Document
Regular price $32.99 Save $-32.99The R.E.M. of 1987's Document was a sinewy, muscular rock beast, primed and ready to dominate the airwaves. Peter Buck's distinctive jangle and chime was still apparent on "Disturbance At The Heron House" and "Welcome To The Occupation," but, for the most part, his guitar playing took on a sharp, steely quality. Accordingly, he turned in some of his most memorable recorded performances: launching "Finest Worksong" with urgent, metallic riffs; embroidering the swampy funk of "Lightnin' Hopkins" with Andy Gill-esque tension and atonality; and punctuating the band's supercharged cover of Wire's "Strange" with a neat, Nuggets-style psych-pop solo. Michael Stipe also summoned up a clutch of startling performances here: bending and twisting his voice like an old time preacher around "Lightnin' Hopkins" and rattling off a rapid-fire alternate history of the 20th Century on the exhilarating "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." Document's savage break-out single "The One I Love" provided R.E.M. with their first major US hit single when it peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard singles chart.

Rattle and Hum
Regular price $32.99 Save $-32.99Rattle and Hum was the album that saw U2 build a bridge from the studio to the silver screen, with some superstar collaborations along the way. The incredible global success of The Joshua Tree was an undeniable staging post in a story that was already more than a decade old. But U2 have never been a band simply to press repeat. Now they saw the opportunity to create something different again, a record of what they had just achieved and a signpost to where they were heading next. Hence the typically innovative combination of a full-scale film to commemorate the epic tour for The Joshua Tree, and a companion double album that contained live elements, but also stood tall as their sixth studio release. All of this little more than 18 months after the album that had rewritten industry records and taken the band to the very top of their profession.
The Rattle and Hum movie was filmed in Denver, CO at the McNichols Sports Arena in November 1987. It captured the overwhelming ebullience of a U2 concert, from the opening cover of the Beatles' White Album romp "Helter Skelter" to valedictory closer "Pride (In The Name Of Love)." But, far from taking the easy option of a simultaneous album equivalent to the film, by the spring of 1988 U2 were at work on a very different type of companion release. Even as they oversaw post-production of the Phil Joanou-directed rock documentary, the band started to lay down new material, both in L.A. and Sun Studios in Memphis, for what would become Rattle and Hum, the album. At the end of September, U2 announced their return with one of the most exhilarating singles of their career. "Desire" was a breathless, vein-bursting nod to the punk-before-there-was-punk sound of the Stooges, itself distilled from a nucleus of the Bo Diddley beat. After a UK debut at No. 3, which equalled their best-ever peak with "Pride" four years before, "Desire" climbed to the top to give U2 their first British No. 1 single. It went on to land a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal.
Hard on its heels, the album rattled and hummed into view in October. Time magazine called it "the best live rock album ever made," but it was even more than that. Produced by Jimmy Iovine, it incorporated recordings from the Denver shows, others from San Francisco, New York and Tempe, Arizona, as well as new studio material and some truly striking collaborations. Rattle and Hum debuted on the British chart at No. 1 and by November was sitting atop the American charts as well. Its four hit singles - "Desire," "Angel of Harlem," "When Love Comes to Town" and "All I Want Is You" - kept U2 in singles top tens all over the world for months.

From 2 To 3
Regular price $24.98 Save $-24.98From 2 To 3 is the new album from Peach Pit. This new album draws inspiration from 60s-70s rock and folk music, with the band citing Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Eagles, Glen Campbell, and George Harrison as their biggest influences.
If friendship had a sound, it would be Peach Pit. The wistful grooves, glassy guitars, and sun-kissed melodies feel like they could only be made by musicians who have spent close to a lifetime (or at least half of their lives) together. The Vancouver quartet—Neil Smith [vocals, guitar], Chris Vanderkooy [guitar], Peter Wilton [bass], and Mikey Pascuzzi [drums]—trace their union back to high school.
Peach Pit gained traction with their 2017 full-length debut album, Being So Normal, and graced the bills of festivals such as Shaky Knees Festival, Bonnaroo, Firefly Festival and many more. In 2020 Peach Pit revealed You and Your Friends, which DIY Mag hailed as “12 tracks of infectious indie-pop gems” while Atwood Magazine described the band as being “at the cutting edge of the alternative music scene.” And now Peach Pit carry this momentum into 2022, and kick off the next chapter of the band and their friendship with From 2 To 3.

