Mj Lenderman is a songwriter born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. The anatomy of an MJ record might go something like this: warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; crackin' a cold one with some buds; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy. Songs snake their way from a lo-fi home recording to something glossier made with longtime friends at Asheville's Drop of Sun studios, but the recording setting doesn't seem to matter much - at it's core, a Lenderman song rings true.

Manning Fireworks is a remarkable development in Mj Lenderman's story as an incredibly incisive singer-songwriter, whose propensity for humor always points to some uneasy, disorienting darkness. The punchlines are still here, as are the rusted-wire guitar solos that have made Lenderman a favorite for indie rock fans looking for an emerging guitar hero. There's a new sincerity, too, as Lenderman let's listeners clearly see the world through his warped lens.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Hard Promises on 180g LP

It's been 40 years since Tom Petty and his extraordinary band, The Heartbreakers, unleashed their eponymous debut in 1976. In the subsequent decades, Petty - both as a solo artist and as leader of the band - has sold over 80 million records worldwide, earned 18 Grammy nods and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Petty's musical integrity and craft, not to mention his seemingly effortless flair for rapturous hooks, have remained constant despite ever-shifting musical trends, and his multi-generational fan base continues to swell. 1981's Hard Promises served as Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers' fourth full-length effort overall and second on Backstreet/MCA. Music Industry, 1993: everyone is looking to sign the "next" Nirvana. Atlantic Records found exactly the band they were looking for in the Melvins. Birthed in the Pacific Northwest gloom of Aberdeen that would spawn grunge music and culture, the Melvins were writing songs that were clearly inspired by the right stuff and written for the right people...and they had Nirvana's unequivocal stamp of approval, which meant everything in the early 90's.

For the next four years after their signing, the Melvins would deliver three stellar, influential albums that were criminally only moderately appreciated at the time. In the past 23 years, they've continued onwards with Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, and a revolving cast of bassists at the helm, cementing themselves as one of the most important American rock bands of all time.

Houdini, Stoner Witch, and Stag have all been out of print on vinyl for over two decades and original copies can command into the three figures in back alley craps games. Third Man Records is proud to reintroduce these titles to the hungry vinyl-buying public, all remastered from original analog tapes, pressed on 180-gram vinyl and given the deluxe, gatefold jacket treatment.

The Melvins' fifth album Houdini was a conscious attempt by the band to make a record that wouldn't alienate their fans but that the band members themselves would also enjoy. Nirvana From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah on 2LP

Originally issued in 1996, From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah features 16 live Nirvana songs recorded between 1989 and 1994, from Seattle, WA to Springfield, MA, from London to Amsterdam, in venues ranging from small American clubs to the Reading Festival in England. "It's an aggressive record," said Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, who along with drummer Dave Grohl listened to more than a hundred hours of tapes to select the tracks. "Hopefully people who didn't get to see us live will get a flavor of what the band was all about. Most of the songs we chose were ones we played every night."

If the previous live Nirvana live album, MTV Unplugged in New York (1994) documented the acoustic side of the band - "Nirvana lite," as Novoselic puts it - then From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah is "Nirvana raw." Two tracks on the album pre-date the band's breakthrough album Nevermind as "Polly" and "Breed" were both recorded in London in December 1989. The majority, however, come from the band's world tour in the winter of 1991 including "Drain You," "Aneurysm," and "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Sources for the tracks range from soundboard reference cassettes to 24-track recordings. The album was mixed by Andy Wallace.
