Originally formed as a somewhat antagonistic answer to grunge, CAKE's democratic processes, defiant self-reliance, and lucid yet ever-inventive music has made them a nation-state unto themselves, with no obvious peers, belonging to no school. Jar of Flies is the second studio EP by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on January 25, 1994, through Columbia Records. It is the first EP in music history to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 Chart with the first week sales exceeding 141, 000 copies in the United States. The EP was well received by critics and has since been certified triple-platinum by the RIAA and has gone on to sell 4 million copies worldwide, making Jar of Flies one of the band's most successful releases.

Vinyl LP pressing. Songs You Know by Heart: Jimmy Buffett's Greatest Hit(s) is the 18th album and the first greatest hits compilation by singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was released in January 1, 1985. The parenthetical "s" in the subtitle alludes to the status at the time of "Margaritaville" as Buffett's single large chart hit. Although the album charted at 100 on the Billboard 200, it is currently certified 7x Platinum by the RIAA, making it Buffett's most commercially successful. Despite it's 1985 release date, the album only includes songs from 1973 to 1979. Aside of 1976's Havaña Daydreamin', this compilation includes at least one song from every album released between 1973 and 1979.

Ushering in a new post-grunge metal genre with their first two Ross Robinson helmed alt-metal landmarks Korn (1994) and Life Is Peachy (1996), Korn switched gears and co-produced their massive third album, Follow The Leader with the team of Steve Thompson and Toby Wright. The 5x-platinum affair peaked at No. 1 on four charts including the Billboard 200 and gave Korn their first entries on the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts with "Got The Life" and "Freak On A Leash." The latter also earned the band their first Grammy Award. Further album standouts include "B.B.K.," "Children of the Korn" and "All in the Family."

"We were listening to tons of rap, but we also liked bands like Pantera and Sepultura and as we evolved, I think we learned to mix those two styles better," notes Jonathan Davis. "Plus, I grew up on new wave and I always wanted to make music that had lots of melody. We got that into the first two records, but Follow the Leader was where we were able to really emphasize the hooks and people loved that shit." In 1994, hip-hop was going through an at-times painful growth spurt. Since N.W.A.'s and Ice-T's ascent in the late '80s, the rap game was no longer owned by the East Coast. After the worldwide popularity of Dr. Dre's The Chronic in 1992, things were looking even worse for hip-hop's hometown. The East Coast / West Coast feud that would later indirectly claim the lives of Biggie and 2Pac was still in its infancy, but New York needed a shot in the arm. The hype behind young Queensbridge native Nasir "Nas" Jones had been in full swing months before his smash debut album Illmatic, thanks to Columbia Records' promo machine. From his earliest appearance on Main Source's "Live at the BBQ," to his own accomplished debut "Half Time" (as Nasty Nas, on the Zebrahead soundtrack in late 1992), it was clear that this kid was something special.

In fact, the pressure on him must have been overwhelming at times. April 19, 1994 couldn't have come soon enough. And as soon as the first lines of "N.Y. State of Mind" kick in, bolstered by perhaps DJ Premier's darkest beat of all time, the entire East Coast breathed a collective sigh of relief. God's Son had arrived. Backed by an absolute all-star cast of New York's top-shelf producers – Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Q-Tip and a youngster named L.E.S. – the album never lets up. Serious to a fault, and lyrically dense to an extent that has possibly never been matched, the 20-year old Nas stood on the shoulders of his predecessors and proudly proclaimed, "Don't fuck with the East...we are back."

Illmatic was actually a slow-burn, which might surprise fans that have come to its genius more recently. Despite an unheard-of "5 Mics" in The Source – despite an unwritten rule of never awarding classic status to debuts – it didn't go gold until early 1996, and didn't hit platinum status until late 2001. But when you dive deeper that shouldn't be a shock: like Black Moon and Wu-Tang's debuts, it was a dark, hard record, tailor-made for heads in New York. There were no dance beats, no crossover love songs. Just boom-bap and rhymes, skills and heart.

Twenty One Pilots landed at the top of the Billboard Charts with their triumphant sophomore studio album Blurryface. The 2015 release takes the band's explosive mix of hip-hop, indie rock and punk to the next level, with soaring pop melodies and eclectic sonic landscapes on hit singles like "Fairly Local," "Tear In My Heart," and "Stressed Out."