Damn the Torpedoes
Regular price $32.99 Save $-32.99Damn The Torpedoes, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' third album (and first on Backstreet/MCA,) proved to be the breakthrough for the singer-songwriter-guitarist and his band (guitarist Mike Campbell, keyboardist Benmont Tench, bassist Ron Blair and drummer Stan Lynch). The album was released in October 1979, after a highly publicized lawsuit in which Petty made a groundbreaking stand for artist rights, refusing to be sold by one record company to another without his consent.
Damn The Torpedoes became the group's first Top 10, remaining at No. 2 for seven weeks (only Pink Floyd's The Wall kept it from the top). It sold over 5-million copies, and had 3 top 40 hits and 4 top 5 rock-radio hits. The album was an immediate critical success, with Rolling Stone declaring Damn The Torpedoes "the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album we have all been waiting for."
Produced by Petty and Jimmy Iovine, the album reached double platinum quickly and catapulted the band to arena performances where they played such classic cuts as the infectious Top 10 hit "Don't Do Me Like That," blistering rockers "Refugee" and "Here Comes My Girl," and the exhilarating "Even The Losers." Bursting with full speed ahead American rock ‘n' roll, the album brought together rock, folk, country and blues in what has become Petty and the Heartbreakers' signature style.
The release garnered Petty his first Rolling Stone Magazine cover in February 1980. In 2003, nearly 25 years after its release, Rolling Stone honored Damn The Torpedoes on its list of "the greatest albums ever made," and in 2002 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, during their first year of eligibility. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are one of the very few artists to score a top five record on the Billboard charts in five consecutive decades.

Terrapin Station (black vinyl)
Regular price $27.98 Save $-27.98GRATEFUL DEAD / TERRAPIN STATION / Newly Mastered by GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer David Glasser. Produced for release by David Lemieux. The first Arista Grateful Dead album, and the first studio album featuring an outside producer their debut album a decade earlier, Terrapin Station is one of the deepest, densest, most ambitious album in the entire Dead catalog. Arista president Clive Davis vowed to get the Dead a hit record (that would take another 10 years), so he paired the Dead with Fleetwood Mac producer Keith Olson, and they created an album unlike anything they'd ever made before, filled with strings, horns, a choir, and countless other new sounds in the Dead world. And the songs... what a collection! Estimated Prophet, Samson and Delilah, Passenger, Dancing In The Street, and Donna Jean Godchaux's first lead vocal on a Dead album, Sunrise, make up Side 1. And Side 2 is the entire Terrapin Station suite, with many parts and twists and turns. Truly one of the most exciting sequences of music ever committed to vinyl by The Grateful Dead.

When I Get Home (Clear)
Regular price $26.98 Save $-26.98When I Get Home represents the next phase in Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Solange's evolution as an artist following the release of her critically acclaimed 2016 album A Seat at the Table. Written, performed, and executive produced by Solange, When I Get Home is an exploration of origin. It asks the question how much of ourselves do we bring with us versus leave behind in our evolution. The artist returned to Third Ward Houston to answer this. The album includes contributions from Tyler, the Creator, Chassol, Playboi Carti, Standing on the Corner, Panda Bear, Devin the Dude, The-Dream, and more. It also features samples from Third Ward's own Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, poet Pat Parker, and Scarface.
"Solange's breakthrough 2016 album, A Seat at the Table, was a sweet-voiced, multilayered manifesto: the sound of one black woman finding her path forward and confronting the ways systemic racism and sexism affect personal struggles. Its successor, When I Get Home, is something different: a reverie, a meditation, a therapeutic retreat, a musicians' playground." - The New York Times
"Solange's growth as an artist has been one of music's most fascinating stories, and, like A Seat at the Table, When I Get Home serves as a thrilling reminder that this is just the beginning of the futures she still has yet to unpack. If she can make a party-friendly album so meaningful, we've barely even witnessed the tip of her vision." - Rolling Stone
"When I Get Home reminds us that she's a frontrunner of R&B in her own right. With soothing production, enveloped with numbing vocals, she leaves you in a state of utopia. This surprise album of 2019 was something we didn't know we needed." - NME
