Let it Be
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00The Replacements Let It Be on LP
Twin/Tone Era LPs Are Available Again After Being Out of Print for Over 20 Years!
Along with Prince and Hüsker Dü, The Replacements put Minneapolis on the rock map in the 1980s. Among America's greatest alternative acts of all-time, the 'Mats rose from chaotic noise-makers to polished craftsmen, leaving at least three unqualified masterpieces in their wake. In a perfect world, Let It Be, Tim, and Pleased To Meet Me would have all gone platinum - but then again, endearing imperfection was always a hallmark of this band's music.
The 'Mats formed in the wake of the punk explosion of the late 1970s. Their anarchic stage shows had earned them considerable notoriety in local clubs. Indie label Twin/Tone took note and signed the quartet, and their first album, Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash was issued in 1981. That record and the Stink EP that followed the next year were both pretty much standard-issue hardcore thrash. These early efforts careen wildly between competing tendencies toward indelible genius and drunken abandon, yet are essential just the same. With 1983's Hootenanny, however, audiences began to really take notice of the songs beneath all the sound and fury; "Color Me Impressed" had exactly that effect on discerning rock listeners.
By 1984's Let It Be, The Replacements' exponential growth as musicians – and most particularly, Paul Westerberg's growth as a writer – was undeniable. Let It Be boasts the epic foursome of "I Will Dare," "Favorite Thing," "Unsatisfied," and "Answering Machine" alongside the Kiss cover ("Black Diamond") and a tribute to Ted Nugent ("Gary's Got a Boner"). The album topped critic's polls across the country and earned the group a place on the roster at Sire Records.

Tron: Legacy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Regular price $34.98 Save $-34.98Continuing to exploit their creative urges to their ends, multi-platinum electronic duo Daft Punk (Guy-Manuel de Homen-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) took on one of their most ambitious projects to date in 2008, when they agreed to score the modern remake of the hugely influential 1982 film, Tron. Daft Punk's reverence of the original film and the themes that define it (the evolving relationship between humans and technology, specifically) rendered them discontented working within the means of their own studio. "We knew from the start that there was no way we were going to do this film score with two synthesizers and a drum machine," stated Guy-Manuel. Enlisting a 100-piece orchestra, they emerged from the studio after two years with a work whose importance superseded the editing process of the actual film - the movie was cut to the score, atypically. Tron: Legacy peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was certified gold shortly thereafter. 180g vinyl 2LP-set housed in a gatefold jacket with glow-in-the-dark lettering.

Tapestry

In 1972, in a first for a female writer/artist, the zeitgeist-shifting Tapestry won all three of the key Grammy Awards – record, song and album of the year – as well as best female vocalist honors for Carole King. With more than 25 million units sold, Tapestry remained the best-selling album by a female artist for a quarter century. It was No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 15 consecutive weeks and remained on the Billboard charts for more than 300 weeks. Produced by Lou Adler, Tapestry's songs are woven into the fabric of pop culture. With iconic tracks like "(You Make Me Feel) Like A Natural Woman" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," this is the album that cemented King's reputation as the quintessential singer-songwriter, defining a new generation of music.
The 1971 effort included songs which were all written or co-written by Carole. Several of the songs on the album had already been hits for other artists such as Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and The Shirelles "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" both of which were co-written with Gerry Goffin. Also listed as a co-writer on "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is Jerry Wexler. Another song, "Smackwater Jack" was also co-written with Goffin and two songs, "It's Too Late" and "Where You Lead," were co-written by Carole and Toni Stern.
In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Carole King's iconic album, Tapestry, Sony Legacy is excited to be reissuing the album on gatefold vinyl LP!

