Eminem Curtain Call: The Hits on 2x Vinyl LP! 

Eminem's four studio albums shattered so many sales records that you might think just about every man, woman and gerbil on the planet already owns a bulk of the songs that make up this greatest hits collection. But Curtain Call presents the perfect opportunity to have another look at the life of Marshall Mathers. Starting out in the vein of the Beastie Boys and Slick Rick, he grafted filthy verses over bubbly nursery rhyme melodies and primitive Casio beats to come up with comical singles like 'My Name Is' and 'Real Slim Shady.' Then angst and reflection set in, resulting in rare moments of vulnerability ('Lose Yourself') and a richer musical experience ('Stan'). Ty Segall meets a new non-rock challenge head-on; soundtrack music for the documentary film Whirlybird. A variety of synth sounds, electric keyboards, drums, percussion and saxophone (and yeah, a few guitars) form a shifting impressionist counterpart, instrumental music that dialogues with and serves to frame the film’s compulsive themes and images.

Beach Bunny announce their new EP Blame Game out January 15, 2021 via Mom+Pop Music. The new EP follows the band’s 2020 Billboard Top 10 debut album Honeymoon, which received 4 STARS from Rolling Stone - and a print profile - a multi-page critic’s essay from The New Yorker and features with The Cut, i-D, Paper, Nylon and many more. Where Honeymoon centered on the highs and lows of new love, Blame Game takes aim at toxic masculinity, sexism and the emotional labor of unreliable relationships. Blame Game was written in quarantine and recorded in Chicago over a week in August. The four new original songs are produced by Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Joyce Manor, Modern Baseball, Remo Drive).

Quasimoto The Further Adventures Of Lord Quas on 2LP

Madlib resurrected his sticky-green obsessed, helium-huffing alter-ego, Quasimoto in 2005 for the release of The Further Adventures of Lord Quas. While Madlib has always been one of the most experimentally savvy beatmakers in the underground, his creation of the electronically altered narrator Quasimoto, has become one of his biggest selling points for alternatively minded fans. The second full-length under the moniker plays something like a smoked-out comedy/crime Blaxploitation flick, with Madlib and Quas in a more chaotic state then on The Unseen. Further Adventures thrills some, confuses and frustrates others, and in the end, cemented Madlib's reputation as one of the most creative and fearlessly skewed creators in hip-hop. The album includes 26 tracks, with only two guest shots: one from Doom (for the return of Madvillain) and another from Medaphoar.

THE MISFITS/COLLECTION 2 (LP)

Along with Legacy of Brutality and The Misfits, here's another pretty damn indispensable non-LP collection of these late-'70s/early-'80s punk legends from New Jersey, America's answer to the early Damned with a better singer and more consistent songwriting. As much as the belated Walk Among Us was a great album, it was always their string of earlier stunning 7' singles that everyone wanted to hear. Here are those red-hot tracks from those singles, with the exception of what already appeared on the two earlier collections. Finally, here's the other half of the classic four-song Bullet EP, of which the opening 'We Are 138' still sounds as fundamentally whacked and nasty as ever. Best of all is the British Beware mini-LP rarity 'Last Caress' (yeah, the one that Metallica covered, only with Glenn Danzig singing it 75 times better and 75 times as evil, and the Misfits are much more scratchy and raunchy), plus the band's finest (guitarist) Bobby Steele-era B-side, 'Children in Heat,' from the Night of the Living Dead 7'. Plus, from the later Doyle era, a flip from 'London Dungeon,' both sides of the 'Halloween' single (of which the demonic B-side 'Halloween II' still sends horror movie chills up the spine), more vastly superior original recordings of Walk Among Us material, a few more unreleased cuts (here, the guitar update on the first single 'Cough/Cool' is a massive vault find, more truly frightening moments, and 'Return of the Fly' is bad-tempered cool), a couple of passable tracks from their final thrash days (not great but better than remembered from their disappointing Earth A.D. swan song), and it's over.

For Mike Campbell, External Combustion – the second album by his first band as a leader, The Dirty Knobs – is proof that lightning can strike twice. The follow-up to their 2020 debut Wreckless Abandon beats a new set of odds and jumps ahead in vision and drive, proving the first record was no one-shot deal. Campbell experienced all of the above and more with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – riding shotgun with his friend and captain as lead guitarist, co-producer, and, at times, co-writer – when he met guitarist Jason Sinay at a session in Los Angeles in 2000. Once Lance Morrison joined in on bass and Matt Laug on drums, that turned into The Dirty Knobs, named after a faulty amp dial.

In 1990, Bikini Kill formed in Olympia, WA to challenge the male-dominated indie rock world with their confrontational declaration of girls up front while guys can go do their thing in the corner. First as a zine, second as a band, third as a legacy, it wasnʼt long before Bikini Kill earned their place as one of the most controversial bands of all time. The group is credited with instigating the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 90's via their political lyrics and confrontational live show, igniting generations of female-fronted bands along the way. Reject All American is Bikini Kill's final studio album, originally released in 1996 on Kill Rock Stars.

From its humble beginnings, 2001's Brushfire Fairytales launched the meteoric career of the modern master of soft acoustic folk and surf rock, Jack Johnson. Cut to nearly 20 years later and the singer/songwriter's auspicious debut has stood the test of time selling over 2.5 million copies to date and continues to be one of the best sellers in his catalog. An ear for the irresistible – whether in the vocal delivery or the construction of a pop hook – certainly accounts for its success.

It starts with "Inaudible Melodies," a reference to the singer's laid-back, not to say reticent persona in the early days, and includes some lovely gems like "Flake," with Ben Harper on pedal steel. Only a minor hit, as a single, "Flake" still became a signature tune and live staple. The equally impressive "Drink the Water" is a face up to your fears type song. Superstar rapper Drake's latest full-length album, Scorpion has already smashed innumerable industry records, blowing just about every streaming record out of the water while making the artist the first to surpass 50 billion streams across all global streaming platforms along the way. A double album - divided between a hip-hop side and R&B side - Scorpion topped the Billboard Top 200 and its hit single "In My Feelings" dominated the Billboard Hot 100.

The sprawling 25-track affair features unreleased Michael Jackson vocals on the track "Don't Matter To Me," a song which appears to be built around previously unreleased music: Paul Anka is listed as a co-writer on the track. Scorpion also included appearances from Static Major, TY Dollah $ign and Jay Z. On "That's How You Feel," Drake samples Nicki Minaj's song "Boss Ass Bitch" and Future appears on "Blue Tint." No I.D., DJ Premier, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Tay Keith, Boi-1da, and Murda Beatz are among the producers credited on the album.
