Modern Baseball was formed in 2011 by friends and guitarists Jacob Ewald and Brendan Lukens, who were soon joined by Ian Farmer on bass and Sean Huber on drums. The band self-released their first EP The Nameless Ranger in 2011 while still in high school. Shortly after the members relocated to Philadelphia to attend college and quickly gained a strong following in the Philadelphia music community, teaming up with locals Marietta to release the Couples Therapy split in the spring of 2012. Modern Baseball released their debut full-length Sports later that year on Lame-O Records, which they self-recorded and produced.

After spending the summer of 2013 touring heavily across the US, the band headed into Studio A in Philadelphia to self-record You're Going to Miss It All. Released in July 1971, it is widely regarded as the foundation of doom metal, stoner rock, and sludge metal. It was certified double platinum after having sold over 2 million copies. Master of Reality was Black Sabbath's first and only top 10 album in the US until 13 forty-two years later. Black Sabbath was formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist and main songwriter Tony Iommi, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward. Black Sabbath is often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music. The band helped define the genre with a clutch of groundbreaking albums in the '70s. They have sold over 70 million records worldwide. A passion to create uncommonly expressive rock and roll fueled Jeremy Enigk (guitar/vocals), Dan Hoerner (guitar/vocals), William Goldsmith (drums), and Nate Mendel (bass) from the earliest incarnations of Sunny Day Real Estate. It was quickly clear they’d all stumbled upon something new and exciting. Enigk’s yearning, high-register voice was a direct contrast to Hoerner’s primal delivery, imbuing the music with a previously unrealized level of emotion, and when Mendel returned from tour, it was decided Sunny Day would henceforth be a quartet, with Enigk on lead vocals.

At the time, grunge had turned Seattle into the epicenter of the music industry, making worldwide superstars out of hometown heroes Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains. But Sunny Day forged its own path, deriving a unique sound from its members’ collective talents. “It was guys that played hardcore experimenting with actually writing songs,” Goldsmith recalls of the band’s early days. “Hardcore is really fast and out of control. There was still songwriting and arranging, but this was a whole new thing, learning how to leave space. We had these melodies that were kind of triumphant; they matched what we were feeling.”

In May 1993, Sunny Day played just its second show ever at Seattle’s Crocodile Café, before a sparse crowd that just happened to include Sub Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman. He left blown away and determined to sign the band to his label, which he did within a matter of weeks. “The thing that was so emotionally engaging about the music was that the songs were so beautiful and evocative,” he says. “It was a riveting experience.”

Poneman enlisted producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Smashing Pumpkins) to produce Sunny Day’s Sub Pop debut, which the band recorded at his Idful Studios in Chicago at the end of its maiden North American tour. Diary was released on May 10, 1994 and, despite substantial rock radio airplay for “Seven” and “In Circles,” failed to appear on any Billboard chart. The band wrapped itself in mystery, granting only one interview (to British journalist Everett True) and distributing a single publicity photo. The critical reception was generally positive (“poignant and painfully revealing,” said CMJ; “a stark, blinding ray of sunshine,” offered Kerrang!). But it proved a remarkably consistent seller, eventually exceeding 230,000 units to make it Sub Pop’s seventh-biggest release of all time.
 
Sub Pop Records has reissued both Diary and the band’s second full-length album, commonly known as LP2 (or “The Pink Album” for its entirely pink cover). Both re-mastered albums include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes.

Van Halen set quite a precedent with its self-titled 1978 debut, one of the most landscape-shifting albums ever released. How does a band follow something like that? By making a record that's even better. And hard rock tour de force Van Halen II surely fits the bill. Granted, by the time this sophomore set appeared in late 1979, the world had already been introduced to Eddie Van Halen's pyrotechnic guitar skills and trick bag of jaw-dropping solos. And everyone knew about David Lee Roth's flamboyant singing, oversexed machismo, and vaudeville antics.

But the quartet ups the quotient level throughout the mighty Van Halen II, which swaggers to a flawless batch of songs and phenomenal playing. There's not a weak moment or note here. Moreover, as Eddie consistently delivers searing fills, acrobatic leads, and gravity-defying phrasings, Roth steps it up a notch, inserting himself in the role of the come-hither vocalist whose self-aware humor balances his glammed-up, spandex-clad, riser-leaping persona.

Once again proving themselves deft with their choice of covers (the lead-off "You're No Good"), Van Halen turns up the heat throughout, celebrating cheap and carefree sleaze, booze-soaked good times, and yes, the band's perennial favorite subject, women. Minor Threat was a compilation album by the American hardcore punk band Minor Threat. It was released in March 1984 through Dischord Records. The compilation consisted of the group's first two extended plays, Minor Threat (originally released June 1981) and In My Eyes (originally released December 1981). The 1984 Minor Threat LP featured the same cover as the 1981 Minor Theat EP, depicting vocalist Ian MacKaye's younger brother Alec (Untouchables, The Faith). The image has been imitated by punk bands such as Rancid on their album... And Out Come the Wolves and in the Major Threat ad campaign by Nike.

