John Prine (Live)
Regular price $33.00 Save $-33.00Limited colored vinyl LP pressing. Among the English language's premier phrase-turners with music relevant to any age, the late great John Prine delivered songs that are both literate and personal. The skilled and compassionate storyteller enjoyed widespread critical acclaim in the wake of his groundbreaking eponymous debut and continued to write and perform songs that became central to our American musical heritage for nearly five decades. Dedicated to his mother Verna Prine, the intimate and playful John Prine Live was largely recorded during a three-day stint at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California and released in 1988 on the singer/songwriter's own label Oh Boy Records. As he explained to David Fricke in 1993: "We didn't have another artist to put out. The idea was to have me and my guitar, telling stories and doing songs - and buying me some time until I could get into the studio again."

The Secret Of Us (Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics, Colored Vinyl, Yellow)
Regular price $38.00 Save $-38.00Gracie Abrams returns with her sophomore album, "The Secret of Us" released via Interscope Records. This is Gracie's most expansive body of work both sonically and narratively. Coming off the heels of her hugely successful debut "Good Riddance" Gracie shows us how much she has accomplished in one short year. Gracie's growth as a songwriter and vocalist is showcased in her most extroverted album yet, as she continues to work with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner. A portion of these songs were also written with Gracie's best friend, Audrey Hobert. This album was written with the urgency with which you run home to detail every moment of a night to your friend, with her live experiences over the past year having deeply shaped the identity of this album.

Regular price $36.00 Save $-36.00Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You is a sprawling double-LP exploring the deepest elements and possibilities of Big Thief. To truly dig into all that the music of Adrianne Lenker, Max Oleartchik, Buck Meek, and James Krivchenia desired in 2020, the band decided to write and record a rambling account of growth as individuals, musicians, and chosen family over 4 distinct recording sessions. In Upstate New York, Topanga Canyon, The Rocky Mountains, and Tucson, AZ, Big Thief spent 5 months in creation and came out with 45 completed songs. The most resonant of this material was edited down into the 20 tracks that make up DNWMIBIY, a fluid and adventurous listen. The album was produced by drummer James Krivchenia who initially pitched the recording concept for DNWMIBIY back in late 2019 with the goal of encapsulating the many different aspects of Adrianne's songwriting and the band onto a single record.
All four of these sessions, in their varied states of fidelity, style, and mood, when viewed together as one album seem to stand for a more honest, zoomed-out picture of lived experience than would be possible on a traditional, 12 song record. This was exactly what the band hoped would be the outcome of this kind of massive experiment. When Max's mom asked on a phone call what it feels like to be back together with the band playing music for the first time in a year, he described to the best of abilities: "Well it's like, we're a band, we talk, we have different dynamics, we do the breaths, and then we go on stage and suddenly it feels like we are now on a dragon. And we can't really talk because we have to steer this dragon."
The attempt to capture something deeper, wider, and full of mystery, points to the inherent spirit of Big Thief. Traces of this open-hearted, non-dogmatic faith can be felt through previous albums, but here on Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You lives the strongest testament to its existence.

Seventeen Seconds
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Seventeen Seconds is the second studio album by English rock band The Cure, recorded at Morgan Studio and released on 22 April 1980. Seventeen Seconds established the group's gloomy sound that would continue until 1982's Pornography. It is the only Cure album to feature keyboardist Matthieu Hartley. Inspiration was very high for the album, as Robert Smith wrote the lyrics and music for most of the record on just two occasions. Most of the music was composed by Smith in his parents' home, on a Hammond organ with a built-in tape recorder. Interviewed in 2004, producer Mike Hedges does not recall any demo tracks, with the band generally playing the track in the studio before laying down a backing track to which overdubs were added. Two members of The Magazine Spies, bass guitarist Simon Gallup and keyboardist Matthieu Hartley, were added to the band's lineup. Gallup replaced Michael Dempsey, which relieved Smith as he felt Dempsey's basslines were too ornate and that they weren't getting on socially. Hartley's synth work added a new dimension to the band's newly ethereal sound, although Smith and he clashed over complexity (Hartley enjoyed complex chords; Smith wanted single notes).