Lust For Life finds neo-crooner Lana Del Rey shedding the ennui-laced themes of her last two releases and facing the future. While not mired in nostalgia, the album continues the balancing act of viewing retro-references through the prism of modern day tribulations. Her signature languid delivery remains the same, but the album also has Del Rey trying out plenty of new ideas, from studio production to lyrical themes and collaborations. Lust for Life is certainly her most sonically diverse collection yet, implementing hip-hop based percussion and tapping into her folk and jazz roots, with tender piano ballads and some acoustic guitar numbers. The retro references and doo-wop melodies are still there, but the whole album is underpinned by a persistent mid-tempo beat and melancholic streak. Gracie Abrams - "This Is What It Feels Like" - Acclaimed singer/songwriter Gracie Abrams releases her new project, This Is What It Feels Like, bringing raw introspection to the most intimate of emotional experiences (self-betrayal, insecurity, failed attempts at connection). The Beatles' chart-topping 1970 album Let It Be receives a range of beautifully presented Special Edition packages in October 2021! The new Special Edition follows the universally acclaimed remixed and expanded anniversary editions of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2017), The Beatles (aka The White Album) (2018), and Abbey Road (2019). All of the new Let It Be releases feature a new stereo mix of the album, as guided by the original "reproduced for disc" version by Phil Spector, sourced directly from the original session and rooftop performance eight-track tapes. The new stereo mix is presented here on 180g vinyl LP.

While recorded in 1969, Let It Be remains the Beatles' final salvo due to its release in 1970 and the internal tensions that mark the album. Filled with a litany of underrated gems, it also hosts the universally recognized gospel-laden title track, on a par with the best material the Beatles ever recorded. Controversial due to its involvement of Spector, Let It Be marks a return to a drier, back-to-basics live-in-the-studio sound. Seldom, if ever, were the Beatles so raw and direct, as the folksy harmonies on "Two of Us" and straight-ahead charge of "I've Got a Feeling" demonstrate. And the orchestral and choir arrangements on the Spector-treated "The Long and Winding Road" simply soar.

The highest grossing film of 1985, Back to the Future launched one of the most successful franchises in Universal's history. The Ramones sounded like nothing else when their self-titled debut came roaring onto the scene in 1976. Even so, original drummer Tommy Ramone did do a pretty good job describing the band's primal sound when he penned the quartet's press bio that same year. "The Ramones all originate from Forest Hills and kids who grew up there either became musicians, degenerates or dentists. The Ramones are a little of each," he observed. "Their sound is not unlike a fast drill on a rear molar."

Named the "Greatest Punk Album Of All Time" by Rolling Stone, and certainly one of the most important and influential albums of all time, the 29-minute masterpiece helped launch the punk rock scenes in both America and Britain, and also went on to inspire countless other artists for generations to come. Bringing a bubblegum sensibility to the fast-and-hard mentality, their primal sound is considered a blueprint for all things resembling snotty, catchy, ear-bleeding punk rock.

Eclectic Multi-Grammy-Winning Effort Remastered on 180g Vinyl and Pressed at RTI for Audiophile Sound: Graceland Forever Changed the Relationship Between Pop and World Music

With Graceland, Paul Simon hit on the idea of combining his always perceptive songwriting with the little-heard mbaqanga music of South Africa, creating a fascinating hybrid that re-enchanted his old audience and earned him a new one. It is true that the South African angle (including its controversial aspect during the apartheid days) was a powerful marketing tool and that the catchy music succeeded in presenting listeners with that magical combination: something they'd never heard before that nevertheless sounded familiar.

As eclectic as any record Simon had made, it also delved into zydeco and conjunto-flavored rock & roll while marking a surprising new lyrical approach (presaged on some songs on Hearts and Bones); for the most part, Simon abandoned a linear, narrative approach to his words, instead drawing highly poetic ("Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes"), abstract ("The Boy in the Bubble"), and satiric ("I Know What I Know") portraits of modern life, often charged by striking images and turns of phrase torn from the headlines or overheard in contemporary speech.

An enormously successful record, Graceland became the standard against which subsequent musical experiments by major artists were measured and continues to provide rewards to its listeners and remains a pivotal listening experience for writers, artists and fans.

The universal appeal of the music of Graceland proved more powerful and enduring than the political hotbed attending its creation. In 1986, the album sold 14 million copies worldwide, and received universal praise from critics around the globe. Paul Simon and the members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed on Saturday Night Live and appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone.

By January of 1987, "You Can Call Me Al" was everywhere and Graceland won 'Album of the Year' at the Grammy Awards in 1987. Then, in an unprecedented carryover, the album garnered the Grammy for 'Song of the Year' with its title track in 1988. The album generated three hit singles and kept Simon and the Graceland tour on the road for five years.

This audiophile edition of Graceland has been remastered on 180g 12" vinyl and includes an art-quality collectible poster and a download card with the full album plus three bonus tracks.
