Shake Your Money Maker (2020 Remaster)
Regular price $32.00 Save $-32.0030th Anniversary Vinyl LP Reissue with 2020 Remastered Audio!
1990's Shake Your Money Maker is the triple platinum debut album from The Black Crowes and the brothers Robinson named after Elmore James' classic blues number of the same name. Issued on Rick Rubin's Def American Recordings and produced by George Drakoulias, the blistering 10-song throwback is awash in vocal swagger and guitar hooks. One doesn't have to listen hard to pick up the breadcrumb trail of influences ranging from 60s and 70s groups like Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, the Allman Brothers, to Faces and the Doobie Brothers. Picking up where their predecessors left off, the Crowes were equally adept at blending rock, soul, country and gospel into something that felt new and electric.
With swagger to spare, the very first track opens the album as a declaration and a promise to rock "Twice As Hard." From the screeching sounds of a car crash on "Thick N' Thin" to Rich Robinson's wondrous dexterity on "Struttin Blues," the whole album has that lighting in a bottle feeling and the raw energy of a live band who can't be contained. But the real success of the album relied upon a pair of No.1 mainstream rock singles, "She Talks to Angels" and "Hard To Handle," which reached the top spot on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart and No.26 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Shake Your Money Maker was evidence of a band that was mature beyond their years and primed to take their place in rock history rather than just study it. Original album remastered in 2020.

Puberty 2
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00Ask Mitski Miyawaki about happiness and she'll warn you: "Happiness fucks you." It's a lesson that's been writ large into the New Yorker's gritty, outsider-indie for years, but never so powerfully as on her newest album, Puberty 2. "Happiness is up, sadness is down, but one's almost more destructive than the other," she says. "When you realize you can't have one without the other, it's possible to spend periods of happiness just waiting for that other wave." On Puberty 2, that tension is palpable: a both beautiful and brutal romantic hinterland, in which one of America's new voices hits a brave new stride.

The Joshua Tree
Regular price $45.00 Save $-45.002017 sees U2's seminal album, The Joshua Tree, turn thirty years young. Released on Island Records in March of 1987, the album is considered by many to be the turning point at which the iconic band honed their trademark, stadium-filling sound. Released to universal acclaim and featuring the hit singles "With Or Without You," "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Where The Streets Have No Name," The Joshua Tree shot to No. 1 around the world, selling in excess of 25 million copies and catapulting Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr from heroes to superstars.
The Grammy award winning album was an instant classic: critics loved that U2 were drawing inspiration from the USA to develop the European sounds they'd explored on 1984's The Unforgettable Fire. The subject material ranges from commentary on America's wealth and hypocrisy to heroin addiction, romantic despair, the loss of a friend, political and economic oppression and totalitarian brutality. In a decade associated with financial success – U2 were a band that had something to say.
"Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years," says Bono. "It's quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation...all the greats."

Highway to Hell
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00AC/DC Highway To Hell on LP!
Mastered From the Original Tapes: Absolutely Incredible Sonics! A Guitar-Driven Landmark!
Given that Bon Scott's hard-partying, sex-booze-and-brawls lifestyle tragically caught up with him some six months after Highway to Hell was released, the album-opening title track — one of hard rock's all-time classics — now takes on an eerie resonance. It's not just a snotty, nihilistic party anthem, but a moment of unrepentant self-recognition from a rowdy ruffian who, for better or worse, exulted in what he was. The rest of the songs on Highway to Hell don't lend themselves to any deep readings, but of course, that's not the point.
Highway to Hell distills all the virtues of AC/DC's signature minimalism — loud, simple, pounding riffs, and grooving backbeats — into the tightest batch of songs the group had written to that point, barreling along at a take-no-prisoners rate and producing a handful of gems along the way. Highway to Hell is not only a fitting epitaph for Scott, it's also a classic rock & roll album and quite possibly the best guitar-driven record in history.

Foo Fighters
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Foo Fighters is the debut studio album by American alternative rock band Foo Fighters, released on July 4, 1995, by Capitol Records through Dave Grohl's label Roswell. Grohl wrote and recorded the entire album himself - with the exception of a guest guitar spot by Greg Dulli - with the assistance of producer Barrett Jones at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. Grohl claimed he recorded the album just for fun, describing it as a cathartic experience to recover from the death of his Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain.
Foo Fighters is an American rock band, formed in Seattle in 1994. It was founded by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl as a one-man project following the death of Kurt Cobain and the resulting dissolution of his previous band. The group got it's name from the UFOs and various aerial phenomena that were reported by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II, which were known collectively as foo fighters.

Shortly after the album was released, the band began touring the world, first with Bon Jovi on its New Jersey Syndicate Tour, and later with Aerosmith during the band's tour for the album Pump. Boston
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Boston was in the right place at the right time as an alternative to the disco and nascent punk-rock movements of 1976. Certified Gold one month after appearing on the Billboard albums chart, and platinum one month later, the band's self-titled debut spent a solid 2 1/2 years on the list producing the rock radio fixtures "More Than A Feeling," "Long Time," and "Peace Of Mind" along the way. From the sparkling opening acoustic passage to "More Than a Feeling" through the rollicking country-inspired ramble that finishes the closing "Let Me Take You Home Tonight," the now 17x platinum release unspools as a revelatory, anthemic, acoustic-electric yin-yang hybrid of power pop, hard rock, and classically influenced music. Brad Delp's leather-lung vocals, Tom Scholz's crunchy riffs, and their colleagues assured playing teem with romance, fantasy, possibility, sweetness, imagination, sentimentality, and happiness. Contagious in its appeal, it is the rare album that has no obvious peers – and an effort in which everything, from the studio approach to the intricate details to the climactic architecture of the arrangements, synchronizes in epic fashion.

