Following 2018's A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, The 1975's much-anticipated fourth studio effort, Notes on a Conditional Form is the second of two albums from the British band's third release cycle, Music for Cars. Over the past six months, the band has dropped a selection of sonically-diverse singles from Notes on a Conditional Form. Released in July of 2019, "The 1975" features a spoken-word recording from Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg, underscored by instrumentals. On the heels of "The 1975" came the punchy, punk-infused "People," while "Frail State Of Mind," which frontman Matty Healy described as a song about anxiety, followed in October. The two most recent singles off the album included the shoegazey "Me & You Together Song," and the twangy, "The Birthday Party."

"Every time I do a 1975 record, I kind of just go through my catalogue of music, the mental rolodex," says Healy. "And I think that Notes is an interesting record, because it has our most aggressive moments and our most tranquil moments, and they're quite harshly lined up against each other. I don't have a playlist of one type of music, so I don't consume music like that, and when I'm inspired it'll never happen twice in one genre."

On Notes On A Conditional Form, the band's family has grown to encompass new collaborators too, including actor Timothy Healy, Matty's father. "Don't Worry" was written by Healy senior when Matty was 11 and was dusted down and recorded by the band for NOACF. Elsewhere, FKA twigs and Phoebe Bridgers lend their vocals as backing textures and a duet from the latter. "It became such a personal record that there were no rules anymore," adds Healy. "Anybody who had breached the intimacy of the studio was inherently part of the record already. With Phoebe, I just felt like I hadn't loved a female vocal like hers in like a decade – I was obsessed with her record."

2002 Remix Album

Raising the game on remix albums, 2002's Reanimation completely revamps tracks from Linkin Park's 2001 best selling album, Hybrid Theory, each of which are given new identities sonically distilled for the listener to discover. From the band's abrasive guitar work to their turntable acrobatics, Reanimation includes fresh reinterpretations of favorites "Points of Authority," "In The End," "Crawling" and "One Step Closer." Linkin Park recruited a host of underground hip-hop pioneers whom guest-appear on Reanimation including Alchemist, Chali 2NA, Pharoahe Monch, Evidence and DJ Babu (Dilated Peoples), and Aceyalone. Staind's Aaron Lewis performs a solemn and emotionally charged duet with vocalist Chester Bennington on "Crawling" adding atmospheric violins and cello.

Overwrought and undeniable, Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell remains both one of rock's biggest - and least likely - hit albums. The by-product of a partnership between beefy singer Marvin Lee "Meat Loaf" Aday and fellow journeyman/National Lampoon Road Show cast member Jim Steinman, Bat out of Hell met 1977's vaunted Year of Punk with a blast of neo-operatic, Wagnerian-scaled bombast that was as reactionary as anything the spiked set and their supporters could possibly imagine - 40 million units worth, and counting.

Bat Out of Hell seems to have thrived on the same formula that's made Andrew Lloyd Webber a multi-millionaire knight: if you do kitsch, do it big. And what could be more kitschy and emblematic of the '70s than the ubiquitous "classic rock" (an overused adjective that applies all too well here) of "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" or the breathless nookie-quest, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," replete with Phil Rizzuto calling the play-by-play?

From 2 To 3 is the new album from Peach Pit. This new album draws inspiration from 60s-70s rock and folk music, with the band citing Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Eagles, Glen Campbell, and George Harrison as their biggest influences.

If friendship had a sound, it would be Peach Pit. Originally released in 1995, Astro-Creep: 2000 is the equally as impressive follow-up to White Zombie's breakthrough 1992 album La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1 and final studio offering before Rob Zombie went on to a solo career. Awash in futuristic themes thus the title and incorporating multiple programming techniques, samples, film dialogue and other effects with reckless abandon, Astro-Creep: 2000 also boasts a more industrial metal sound than its groove metal dominated predecessor, often referred to as "white-trash-on-acid metal." Not only was the album their most commercially successful thanks to the runaway hits "More Human than Human" and "Super-Charger Heaven," it was nominated for two Grammy Awards including Best Engineered Album and Best Metal Performance for "More Human than Human."

Whalen Nash is a folk singer-songwriter who divides his time between Austin, Texas and Baltimore, Maryland. He performs at Open Mics in both of those cities and many others on the road between them.

Pearl Jam has just launched "Lightning Bolt," it's first studio album since 2009's "Backspacer," Producer Brendan O'Brien who has worked with PJ for 20 years, notes that frontman Eddie Vedder "sings his ass off on this record," particularly on "Sirens," which he calls "one of the best songs they've ever written." He adds that "Sirens" and another album track, "Infallible," are both "very melodic and beautiful songs." the recording of "Lightning Bolt" began with sessions in early 2012 after the blitz surrounding Cameron Crowe's 2011 "Pearl Jam Twenty" documentary and was finished during sessions at Los Angeles' Henson Recording Studios earlier this year. "Especially when we were finishing up," O'Brien says, there was a sense of "unity, everybody pulling together, and there was a joy about what we were doing. The songs have a lot of drama they're good at that. But there wasn't a lot of drama from the [process], just a lot of everyone enjoying." "I think it's a great representation of their work right now," O'Brien says of "Lightning Bolt." "If you like Pearl Jam, you'll love this. And if you haven't listened to Pearl Jam in awhile, I think it's going to bring you in. That's the whole idea."

Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Blue Lines is the 1991 debut album by English trip hop group Massive Attack, released on their Wild Bunch label through Virgin Records. A highly-influential album, Blue Lines featured breakbeats, sampling, and rapping on a number of tracks, but the design of the album differed from traditional hip hop. Massive Attack approached the American-born hip hop movement from an underground British perspective and also incorporated live instruments into the mixes. It features the vocals of Shara Nelson and Horace Andy, along with the rapping of Tricky Kid. Blue Lines proved to be popular in the club scene, as well as on college radio stations. In a contemporary review of Blue Lines, Dele Fadele of NME hailed the album as "the sleekest, deadliest, most urbane, most confounding LP 1991 has yet seen", writing that Massive Attack "put current changes on the dancefloor in perspective and map out blueprints for what must surely come next" and that "after Blue Lines the boundaries separating soul, funk, reggae, house, classical, hip-hop and space-rock will be blurred forever."

Vinyl LP pressing. Meantime is the second studio album and major label debut by American alternative metal band, Helmet, released on June 23, 1992 through Interscope Records. The importance of this record cannot be overstated, as it was arguably one of the most influential and overlooked rock records of the '90s, according to All Music. Helmet formed in 1989. Founded by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton, Helmet has had numerous lineup changes, and Hamilton has been the only constant member. The band found mainstream success with Meantime, which debuted at #68 on the Billboard 200, with singles "Unsung" and "In the Meantime".
