The Smiths
Regular price $28.98 Save $-28.98With synthesizers and mind-numbing excess on the rise, The Smiths took the road less traveled, challenging listeners with outspoken lyrics and taunting guitars. With their eponymous 1984 debut, The Smiths began their tenure as the definitive British indie rock band as well as the torchbearers of a new musical era. Johnny Marr's inventive songwriting and Morrissey's unconventional croon made for an evocative sound that was both innovative and timeless. Songs about homosexuality ("Hand in Glove") and child molestation and murder ("Suffer Little Children") enshrouded the band in controversy and cult-like devotion, both of which would only grow from here.

Pisces Iscariot [Limit One Per Customer]
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00A collection of odds and orphans from the dusky realms of Pumpkinland is how Pumpkins founding member Billy Corgan describes Pisces Iscariot in the liner notes penned by David Wild. Pisces Iscariot was the little mix tape that went platinum, writes Wild. This unlikely smash album that some came to mistake for the Pumpkins' third studio effort even yielded a hit single another wonderfully odd moment in the landslide that was the intense early success story of Smashing Pumpkins. Babel (Colored Vinyl, Cream, Anniversary Edition)
Regular price $30.98 Save $-30.980th Anniversary Colored 180g Vinyl LP Reissue of 2013 Grammy Award-Winning Album of the Year with Alternate ArtworkMumford & Sons offer up a 10th anniversary colored 180g vinyl LP reissue of their celebrated second album Babel! The anniversary edition features a variation of the photography originally featured on Babel, shot on location in West London by long-standing collaborator, the photographer Marcus Haney.
Babel was originally released in Autumn 2012, topping the charts on both sides of the Atlantic in September 2012 for the first time, as the band's profile soared right across the globe. It was first introduced in August of that year with lead single, "I Will Wait," as the band continued a sold-out headline tour of the US. The record has since sold millions of copies worldwide (going 4 x platinum in both the US and UK alone). Babel won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2013, with Mumford & Sons taking home the British Group award at the 2013 BRIT Awards. In addition, Babel won the Juno Award for International Album of the Year and was also included in Q Magazine's list of the 50 Greatest Albums of 2012.
Babel followed the word-of-mouth success of the band's debut album, Sigh No More, which debuted in October 2009 and slowly but surely sent Mumford & Sons stratospheric. Babel found the band stick close to the formula that had brought them such success, but the songs were bigger, bolder, and epic in scale. It was the fastest selling record of 2012 in the UK, and the second fastest record of the year in the US, behind only Taylor Swift's Red. Babel spawned some of Mumford & Sons' biggest hits to date including "I Will Wait," "Lover of the Light," and "Hopeless Wanderer."

Better Oblivion Community Center
Regular price $24.98 Save $-24.98Black Vinyl. Better Oblivion Community Center is a brand new band comprising the formidable talents of Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst, two of the most lauded American songwriters of the past several years. Written and recorded in Los Angeles during the summer of 2018, their self-titled debut album will be released on Dead Oceans in early 2019. The pair first collaborated on Bridgers' 2017 single, "Would You Rather", taken from her acclaimed debut album Stranger In The Alps. They teamed up again for a recording of Oberst's "LAX" in the fall of 2018. Co-produced by Bridgers, Oberst and long time Oberst/Bright Eyes collaborator Andy LeMaster, Better Oblivion Community Center features the work of several talented friends: Yeah Yeah Yeahs' guitarist Nick Zinner appears on two tracks (first single "Dylan Thomas" and "Dominoes") while Carla Azur (Autolux, Jack White) plays drums on half of the album. Dawes' rhythm section Wylie Gelber and Griffin Goldsmith appear on the other half. Songwriter Christian Lee Hutson contributes guitar and Anna Butterss provides bass. Blue Rev (Marbled Blue Vinyl)
Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00Limited blue colored vinyl LP pressing. Alvvays' third album, the nervy joyride that is the compulsively lovable Blue Rev, doesn't simply reassert what's always been great about Alvvays but instead reimagines it. They have, in part and sum, never been better. There are newly aggressive moments here-the gleeful and snarling guitar solo at the heart of opener "Pharmacist," or the explosive cacophony near the middle of "Many Mirrors." And there are some purely beautiful spans, too-the church- organ fantasia of "Fourth Figure," or the blue-skies bridge of "Belinda Says." But the power and magic of Blue Rev stems from Alvvays' ability to bridge ostensible binaries, to fuse elements that seem antithetical in single songs-cynicism and empathy, anger and play, clatter and melody, the soft and the steely. The luminous poser kiss-off of "Velveteen," the lovelorn confusion of "Tile by Tile," the panicked but somehow reassuring rush of "After the Earthquake."