Low
Regular price $27.00 Save $-27.00January 1977 saw the release of the first installment of what came to be known as David Bowie's Berlin trilogy. That album was the Bowie/Tony Visconti produced Low and it was followed later the same year by Heroes with the trilogy completed in 1979 by the arrival of Lodger. Most of the music across the three albums wasn't even recorded in Berlin, the unifying factor actually being Bowie, Visconti and Brian Eno.
Much has been written about the brilliance and braveness of the music on Low, and rightly so. It's probably hard to imagine with the ears of today how absolutely unique the record sounded back in 1977. Apart from the obvious slicing of the album into two distinct sides, Visconti gifted Low that distinctive drum sound, among other things. Though Low was a record purportedly informed by the likes of Kraftwerk and other German musicians of the time, it actually sounded far more organic and not at all mechanized. This was in no small measure due to the nucleus of the band Bowie had favored during this whole period (starting with Station To Station), of Carlos Alomar (guitar), Dennis Davis (drums) and George Murray (bass).
The album was a commercial success, peaking at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 11 on the US Billboard Pop Albums chart. "Sound and Vision" and "Be My Wife" were released as singles; the former reaching No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart. Low sounds as fresh today as it ever did...thirty nine minutes of untouchable genius. Prepare to be transported by its gloriously uplifting melancholia and majestic musical language from a time and place that has yet to arrive.

Dropout Boogie
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Eleventh Studio Effort Harkens Back to Stripped Down Blues-Rock Roots and features Collaborations with Billy F. Gibbons, Greg Cartwright and Angelo Petraglia!
After 10 albums, the last five of which have gone top 10 or better, six Grammy awards, and sold-out tours around the world, The Black Keys are back: The duo, called "one of the best rock 'n' roll bands on the planet" by Uncut, delivers its eleventh studio album, Dropout Boogie. Ushered in by lead single, "Wild Child," Dropout Boogie features collaborations with Billy F. Gibbons (ZZ Top), Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound), and Angelo Petraglia (Kings of Leon). As they have done their entire career, the duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney wrote all of the material in the studio, and the new album captures a number of first takes that hark back to the stripped-down blues rock of their early days making music together in Akron, Ohio, basements.
"That's always been the beauty of the thing Pat and I do. It's instant," Auerbach says. "We've never really had to work at it. Whenever we'd get together, we'd just make music, you know? We didn't know what we were going to do, but we'd just do it and it would sound cool. It's the natural chemistry Pat and I have. Being in a band this long is a testament to that. It was a real gift that we were given. I mean, the odds of being plopped down a block-and-a-half from each other in Akron, Ohio – it just seems crazy."
After hashing out initial ideas as a duo at Auerbach's Nashville-based Easy Eye Sound studio, Auerbach and Carney welcomed new collaborators Gibbons, Cartwright, and Petraglia to the Dropout Boogie sessions. Although The Black Keys previously co-wrote songs with frequent producer/collaborator Danger Mouse, this is the first time they have invited multiple new contributors to work simultaneously on one of their own albums. Both Cartwright and Petraglia can be heard on "Wild Child."
"Living in Nashville and making records here has opened both of our minds to that experience a little bit more," said Auerbach. "I knew Pat would love working with both of these guys, so we decided we'd give it a shot. It was the first time we'd ever really done that. It was fun as hell. We just sat around a table with acoustic guitars and worked out a song ahead of time." "The cool thing with Greg is that he wants to approach stuff with a story in mind – there's a plot, almost," added Carney.
The Black Keys had previously jammed with ZZ Top guitar legend Billy F. Gibbons more than a decade ago in Los Angeles, while ZZ Top was working on an album with producer Rick Rubin. "We never even really wrote one song – we just had some ideas we put down," Carney said. "We really just wanted to hang out with him. We stayed in touch, and Dan invited him to the studio once we started working on this album."

From 2 To 3
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00From 2 To 3 is the new album from Peach Pit. This new album draws inspiration from 60s-70s rock and folk music, with the band citing Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Eagles, Glen Campbell, and George Harrison as their biggest influences.
If friendship had a sound, it would be Peach Pit. The wistful grooves, glassy guitars, and sun-kissed melodies feel like they could only be made by musicians who have spent close to a lifetime (or at least half of their lives) together. The Vancouver quartet—Neil Smith [vocals, guitar], Chris Vanderkooy [guitar], Peter Wilton [bass], and Mikey Pascuzzi [drums]—trace their union back to high school.
Peach Pit gained traction with their 2017 full-length debut album, Being So Normal, and graced the bills of festivals such as Shaky Knees Festival, Bonnaroo, Firefly Festival and many more. In 2020 Peach Pit revealed You and Your Friends, which DIY Mag hailed as “12 tracks of infectious indie-pop gems” while Atwood Magazine described the band as being “at the cutting edge of the alternative music scene.” And now Peach Pit carry this momentum into 2022, and kick off the next chapter of the band and their friendship with From 2 To 3.