Lonerism
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00Sonically Lonerism is a quantum leap forward for Tame Impala, the seeds of which were sown shortly after the mixing of Innerspeaker had been completed. Again recorded and produced almost entirely by Kevin Parker in studios, planes, hotels and homes around the world, and mixed by the trailblazing Dave Fridmann, it's a sound not so much reinvented as completely redrafted and stretched way, way out.
Lonerism's most apparent advance is in it's synthesizers, there's swathes of them cutting melancosmic shapes across almost every track. There's still the searing guitar lines, bouldering drums, free bass and of course Parker's voice, but now there's heavily mournful pads and sunshine lead lines from an army of analogue explorers in the mix. The songwriting is as joyously screwy as ever. Songs swerve when you expect them to duck, and turn themselves inside out when you expect them to straighten out, there's so many melodic curveballs it's dizzying. And it's a heady, heady record for all the loners, lyrically sweet and casual, relaxed but at times deadly serious, and oddly, deeply amorous.
"Be Above It" applies a cleansing pressure hose to the brain, and "Endors Toi" plunges you into a deep sleep of ripping guitar riff dreams. "Music To Walk Home By" is as it says on the tin, announcing its arrival at the front gate with the kind of ceremonious, shredding guitar riff that makes home seem like a good place to be.
"Keep On Lying" intentionally drifts in and out as if in the middle of a wandering jam at the end of the earth, "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" is as close as Tame Impala will ever come to a top down cruising anthem, albeit one from a cracked reality and soaked in a deep, solo melancholy. Elephant doesn't hide it's rollicking, outerspace glam strut, while "Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control" arguably boils the essence of Lonerism into a dense, ecstatic brew of utopian proportions.
Lonerism is one loner standing staring at an expansive moonscape of psychedelic song, but it's so unpretentiously evocative and transcendental it's for everyone to enjoy. See you there. Lonerism, Tame Impala's second album, will be released on Modular Recordings.

Graceland-25th Anniversary
Regular price $31.00 Save $-31.00Paul Simon Graceland: 25th Anniversary Edition on 180g Vinyl LP + Poster + Download with Bonus Tracks
Eclectic Multi-Grammy-Winning Effort Remastered on 180g Vinyl and Pressed at RTI for Audiophile Sound: Graceland Forever Changed the Relationship Between Pop and World Music
With Graceland, Paul Simon hit on the idea of combining his always perceptive songwriting with the little-heard mbaqanga music of South Africa, creating a fascinating hybrid that re-enchanted his old audience and earned him a new one. It is true that the South African angle (including its controversial aspect during the apartheid days) was a powerful marketing tool and that the catchy music succeeded in presenting listeners with that magical combination: something they'd never heard before that nevertheless sounded familiar.
As eclectic as any record Simon had made, it also delved into zydeco and conjunto-flavored rock & roll while marking a surprising new lyrical approach (presaged on some songs on Hearts and Bones); for the most part, Simon abandoned a linear, narrative approach to his words, instead drawing highly poetic ("Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes"), abstract ("The Boy in the Bubble"), and satiric ("I Know What I Know") portraits of modern life, often charged by striking images and turns of phrase torn from the headlines or overheard in contemporary speech.
An enormously successful record, Graceland became the standard against which subsequent musical experiments by major artists were measured and continues to provide rewards to its listeners and remains a pivotal listening experience for writers, artists and fans.
The universal appeal of the music of Graceland proved more powerful and enduring than the political hotbed attending its creation. In 1986, the album sold 14 million copies worldwide, and received universal praise from critics around the globe. Paul Simon and the members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed on Saturday Night Live and appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone.
By January of 1987, "You Can Call Me Al" was everywhere and Graceland won 'Album of the Year' at the Grammy Awards in 1987. Then, in an unprecedented carryover, the album garnered the Grammy for 'Song of the Year' with its title track in 1988. The album generated three hit singles and kept Simon and the Graceland tour on the road for five years.
This audiophile edition of Graceland has been remastered on 180g 12" vinyl and includes an art-quality collectible poster and a download card with the full album plus three bonus tracks.
"In many ways, Graceland was the most extraordinary experience in my entire career," notes Simon. "The insight into rhythm was the great gift that I received from making the trip to South Africa, and collaborating with African musicians."
"This lacquer cut processed and pressed at RTI on 180 gram vinyl sounds dramatically superior to the original in every way. The overall tonal balance is far superior. The low bass is as powerful as on the original but much better controlled. If the opening drum thwacks on 'Boy In the Bubble,' don't sound deep, ultra-tight and tuneful, blame your system, not the record. You are guaranteed to hear heretofore hidden musical details and parts that on the original slipped through the musical cracks. This reissue has an overall tonal richness and clarity as well as dynamic impact only hinted at on the original."
