Breakthrough LP Restored by Primus Front Man Les Claypool: Pressed at QRP for True Audiophile Quality

In a restoration personally overseen by Les Claypool, Primus’ acclaimed release Sailing The Seas Of Cheese has been newly mixed in stereo for the first time since its 1991 debut.

Regarding the album’s new stereo mix, Claypool says, “Musically, it holds up incredibly well. Sonically, it holds up fairly well. There’s some old-style reverbs that are a little bit syrupy. With modern technology, we can fix some of that stuff. But we don’t want to mess with it too much, because it is what it is. We want to fatten it up a little bit.”

“The way that people listen to music now - as far as stereos and headphones - you can hear so much more, so the idea of remixing it is really going to suit the way people listen to music now,” adds guitarist Larry LaLonde.

Released in May of 1991, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese was Primus’ second studio album and major label debut, featuring the singles “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver,” “Tommy The Cat” (with Tom Waits voicing Tommy The Cat), and “Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers.” The music videos for “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver” and “Tommy The Cat” received heavy play on MTV and the album hit #2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, peaking at #116 on the Billboard 200.

Comprised of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larr LaLonde, and drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander, Primus toured extensively in 1991 and 1992, including dates with Public Enemy, Anthrax, Fishbone, Rush, and U2. Sailing The Seas Of Cheese was certified Gold within two years, climbing to Platinum in 2001.

Sailing The Seas Of Cheese is one of a handful of vital albums that ushered in the 1990s’ alternative revolution, answering slick ‘80s productions with a more irreverent approach to rock. “Mainstream rock was pretty cheesy,” says Claypool. “We were going to either sink or swim, hence Sailing The Seas Of Cheese.”

Retro-rockers Greta Van Fleet issue their 2019 Grammy Award-winning (Best Rock Album) collection, From The Fires for the first time on vinyl! Originally released in November 2017, the eight-track set featured four brand new Greta Van Fleet recordings as well as the four critically-acclaimed tracks from the band's breakout EP Black Smoke Rising, including No. 1 singles "Highway Tune" and follow-up "Safari Song."

The four new tracks were recorded at Rust Belt Studios in Detroit and produced by the same duo that helmed Black Smoke Rising, Al Sutton and Marlon Young. According to the band's vocalist Josh Kiszka, compiling the four Black Smoke Rising tracks with the four new recordings made for an ideal grouping. "All eight of these songs share a theme of basic humanity," said Kiszka. Also included are distinct covers of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and Fairport Convention's "Meet on the Ledge."

The cover art for From The Fires was conceived by Josh who said, "When we were all kids, our extended families and friends spent part of every summer together at a place called Yankee Springs. We were out in the middle of the woods, and every night, we'd sit around a campfire, play music and tell stories. I always loved that as it reminded me of ancient times when people would gather around the fires with the tribes' elders telling fables of wisdom and courage, passing down human history. That concept is where the cover art and title come from."

The 1970s punk movement gave birth to some important bands, but none were more important than The Clash. They pushed and broke musical boundaries, while fusing musical experimentation with a socio-political conscience and it's hard to think of a band before or since that have exerted such universal influence.

Their passionate, political agenda continues to inspire new fans and musicians alike. Indeed, the issues The Clash tackled are as relevant today as they were in the late '70s/early '80s. Dubbed "the only band that matters" in their heyday, the same could be said almost 40 years later.

Originally released as a double LP in the UK in 1979, London Calling was recorded with maverick producer Guy Stevens. Voted by Rolling Stone as best album of the 1980's, London Calling presented the group's rapidly evolving sound in the aftermath of punk, reflecting their love of reggae, soul, rockabilly, funk, rhythm & blues, as well as channeling their recent experiences touring America. The US release came a month later, on January 10th 1980.

Newly remastered by The Clash from the original tapes and pressed on audiophile quality 180g double vinyl. All artwork recreated from the original release including replicated fully printed inner sleeves.