With synthesizers and mind-numbing excess on the rise, The Smiths took the road less traveled, challenging listeners with outspoken lyrics and taunting guitars. Since their inception in the metal heartland and rock stronghold of Cleveland, Ohio, Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails have been pioneers in their field. Broadly categorized in the early days as an industrial rock band they've stuck to first principles while shifting their focus with each successive album and achieved a level of success based on a fanatical following that makes a mockery of any idea they were ever cut out to be a cult act. NIN's sales have exceeded 11 million in the U.S. alone and over 30 million worldwide.

Fusing elements of industrial gothic synthpop and distorted dance grooves Reznor worked closely with British specialists Adrian Sherwood and Flood on triple platinum 1989 debut Pretty Hate Machine but insisted on maintaining a framework of riffs and hooks that shone a light on new wave influences. Significant tracks "Down on It," "Head Like a Hole" and "Sin" piqued interest Stateside but especially in the U.K. and Reznor found himself as a spokesman for a new genre of American post-rock.

Platinum 1992 EP Broken, once again produced by Reznor and Flood, was one of the most eagerly awaited follow-ups in modern rock history. Displaying a much heavier sound, "Wish" won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 1993. This definitive version of Broken, meticulously prepared by Trent Reznor and NIN art director John Crawford, was remastered in 2016 and comes pressed on 180g 12" vinyl with updated artwork and an accompanying 7" with the Adam and the Ants cover "Such" and Pigface cover "Physical."

A classic head-out-to-the highway anthem ("Riding on the Wind"), a racing proto-thrash banger ("Screaming for Vengeance"), and a scorching exorcism ("Devil's Child") function as the metal-hued bolts that hold the foundations of this Top 20-charting benchmark in place. Perhaps more so here than on any other record, Priest spit-shines hooks and collusive six-string harmonic leads to perfection, giving listeners yin-yang doses of pain and pleasure, sweet and bitter. 0th Anniversary Colored 180g Vinyl LP Reissue of 2013 Grammy Award-Winning Album of the Year with Alternate ArtworkMumford & Sons offer up a 10th anniversary colored 180g vinyl LP reissue of their celebrated second album Babel! The anniversary edition features a variation of the photography originally featured on Babel, shot on location in West London by long-standing collaborator, the photographer Marcus Haney.

Babel was originally released in Autumn 2012, topping the charts on both sides of the Atlantic in September 2012 for the first time, as the band's profile soared right across the globe. It was first introduced in August of that year with lead single, "I Will Wait," as the band continued a sold-out headline tour of the US. The record has since sold millions of copies worldwide (going 4 x platinum in both the US and UK alone). Babel won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2013, with Mumford & Sons taking home the British Group award at the 2013 BRIT Awards. In addition, Babel won the Juno Award for International Album of the Year and was also included in Q Magazine's list of the 50 Greatest Albums of 2012.

Babel followed the word-of-mouth success of the band's debut album, Sigh No More, which debuted in October 2009 and slowly but surely sent Mumford & Sons stratospheric. Babel found the band stick close to the formula that had brought them such success, but the songs were bigger, bolder, and epic in scale. 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of The Cult's seminal album SONIC TEMPLE. On September 13th, Beggars Arkive will reissue the album. Now cut onto two pieces of black vinyl, the audio is improved and contains 16 tracks total, which comprise the original album plus 6 B-sides. In addition to the reissue, a box set and 5-CD set are also being released. Originally released in 1989, Sonic Temple proved to be a pivotal moment for both band and the wider rock scene. Produced by the legendary Bob Rock, Sonic Temple had four chart-topping singles; "Fire Woman", "Edie (Ciao Baby)", "Sun King" and "Sweet Soul Sister". In a recent interview about the album, Ian Astbury explained how the band brought together hard rock and indie rock to create the unique, game-changing sounds on Sonic Temple. "We wanted to retain our core DNA as we went deeper into psych and hard rock influences. It was a complete immersion for me into art, film, music, poetry and literature, weaving those influences into what was to become Sonic Temple. The band was becoming more popular. We were in uncharted waters. Most of the bands we had come up with had split up or fallen off. We were accelerating. There was no real time to breathe. We were forming new allegiances and breaking the glass ceiling of 'the indie outsider.'" The album catapulted The Cult into superstar status and remains their most commercially successful release. It has sold over 1.5 million copies in the US alone, and was declared platinum in 1990. It made it to #10 on the Billboard charts, and the above mentioned songs are all rock-radio staples to this day. The Cult continues to record and tour and they have released six albums since Sonic Temple, the most recent being Hidden City in 2016. They've been spending 2019 celebrating this album by performing all over the world on a tour they've billed as A Sonic Temple, paying homage to the album.
