The Nightmare Before Christmas (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack features 10 ghoulishly delightful songs and score by renowned composer/songwriter Danny Elfman, lead singer of the popular rock group Oingo Boingo. Embracing the traditional musical structure of 10 songs and underscore, Elfman creates a musical landscape in which the story narrative is wholly integrated into each musical number. Allowing the film's fantastic characters to come convincingly to life, the songs set into "stop-motion" the fanciful tale of Jack Skellington with haunting melodies, vivid imagery, and spectacular wordplay. Supported by an evocative and suspenseful underscore, The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack is a dazzling marriage of music and innovative technique.

Palomino
Regular price $36.00 Save $-36.00Hot on the heels of her recent 2022 Academy of Country Music Awards win for Entertainer of the Year, Miranda Lambert is set to release "Palomino," her ninth solo album, on April 29, 2022.
A line from the first song written for the album perhaps sums up the project as a whole best: “there’s always been a stranger in my soul / who loves a good goodbye and a good hello,” she sings in “Tourist.” On Palomino, her inner stranger travels lyrically from Fort Worth to the Mojave Desert; Battambang, Cambodia to Maine; the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield to the Rocky Mountains and beyond. In each destination and with every character met along the way, Lambert’s freewheeling trek is a work of unbridled freedom and self-discovery without painful introspection.
“The making of this record has been one of the most fun and creative experiences of my career,” reflects the woman who holds the title of most-awarded artist in ACM history. “Luke Dick, Natalie Hemby, and I went out to my farm in Tennessee in 2020 and started writing songs. We figured while we have time let’s get out to the country and see what happens. The first one we wrote was ‘Tourist’ and that set us on a path to create something with a bit of a theme. Since we couldn’t travel at the time, we decided to go on a journey through songs. I hope y’all are ready to travel with us wandering spirits and meet some cool characters with great stories.”
Lambert -- who is now the most-awarded artist in ACM history -- has already released the Jesse Frasure co-written single "If I Was A Cowboy" and the just-premiered, low-key, 70s rock-tinged "Strange" (featuring Dick and Hemby as writers) from the new project. "Palomino"'s other reported influences include acts like Little Feat, Bruce Hornsby, the Range and Emmylou Harris.
The album includes a cover of Mick Jagger's 1993 solo album title single "Wandering Spirit," plus an album track entitled "Music City Queen," which features backing vocals from pop icons the B-52s.

Bronco
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Bronco is the new album from country artist and songwriter Orville Peck. A consummate storyteller, the country rock inspired Bronco plays upon the horse theme so often found in Orville's work, but this time with an exploration of freedom, breaking free from that which binds us and all that is wild and untamed. Bronco builds upon and follows Peck's previous album Pony and EP Show Pony, which explored themes of love, loss and loneliness but advances the story arc in a bolder, newer and warmer trajectory. "This is my most impassioned and authentic album to date," says Peck. "I was inspired by country rock, 60s & 70s psychedelic, California and even bluegrass with everything being anchored in country. Bronco is all about being unrestrained and the culmination of a year of touring, writing in isolation and going through and ultimately emerging from a challenging personal time."

Criminal Minded (RSD Exclusive, Colored Vinyl, Silver)
Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00Traffic Entertainment Group and B-Boy Records are proud to present one of the most influential and original albums in music history: Criminal Minded by Boogie Down Productions. A true classic, Criminal Minded was included in Vibe Magazine's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th century. KRS-ONE's combination of street slang and Webster's dictionary knowledge backed by Scott LaRock's hard hitting, minimal beats helped set this album apart when it was originally released in 1986. With this now-classic debut album, BDP's hardcore styling's helped to redefine the New York rap music scene. Criminal Minded elevated the standards and proved that rap could be a dynamic and consciousness-raising medium. Since it's release, KRS-ONE has gone on to become one of the most prolific and critically-acclaimed artists in Hip Hop history.
Voyager (Opaque Purple)
Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00Voyager, the seventh LP from Current Joys, rattles with the live-wire feeling that's thrummed through all of Nick Rattigan's previous releases: quavering, scream-itself-hoarse vocals and self-interrogation via song. But here, that bristling, sentimental rock ‘n' roll cacophony is overlaid with a soundtrack orchestra guiding it along. It's an odyssey, a grand-sounding journey of self-discovery spread across sixteen tracks. Part ekphrasis, part personal, it's Rattigan learning new ways to understand his own feelings and identity while inspired by the highly-stylized, striking storytelling of filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock, Lars Von Trier, Terrence Malick, Agnès Varda, and Andrei Tarkovsky. Voyager is unlike anything Current Joys has released before.
On his new LP, Rattigan eschews lo-fi home recordings for a full band and recording sessions at Stinson Beach Studios. As a vocalist/drummer in his other band Surf Curse, Rattigan had finally opened up to the possibility of working in a professional studio: "I'd just been very stubborn in wanting to do it all my own way, but I guess I've kind of opened up the creative process to more people at this point," Rattigan explains. " And I think it yields better results."
Frequently Rattigan uses film as a jumping off point for songwriting. "Big Star" was written on tour after watching Adventureland, hoping to capture that specific endless youth energy of the soundtrack's Replacements and Big Star songs. "Amateur" is piano-heavy, a slow-build of tension, flitting with prettiness, while the creeping "Rebecca," named after the Hitchcock film before Rattigan had actually seen it, radiates a haunted, sinister presence; "Naked" feels almost unhinged, while "American Honey" is a longing, mellowed lament. The title track, "Voyager pt. 2," holds a sparse, near-funereal starkness, as well as the album's thesis: I'm a voyager in my mind, before the Spielberg-esque strings swell.

Some Great Reward (Import)
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Icky Thump
Regular price $36.00 Save $-36.00While revealing the band's roots in American folk music, the White Stripes' final album Icky Thump (2007) is an explosive, revolutionary assault that brings together garage rock, every blues style of the past 100 years, nouveau, flamenco, Jack White's fastest guitar solo ever recorded, hard country, speed metal, a slide-guitar epic, surf music, spoken word and even bagpipes. Truly a modern rock and roll masterpiece, the eclectic feel of 2005's Get Behind Me Satan remains, but is less obvious; interestingly, out of all the band's previous work, Icky Thump's brash and confessional songs most closely resemble the group's underground effort De Stijl.
The acoustic blues and carefully crafted wordplay of "300 MPH Torrential Outpour Blues" harken back to "Sister, Do You Know My Name." Meanwhile, "Rag & Bone" is a cute, ragamuffin cousin of "Let's Build a Home" and casts Jack and Meg as enterprising garbage-pickers; the sly grin in Jack's voice is palpable. And, while Get Behind Me Satan was heavy on pianos, Icky Thump is just plain heavy, dominated by primal, stomping rock that feels like it's been caged for a very long time. Jack's guitars are back in a big way here as well.
Once again, the White Stripes defied expectations, and their return to rock wasn't necessarily a return to the kind of rock they mastered on Elephant.