Speaking about, "Alone," the opening track on the album, Robert Smith says, "It's the track that unlocked the record; as soon as we had that piece of music recorded, I knew it was the opening song and I felt the whole album come into focus... that was the moment when I knew the song - and the album - were real." Robert Smith created the sleeve concept and Andy Vella, a longtime Cure collaborator, handled the album's art and design. The cover art features 'Bagatelle,' a 1975 sculpture by Janez Pirnat.

Tidal is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Fiona Apple, released in the United States on July 23, 1996, by Work Records and Columbia Records (Sony Music).. according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was certified 3x platinum by the RIAA in December 1997. Tidal produced six singles: "Shadowboxer", "Slow Like Honey", "Sleep to Dream", "The First Taste", "Criminal" and "Never Is a Promise". "Criminal", the album's most popular single, won a 1998 Grammy Award for "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance" and was named the single of 1997 in a poll of Rolling Stone readers. The music video for "The First Taste" never aired in the U.S. The 2005 album I've Got My Own Hell to Raise by Bettye LaVette is titled after a lyric in "Sleep to Dream", and includes a cover of that song. The album was very well received upon release and continues to be highly regarded. In 2008, Entertainment Weekly named Tidal the 20th Best Album of the last 25 years (1983-2008). In 2010, Rolling Stone placed it among the greatest albums of the 1990s, at number 83. A year later, Slant Magazine placed it at number 74. The album is featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. TIDAL contains multimedia photos, lyrics, a biography and the "Shadowboxer" video, all of which are playable on a CD-ROM drive. Personnel: Fiona Apple (vocals, piano, Optigon); Jon Brion (guitar, harp, tack piano, Chamberlin, dulcitone, Optigon, vibraphone, marimba); Rob Laufer (guitar); Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar); Ralph Morrison, Claudia Parducci (violin); Evan Wilson (viola); Larry Corbett (cello); Patrick Warren (piano, Chamberlin); Dan Rothchild, Greg Richling, Sara Lee (bass); Matt Chamberlain, Danny Frankel (drums, percussion); George Black (drum programming); Amber Maggart (background vocals). Recorded at Sony Music Studios, Ocean Way Recorders and 4th Street Recording, Los Angeles, California. Fiona Apple was nominated for the 1998 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. "Criminal" won the 1998 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and was nominated for the 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Song. Judging from the songs that litter her debut, this 18-year-old singer-songwriter is at odds with every situation in which she finds herself.

Seven Songs
Regular price $23.98 Save $-23.98Fugazi, also officially referred to as 7 Songs, is the first, self-titled EP by the American post-hardcore band of the same name. Unlike all other Fugazi releases, Guy Picciotto did not contribute guitar to this record; all guitar was performed by Ian MacKaye. It was originally recorded in June 1988 and released in November 1988 on vinyl and again in 1989 on the compilation release 13 Songs along with the following EP Margin Walker. The photo used for the album cover was taken on June 30th, 1988 at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. The release features "Waiting Room" which is often seen as the band's most well-known song (later covered by artists as diverse as Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Wildhearts), notorious for "the attention-getting drop into silence that occurs at the 22-second mark" as well as for it's "relentless ska/reggae-inflected drive", and "Suggestion", a "Meters-meets-Ruts thrust."

Blonde On Blonde
Regular price $36.98 Save $-36.98Blonde on Blonde: A double album that transcends time, defies space, suspends reality, and looks through the human soul and tells the listener characteristics about themselves they didn't know. Forever prized for a unique sound, Blonde on Blonde is to music, production, prose, and performance as what hydrogen is to water. The secret to its inimitable aural character partially stems from Dylan's request in Nashville to producer Bob Johnston to remove the baffles from the studio room, allowing the musicians to interact as well as the music to assume a more organic quality that drifts from one microphone to another.
The story of Blonde on Blonde is almost as compelling as the music within. Dylan, frustrated with how initial attempts fared in New York, relocating to Tennessee and pairing with Nashville's top session players as well as members of what would become the Band, feverishly chasing perfectionism while also arriving at an on-the-fly feel that remains a reference point for recorded music. The Bard sweated over lyrics, demanded his band get the exact sounds he heard in his head, and limited most takes to a handful at most. A majority of songs were recorded long after midnight, the post-A.M. vibe reflected in the nocturnal aura, woozy optimism, inversion of intervals, and spiritual soulfulness of the playing.
As for the tunes? Chapters of books and lengthy theses are dedicated to the sheer conscious-altering power, mythical weight, character cast, and convention-obscuring magnetism of the lyrics – to say nothing of the sophisticated albeit pure playing within, as arrangements touch upon gospel, R&B, pop, traditional and contemporary blues, vaudeville, folk, and more. Then there's Dylan's inventive phrasing, his manipulation of pitch and locution, helping the narratives to take on epic, inchoate, and cryptic meanings that continue to be deciphered to this day. Punch lines occur as frequently as romantic declarations, all delivered with salient references, traditional parallels, and elusive interpretations on par with those of Shakespeare.
