincher's The Social Network, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, Trent Reznor produced the soundtrack to Natural Born Killers. In addition to songs written especially for the film like "Burn," the sprawling 27-track affair also includes the two NIN cuts "Something I Can Never Have" and "A Warm Place," plus material from a diverse array of artists like Leonard Cohen, L7, Cowboy Junkies, Bob Dylan, Duane Eddy, Patsy Cline, Dr. Dre and Tha Dogg Pound.

On his approach to compiling the soundtrack, Reznor told MTV: "I suggested to Oliver [Stone] to try to turn the soundtrack into a collage-of-sound, kind of the way the movie used music: make edits, add dialog, and make it something interesting, rather than a bunch of previously released music."

Continuing with its soundtrack reissue campaign UMe will be reissuing this title back on vinyl for the first time in years!
