John Mayer Heavier Things on 180g LP

John Mayer followed up his Grammy-winning 2001 debut Room for Squares and hit single "Your Body Is a Wonderland" with the Jack Joseph Puig-produced Heavier Things in 2003. Debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, Heavier Things is a more sophisticated record than its predecessor in every way with deeper songwriting and ambitious pop-jazz arrangements. The album legitimized Mayer's talent and set the tone for the rest of his career, yielding a trio of successful singles with "Bigger Than My Body," "Clarity" and "Daughters," the latter serving as the blossoming singer/songwriter's first No. 1 single as well as 2005 Grammy winner for Song of the Year.

Dinosaur Jr carved out a singular path through the latter half of the 1980s and first half of the 1990s, issuing a number of highly influential albums in the process. Hand It Over, their seventh record, appeared in the spring of 1997 following a lengthy absence, and would prove to be the band's final album-length offering for a decade.

Performed primarily by J Mascis, Hand It Over appeared at a time of declining international interest in American alternative rock, but nevertheless received widespread approval and appreciation amongst critics and reviewers. The album was accompanied, unusually, by an EP of non-album songs recorded for the Matt Dillon movie Grace Of My Heart and, later, a vinyl only "I'm Insane" 7" single, all of which are collected here alongside previously unreleased recordings made on stage in Stockholm and on TV in Australia.

Remastered and accompanied by in-depth sleevenotes from Mojo's Keith Cameron (based on recent and exclusive interviews with J Mascis), this deluxe edition colored vinyl 2LP-set provides a final view of a band about to disappear from the limelight but still as engaging and powerful as ever.

Tony Bennett's 1968 seasonal classic Snowfall: The Tony Bennett Christmas Album has been remixed and sonically enhanced for this 2021 pressing by producer/sound engineer (and Tony's son) Dae Bennett, winner of seven Grammy Awards. The new edition includes a restoration of the original album art by illustrator Bob Peak and a vinyl sleeve featuring original holiday paintings by Tony. Released in October 1968 on Columbia Records, the Platinum-certified collection was Tony's first holiday album. Originally produced by Jack Gold, Snowfall showcases ten swinging performances of perennial holiday classics as interpreted by the master pop vocalist, accompanied by a full orchestra conducted by Robert Farnon, the album's musical arranger. Tony and Farnon recorded the album in two historic sessions, laying down six performances at Columbia's 30th Street Studios in New York and four tracks at CTS Bayswater in London.

Easily one of the most important records ever made, John Coltrane's a Love Supreme was his pinnacle studio outing that at once compiled all of his innovations from his past, spoke of his current deep spirituality, and also gave a glimpse into the next two and a half years (sadly, those would be his last). Recorded at the end of 1964, Trane's classic quartet of Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, and Jimmy Garrison stepped into the studio and created one of the most thought-provoking, concise, and technically pleasing albums of their bountiful relationship (not to mention his best-selling to date). from the flowing (and classic) bass line at the intro to the last breathy notes, Trane is at the peak of his logical yet emotionally varied soloing while the rest of the group is remarkably in tune with Coltrane's spiritual vibe. Composed of four parts, each has a thematic progression leading to an understanding of spirituality through meditation.

The Beatles' chart-topping 1970 album Let It Be receives a range of beautifully presented Special Edition packages in October 2021! The new Special Edition follows the universally acclaimed remixed and expanded anniversary editions of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2017), The Beatles (aka The White Album) (2018), and Abbey Road (2019). All of the new Let It Be releases feature a new stereo mix of the album, as guided by the original "reproduced for disc" version by Phil Spector, sourced directly from the original session and rooftop performance eight-track tapes. Controversial due to its involvement of Spector, Let It Be marks a return to a drier, back-to-basics live-in-the-studio sound. Seldom, if ever, were the Beatles so raw and direct, as the folksy harmonies on "Two of Us" and straight-ahead charge of "I've Got a Feeling" demonstrate. And the orchestral and choir arrangements on the Spector-treated "The Long and Winding Road" simply soar.