Document
Regular price $32.99 Save $-32.99The R.E.M. of 1987's Document was a sinewy, muscular rock beast, primed and ready to dominate the airwaves. Peter Buck's distinctive jangle and chime was still apparent on "Disturbance At The Heron House" and "Welcome To The Occupation," but, for the most part, his guitar playing took on a sharp, steely quality. Accordingly, he turned in some of his most memorable recorded performances: launching "Finest Worksong" with urgent, metallic riffs; embroidering the swampy funk of "Lightnin' Hopkins" with Andy Gill-esque tension and atonality; and punctuating the band's supercharged cover of Wire's "Strange" with a neat, Nuggets-style psych-pop solo. Michael Stipe also summoned up a clutch of startling performances here: bending and twisting his voice like an old time preacher around "Lightnin' Hopkins" and rattling off a rapid-fire alternate history of the 20th Century on the exhilarating "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." Document's savage break-out single "The One I Love" provided R.E.M. with their first major US hit single when it peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard singles chart.

When I Get Home (Clear)
Regular price $29.00 Save $-29.00When I Get Home represents the next phase in Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Solange's evolution as an artist following the release of her critically acclaimed 2016 album A Seat at the Table. Written, performed, and executive produced by Solange, When I Get Home is an exploration of origin. It asks the question how much of ourselves do we bring with us versus leave behind in our evolution. The artist returned to Third Ward Houston to answer this. The album includes contributions from Tyler, the Creator, Chassol, Playboi Carti, Standing on the Corner, Panda Bear, Devin the Dude, The-Dream, and more. It also features samples from Third Ward's own Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, poet Pat Parker, and Scarface.
"Solange's breakthrough 2016 album, A Seat at the Table, was a sweet-voiced, multilayered manifesto: the sound of one black woman finding her path forward and confronting the ways systemic racism and sexism affect personal struggles. Its successor, When I Get Home, is something different: a reverie, a meditation, a therapeutic retreat, a musicians' playground." - The New York Times
"Solange's growth as an artist has been one of music's most fascinating stories, and, like A Seat at the Table, When I Get Home serves as a thrilling reminder that this is just the beginning of the futures she still has yet to unpack. If she can make a party-friendly album so meaningful, we've barely even witnessed the tip of her vision." - Rolling Stone
"When I Get Home reminds us that she's a frontrunner of R&B in her own right. With soothing production, enveloped with numbing vocals, she leaves you in a state of utopia. This surprise album of 2019 was something we didn't know we needed." - NME

Imploding the Mirage
Regular price $29.98 Save $-29.98Sixth Studio Effort Balances Manchester and Bruce Springsteen Influences with An Array of Guest Collaborators including Lindsey Buckingham, k.d. lang, Weyes Blood, Adam Granduciel, Blake Mills & Lucius!
Imploding the Mirage is The Killers highly anticipated sixth studio album. Following-up 2017's Wonderful, Wonderful, the new LP was produced by the band in conjunction with Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado of Foxygen and recorded in Los Angeles, CA and Park City, UT. It's the first album of their career to be created outside of their hometown of Las Vegas, NV. The Killers describe Imploding The Mirage as "the light after the dark; the overcoming of sadness and moving into celebration. It's a record about eternal love, perseverance through hard times, and the strength gained from friendships and familial bonds whilst weathering a storm."
In an interview with Q magazine, frontman Brandon Flowers said that the sound of the album, "Somehow captures Manchester and Bruce Springsteen. I think that's when we're at our best, when we're able to take these different elements and make them work." Lead single, "Caution" features former Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham and finds Flowers singing "I'm throwing caution" over soaring synths and reverb-heavy drums. On the quirky, funky fellow track, "Fire in Bone" Flowers lists off things that feel ‘Fire in Bone': from feeling "empty," "wrung-out," "unseen" and "preyed upon," to feeling "big time" and "major league." It hones in on the need to appreciate those that are there to pick up the pieces, which seems particularly crucial in these times.
Imploding The Mirage also features a brilliant array of collaborators, another first for the band who have typically kept guest spots on their albums to a minimum.