Welcome Interstate Managers (Red)
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00Double red colored vinyl LP pressing housed inside a gatefold jacket with two printed inner sleeves featuring lyrics. Includes bonus track. It's the most popular album by one of the greatest power pop bands of all time... and it's never seen a widespread vinyl release. Welcome Interstate Managers was hailed a classic from the day it came out in 2003, and featured Fountains of Wayne's biggest hit with "Stacy's Mom." The song craft and lyrical wit of Chris Collingwood and the late, great Adam Schlesinger have never been sharper; there's not a bad song on this record and lot of them (e.g. "Bright Future in Sales;" "Hackensack") rise to the same lofty perch as "Stacy's Mom.". Also included as a bonus track: the non-LP b-side to the 'Stacy's Mom' single, 'Elevator Up!' One of the 21st century's greatest rock albums.
Straight Outta Compton [Explicit Content]
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Vinyl LP pressing. Digitally remastered edition of this 1988 Hip Hop classic. Although not the creators of Gangsta Rap, N.W.A was it's most prolific pioneer, putting it on the map of American music without the help of radio or MTV. The group was formed in Compton, California in 1986 by Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube. Shortly after composing "Boys N the Hood," they added DJ Yella, the D.O.C. and Arabian Prince to the lineup. N.W.A.'s first album, N.W.A And the Posse, was released in 1987. The following year, the group added the edgy vocals of MC Ren. All of the pieces were in place to deliver the now classic Straight Outta Compton in '88.
Meat is Murder [Import]

"The Headmaster Ritual" and "I Want the One I Can't Have" are fine elaborations on the formula the band introduced on their debut, while "Rusholme Ruffians" is an infectious take on rockabilly. There was no other British group making music quite like this in 1985.

Check Your Head
Regular price $45.00 Save $-45.00Some albums define an era, a place, a certain time in one's life. The Beastie Boys Check Your Head practically defined the summer of 1992 for those who were wary of the mainstreaming of rap and the insurgency of grunge. It was here that MCA, Adrock and Mike D. created a musical montage that defied genre, one with the swagger of punk and the rootsy earthiness of early-'70s soul-jazz, all layered with a hip-hop consciousness. Lo-fi, garagy, guitar-riff-loaded tracks like "Pass Da Mic" and "Gratitude" made it clear that the Beasties could be taken as serious musical forces, even innovators. Yet they still brilliantly tempered the proceedings with romps like "Professor Booty" and "Funky Boss." One of the best albums of the '90's, Check Your Head was a turning point for the band and the genesis of a new musical hybrid.

Dangerous Woman
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00Every Ariana Grande album cover features a photo of the singer, each one capturing the intention behind the release. On Dangerous Woman, she projects youthful playfulness with her signature ponytail, though her black-latex bunny mask hints at something more provocative beneath the bubble-gum surface. It was clear that Grande's third studio album would showcase the singer's more sensual side while exploiting her knack for interpreting any style or sound with transformative results.
Released in May 2016, Dangerous Woman picked up from where My Everything had left off, delivering more floor-filling dance hits and moving further away from her ballad-heavy beginnings. Through its title alone, Dangerous Woman vowed to showcase a new maturity in Grande's artistry. Sonically, the album furthered that mission, enhancing the retro R&B elements of her first two albums, Yours Truly and My Everything, while exploring more electro-pop soundscapes that would shape her future career. Much of Dangerous Woman sees Grande playing with tempos, genres and time shifts. "I Don't Care" finds her embracing orchestral R&B to forget a lost love, "Sometimes" ventures into more acoustic pop (a rarity for Grande), and "Bad Decision," "Touch It," "Knew Better/Forever Boy" and "Thinking Bout You" all rely on Grande's powerful pipes and EDM synth-pop production.
With her third album, Ariana Grande found success in evolving the pop formula she'd already established, while venturing into uncharted, edgier territory. The gamble paid off, with Dangerous Woman debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts and notching her first No.1 album in the UK. It was clear that the ascending pop queen was just getting started.
